"You can't have ten years having a go at it!" The fact that Ed Woodward put us in this mess isn't highlighted enough. The most frightening thing is that if Woodward hadn't 'resigned in disgrace' over plans he helped concoct to ruin English football, he'd still be here. His job was always secure under this ownership despite years of abject failure. I don't trust that things will be any different under Murtough and Arnold with this ownership. They have no idea how to run a football club, nor do they care to learn so long as they can financially drain the club. Carragher is so dismissive of the problems higher up, probably because he wants them to continue, with the whole 'a good manager fixes most things' narrative. Not even José Mourinho could force the board into making his decisions. We're still structurally a mess, have substandard training facilities, scouting departments, are miles behind in sports science and have awful player welfare.

Nick J............Spot on! If I can relate this to a work scenario - I have worked in the 'business world' for nearly 30 years and in that time I have had TWO good managers! [which is a pretty sad and damning indictment on the level of 'leadership' we have!]
Arguably my best-ever manager was a no-nonsense - but extremely caring lady - who set unbelievably high standards. She worked the hardest and longest of all of us and had a clear 'vision' of what she wanted - and an equally precise plan on how to achieve it.
She inspired everyone on the team [including myself] to perform to our very best by the example she set. Despite this, some team members simply could not meet those standards - and there are 5 individual reasons for this. [4 of which can be managed].
However, the 5th dimension is 'attitude' and where you have people with a bad or negative attitude there is really only one solution. You get rid of them. [one bad 'team member' can reduce the efficiency and productivity of a team by an estimated 37%!]
What I see at Man Utd is not ONE player with a 'bad attitude' - but several! So it's no surprise we are performing so poorly as a team and that Ronaldo is trying his best to 'lead by example' and to drive the players around him. Problem is he is outnumbered and unlike him, they lack his 'winning mentality'.
As Simon Sinek succinctly put it - 'You can teach people skills, but you can't teach them attitude'. To repeat, the only real solution is to GET RID OF THEM!

Does Carragher really believe Klopp or Pep would be able to manage Man Utd much differently to what we've seen? Comes across like he's saying stuff to try and set Howson and McKola off. Klopp reportedly turned down 'Disneyland' because he knew Man Utd wouldn't let him manage the way he wants.
The head coach at Man Utd, whoever it is, doesn't have the level of control where he can give someone the Joe Hart treatment. Why pretend otherwise? Just to make a strawman argument about whether Ten Hag has the chops for the job?
At PSG no coach can go in and say: 'Sell Mbappe, sell Neymar, Sell Messi.' Its not how the club is run. Everyone knows this and accepts it. So why pretend that at Man Utd the head coach has unlimited control and, if they fail to bring people in or get people out, its cos they're weak?

The mess Woodward made will be felt for years I fear, and if anything the club got lucky the Super League mess happened, that coincided with a piss poor league finish and multiple contracts coming to an end. These things forced change starting with Woodward leaving, and a new manager coming in. My next hope is the Glazers will now get the bill of fixing the mess Woodward and they made and will balk at the figure and look to sell the club. This is not going to be an easy fix, the stadium needs major rework, the training facility needs upgrades and 90% of the squad needs replacing, that's not going to be cheap, Woodward is the only man in history to have spent close to a Billion and not only have nothing to show for it, but messed up so much, that it could cost another Billion or more to fix his mess.

I think under Ole he leaned on that schooling until it was time to adapt again, when Ole tried possession football, and Rangnick tried gegenpressing, he’s looked lost ever since. That doesn’t mean he’s a counter football player only. It means he needs guidance and he’s missed out on that in his most crucial formative years. Carragher’s point about Ronaldo is not a good one. Ronaldo scored 24 goals, 18 in the Prem at 37. If Ronaldo scored the same at age 27 , would Carragher suggest United get rid of him? Unlikely. So the question is why not? Because he scored 24 goals or because he was 27. I think it’s reasonable to assume it’s because of the goals, not because he’s 27. Yet if Ronaldo is 37 and scores 24 goals Carragher sees him as a problem. Obviously it’s because of his age , not his production. If United get rid of him, where are they going to get those goals from? Rashford, Martial, Fernandes, Nunez, Nkunku? Where? . If Ten Hag does want him out he better be sure that at the very least he is absolutely certain he finds a replacement for those goals. Otherwise, as long as CR7 is productive, you keep him regardless of his age. Lastly, Neville made a good point about the arrival of Ronaldo and that was, when he came, the expectations went thru the roof and certain players couldn’t handle it. Cavani pouted, Fernandes acted like a kid whose big brother joined the team and Maguire got intimidated. Well, to me, that’s on all of them….and on Solskjaer. That’s where it all started to crumble. Theses players acted like babies and Solskjaer didn’t step up like a leader of men to deal with the situation. When Cantano was there , he was intimidating, but Sir Alex was the leader . Neville can give credit to Bruce and the likes but at the core, SAF Was strong enoungnto deal with that mix. Solskjaer didn’t have the leadership skills to navigate the team thru the arrival of Ronaldo and the explosion happened…against Liverpool it all came out in the wash. Ten Hag hopefully won’t have that issue but he has to establish that he is the leader, not Ronaldo, not Maguire or anybody else who comes in. On that point Carragher is correct. The most important person to fix United is the right Manager. Let’s see if Ten Hag is that Manager.

Yeah you're right and I agree with you. But if you expect us to fill all these gaps you better lower your expectations because you will be disappointed. Don't have any expectations then you will be grateful and satisfied ❤

@@mubarakwessam the spine of the team needs addressing the most...a centre back...a CDM....a striker. The rest albeit important will have to wait unless player sales go wonderfully well.

@@mubarakwessam i expect us to tick these boxes off over the next 3-4 transfer windows. But my point is, with so much already to do, why add to that list by getting rid of the only goalscorer you already have?
Hope for the best and expect the worst indeed. The last few years has taught me that very well!

I was expecting something different from Ste, I thought he'd be a bit more challenging on the views or statements that Neville and Carragher have been coming out with, but he was mainly cracking jokes really.

I have to say, I’m tired of hearing Gary Neville’s opinion. I think I’d rather hear Carragher’s and that’s saying something.

Stephen will know, if he actually reads the comments on his show, that I mentioned at the start of last season the problems with Ronaldo, Bruno, Rashford and Maguire...and not forgetting Pogba, all of which have been rehearsed here. I feel vindicated now having been slated for my views then.
For success, Ronaldo needs to be told the he will be considered only in the way that it suits the clubs development. Rashford needs to employ a CEO to take on his role within his charity work which he can take up again when he retires as a legend, Maguire needs to be relieved of the captaincy and play pressure-free and Bruno needs to be the captain and lead the team on the pitch. Pogba is gone and that is a start. Once there is a better balance in the team we will see better performances and a new spirit in the team.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, like the clubs they work for, understand the value of squad players and having quality in depth. A lot of people ragged me about some of those less flashy Liverpool singings, but that depth allows them to go deeper into multiple competitions. 6 trophies in the last three years, including one Premier League and one Champions League. The proof that they know what they're doing is in the cabinet. You can't chase a treble or quadruple without depth, and it doesn't have to be Galactico-level quality either. You think United did it in 98/99 with just 11 players? That's Football 101 people, and two of the best clubs in the world right now have their basics down cold.
