Injuries killed him. When he played you could see he was a top centre half but when you can't play consistently or form a partnership with another centre half your not gonna get the best out of him. Best of luck to him

Sad to see Varane go. Hasnt been RM standard, but when fit and on it he's still our best defender along side Martinez. It just such a shame we didnt get to see 2 years of their partnership developing. On the positive note. his wages should fund a new player

Absolutely! I would add that with Thomas Frank, we need his Moneyball strategy as well. We don't need players on 350K a week that can showboat a bit and then not do their jobs properly. We just need a system and then players that can do their job within the system. Rather than revolving your strategy around players, we need to buy players that revolve around the strategy.
Keep bruno, garnacho, mainoo, hojlund, dalot and get rid of the rest. Rashford, sancho, mctominay, eriksen, antony, shaw, maguire, casemiro, lindelof and awb. Literally funnel the sales into new players at 20-30m a pop who are upcoming and hungry. Why are we not getting players like ji sung park and chicarito who were no names and cost very little and played a huge part in the success.

Last season I went and watched the Brentford game at home. Varane was one of three players (Martinez & Weghorst) that stayed on the pitch to thank the fans, it was pouring with rain but you could tell the club meant a lot to them.

Its right that Varane is leaving but when he was on the pitch he was brilliant. Injuries killed him and i think in his first season Solskjaer was too loyal to Maguire / Lindelof pairing.

@Ace-wp7ld when Shaw is fit, he's arguably the best LB in the league... he's on less than half the money Varane is on. LESS THAN HALF.
No problem with keeping Shaw on terms, or even with an increase in his pay but based on appearances.
But Varane being one of the clubs highest earners, and not being available; that isnt sustainable.
Varane was a classic United buy of recent times. Big name, too much money, not enough return.
We basically have been a retirement home for big names who still have few odd touch of class moments before they go to the terminally ill retirement home.

Awful pity he didn't come when he was younger. Sad to see him go though, clud definitely needs him to go but he seems to be a great character, and when not injured he usually put in a shift for us. Best of luck to him, he'll be remembered fondly.
Shame Varane wasn't fitter, his partnership with Licha was promising. Either way, he underwhelmed and there's no room for sentimentality at United anymore. Good luck in Saudi.

That day when he went out to greet the fans at OT and took a selfie, pfft…ah well. I was absolutely buzzing as well. The manner in which we’ve signed players - since the tenure of Moyes - has been so bad it’s comical. And that’s before you then fall of your chair laughing (but tears) thinking of sales. Surely the tide has finally turned.
Was furious, wanted ETH out. But in the cold light of day, when calm, it is clear that, given what managers are out there, Ten Hag should get another season. At least one more window with proper support.

When will Mctomony, Maguire, Casemiro, AWB, Amrabat, Evans, Lindelof, Rashford, Marshal announce their departure? We know realistically Anthony just signed with Mount but they also are surplus to requirement.
Varane was our best defender over the last three seasons and he played more than some other supposedly reliable central defenders.

With one of the best available lineups in international football, he has not won when he arguably should have done, and he makes bizarre selections not choosing players on merit but favouritism.

I get it varane going makes sense hes not fit enough and on a bad contract but we will miss him in the locker room and he does usually perform when he is fit but such is life.

You can track his excellent work all the way from the Championship, especially with regard to maintaining consistent performances with massive squad upheaval. Want attacking play?
