In this tutorial you will see me explore the use of iron orchid designs paint inlays directly into chalk paint creating the look of a time worn Country house blanket box, I will also see me using chalk paint as a wood stain to cool The wood tone whilst still revealing the beautiful woodgrain. Took me a while to commit to watching this as i thought the artwork looked like it was way out of my league. I'd never heard of a paint inlay before! Absolutely stunning piece. I loved the golden bare grain after it was stripped but the muted tone goes really beautifully.

Jonathan, I love how this blanket box turned out! I like the top with the graphite stain - I think it looks beautiful, but I think it also would have looked pretty with the original golden oak tones. Either way - lovely! The inlays are totally gorgeous-I love how they worked with the graphite and how the dark wax softened them. You certainly paid homage to your friend’s dad with this awesome, beautiful transformation. Bravo! ❤😊👏👏
Thank you very much Elizabeth it’s interesting the transformation of the chart has divided people somehow but I suppose it’s just a matter of taste and choice of what to do I did consider even painting it and changing the pattern on the on the top 😊😊😊

Thank you very much I really love the top but interesting mate is a few people that feel it doesn’t work but I suppose it’s just personal preference this sort of style of furniture is quite popular in the UK maybe not so popular in other places but at least there is some lessons to be learnt 😊❤️🙏
I love the inlay pattern, this piece came out so handsome! And a big thank you for your inspiration; I have two steamer trunks that I received when my Father passed years ago, they originally belonged to my Great Grandfather and you just inspired me to put them in my spare bedrooms. I have three others, but didn't know what to do with two, now I do! Big hug!

Wow Jonathan the stain and dark wax and light distressing are great tips and really enhanced this piece. I'm considering this inlay on my dining set with AS duck egg blue. I bet a touch of dark wax would look great?? THIS time I'm going to practice on a scrap wood before tackling such a big project.

Hi Jonathan 👋, I think you have done this lovely blanket box proud! I do love a good Chinoiserie bird motif and the IOD Grisaille toile is a good one! I am a proud IOD Stockist and so have enjoyed working with the paint inlays on many and varied projects. Yours bedded in nicely into the ASCP. You got a beautiful result! I was pleased to see you use the no fuss method of the spray sealer. I use this method as well. I find it locks in the paint of the inlay really well. It might be a little stinky but I like it! Congratulations on a beautiful piece ❤️
Yes I found this way of feeling very easy and I did not use a heavy coat so it didn’t seem that very shiny towards the end once it was waxed I think I probably use this method more often even when I use the lacquer it seemed actually more shiny weirdly 😊😊❤️
