    I can understand why the literary Bond didn’t dress that stylish. A special agent doesn’t want to stand out. He wants to blend in.

    I gotta say I've been really enjoying all your videos and you seem to fill a void that is missing within the category of fashion videos. I really like the styles you talk about and all these videos are really put together and always give me good inspiration and ideas, so awesome work!

      @w.adammandelbaum1805 Yeah haha, I'm 24 and have only just recently started caring about the clothes I wear so his vids have helped a lot and it's the style I'm most drawn to. I don't have the British charm but I gotta make do with what I have!

      @@brads8350build a minimal wardrobe & always take inspiration from timeless looks. Cary Grant, Alain Delon & maybe Daniel Craig with Steve McQueen for casual inspiration. Stanley Tucci has a good style as well.

    I have read almost all of them. In fact, I’m reading Goldfinger and Thunderball right now. I haven’t read them all in order by the way. I can’t say I ever remember him mentioning he wears short sleeve shirts. Not sure where that came from. But great video!

    Thanks for the video. I'm a big fan of the Fleming books and fashion. I suspect that Bond, like Fleming, dressed expensively while simply. We know that he had a tailor- as mentioned in Dr No, and the brand name drops were always premium. Like most of us, his wardrobe was likely scattered with other items that he wore as occasion demanded like the black leather sandals or the white dinner jacket he wore in Thunderball.

    I have been reading the Ian Filming novels in order and as usual the books are different from the movies. I was surprised at the lack of style Bond has in the books and I like the movies better in that case. However the movies are out of order and reading the books makes more sense and Segway into each other giving you more understanding of the things that happen and the characters such as John Strangways and Felix leiter. Leiter is way different in the books. Won't give any spoilers in case someone wants to read them. Cheers Ron

      Thanks for your comment, Ron! I personally find the books have more atmosphere and storyline than the movies, the worst of which rely on action scenes too much

    I’ve always loved the way the various James Bond’s looked in these films. They were so handsome and stylish. I especially liked the scenes where Bond would be in a casino playing blackjack and he’d be wearing a tuxedo that was obviously tailor made for him and he looked so debonair. My FAVORITE Bond was the Australian actor George Lazenby. He only played James once (in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service) but I think he was the best of them all, with the exception of Connery. Like Connery, he was a model before becoming an actor, and he always looked SENSATIONAL in the clothes he wore!

      I do not recall specifically where I read it, but some film critics consider OHMSS to be the best Bond movie made as far as its total development of Bond's character and the story.

    • @suzimajor9532
      @suzimajor9532 Před 6 měsíci

      @@edwinhoward42 I’d agree to that! It was the only 007 film that had Bond, the lifelong dedicated bachelor, getting MARRIED (and then unfortunately losing his bride at the end). Lazenby had the role of Bond locked down but he supposedly demanded too much money for the next film, Diamonds are Forever, and lost the part.

    I was born in the 60’s and ❤ everything about the decade today for the fashion. My bond was Sean for this reason.
    When Sean ‘got the job’ Terence Young ‘knocked Sean’ into shape as Sean was a ‘very rough diamond’
    Terence knew all the right people so Anthony Sinclair for the suits. Turnball & Asser for the shirts and John Lobb for the shoes.
    In 1967 Sean in an interview told the interviewer that he had kept all the clothes from all the films made.
    I wonder what has happened to them since October 2020🙏🙏🙏

    I believe in the books, Bonds' watch was a typical black faced, full Arabic numerals no date Rolex typical of a standard military issue watch of WW2 and not the Submariner. Rolex refused to supply one and they used Broccoli's personal watch, a no date Sub on the undersized cloth strap.

      @darbythornton9471 Před 6 měsíci +1

      I always felt the colors of belts and shoes have to match as well as fabric...suede shoes, suede belt etc. However, at times it appears too match matchy...so instead of belt showing, at times, I wear braces, knits with a waistband or light cardigan under a sports jacket. It can be exhausting I must admit.

    • @NXatNight
      @NXatNight Před 6 měsíci

      I guess we just try to feel good in what we wear and it feels kind of exhausting from time to time to consider different possibilities. I also felt that it sometimes, as you said is to "matchy" so to speak, I've made often the effort to wear a matching piece of jewelry like a watch, but then when I see myself matched I do try to consciously make it messy, I don't know if that even makes sense but yea, that's my thought process on this matter. @@darbythornton9471

    I have read a few of the Bond books: Casino Royale, Thunderball, Diamonds are Forever, Moonraker, and Dr. No. In my opinion, the books are superior to the movies in their character development. What Bond lacks in sartorial sophistication is made up for in his appetites, which Fleming describes in detail. Fleming describes what Bond drinks, eats, and smokes. How Bond plays cards is described as well----with diagrams in one book. I also enjoy that we learn what Bond is thinking. Bond is afraid in the books. He cries in one. He prays in one. Finally, the books are time capsules to a different time. Bond is a ruthless killer. By today's standards, activists would try to cancel Bond for his thoughts about women and other races, but he is also a creature of the 1950s British upper class. In some strange way, they are engrossing because of how Fleming writes and how uninhibited Bond is in everything he thinks, feels, and does. I am not a medical or psychological expert, but I served in naval intelligence in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa. I have to wonder if Bond suffers from PTSD. Fleming drops hints that Bond remembers sounds, senses, and memories that trigger him. Perhaps Bond copes through destruction behaviors: alcohol, smoking, gambling, lots of sex (sometimes with married women), and violence. As I understand it, Terrance Young was responsible for injecting much of the style into the Bond movies. Thanks for the excellent video! I always learn something from your work.

    I read the books as a kid before I saw most of the movies, and as I grew up and learned how to wear clothes, I realized Bond was kind of a slob, in addition to an alcholic and occasional drug user, lol. What I find funny looking at young men in 2024 is that his short sleeve shirts under suits and loafers in every setting are like early "business casual", lol. Also reminds me of how guys (not this guy) were wearing t-shirts and espadrilles with itallian suits and blazers in the Miami Vice 80's. I always saw novel Bond as a guy trying to enjoy his life before he got killed, so food, alcohol, sex, cigarettes and comfortable clothes.
