Great video but just a correction on the watch section, a steel bracelet does not make a diver's watch, as there are plenty of other styles of watches with steel bracelet, and original divers actually often have a rubber or nylon strap. What makes a diver's watch is the high water resistance, luminous markers and hands and a timing rotating bezel.
Thanks Pedro, I’ve been learning a lot more about watches since I made this video and you are indeed correct. I suppose the watches I showed would be considered either field watches or dress watches?
@@Gent.Z 7:03 Field crossing into Dress, better described as a Sport watch. 7:16 Dress Watch (frankly a bit too thick IMO, wish seiko would make a mechanical version of the Presage line and cut a couple mm off the case height). There's a lot of crossover these days in what can be considered a Dress Watch as the dress code has been relaxed. For a good example of a Dive Watch look at the Seiko SKX007 or the Rolex Submariner (or the Tudor Pelagos 39, if you're looking for a more tool-y looking luxury dive watch).
Very true, thank you@@lancehoward3990 ! I have been expanding my watch knowledge since making this video, with help from Pedro too!
Informative video. I have a passing interest in style and fashion but to me the most important attribute of a man is manners and how he dresses is somewhat secondary. As an example a man who dresses well but is rude and lacks respect for others I do not like.
yeah I cringed a little when I read that.
Great video. Its interesting how often were told "looks dont matter" as children, but as soon as we are in adulthood, we immediately see how beneficial it is to maintain an image. Mem who are well groomed, wearing the right clothes, and are in shape have so many social advatages. Its a silly game, but it would be sillier not to partake
Absolutely! Unfortunately, we are misled as children about many things
I think most parents want to teach their kids to look "into the person" and not the clothes to avoid becoming superficial. Generally that's a positive thing. At a certain age however I think it's a good advice to teach kids oder teens to dress properly, preventing them from learning it "the hard way".
It's not silly, how you care for yourself and the effort you put in give people information about the likelihood that you will make the same efforts in your work and put the same care into your relationships. It's an outer expression of your inner character. Although it's not always accurate it's the first thing people have to go off of when they don't have any other information about you yet.
@@Gent.ZAs an older male myself, I still prefer to wear decent jeans, decent t-shirts (in warm weather) and other comfortable clothes regardless of my age in general casual places where others including women are dressed the same. I’m aware of the need to dress modestly in certain finer places. However, there needs to be a happy medium as opposed to anything being forced upon us like a dictatorship which would be confining and restrictive
who told you looks don't matter?
I'm a search and rescue officer. Due to the necessity of the job, at work I look like I've been lost in the woods for 2 weeks.
That's why I love to be well-dressed and groomed on my own time. It just makes me feel better.
One thing I am going to do is wean myself away from denim and into chinos almost exclusively.
It makes sense, since I find cotton and linen to be much more comfortable than denim, anyway.
My first big switch is footwear. No more flip flops or sneakers. Nice strat, by the way!
Spot on. Good manners and presentation is important. Self respect and respect toward others is the mark of a gentleman.
Cheers
Good evening,
Leather shoes look better than sneakers in every situation, that's what I've learned from this.
In pretty much every situation, yes! If you're wearing shorts and a T-shirt, then white sneakers may be better. But anytime you are wearing jeans, chinos, or a suit, opt for leather and suede to look sophisticated.
I like a pair of simple sneakers if I'm dressing more casual. I go for white adidas susperstars and try to cleaned before going out, especially if I'm choosing to wear a t-shirt they will work better than leather dress shoes
Leather shoes alone elevate any outfit and improves your image so you don't look like a kid
Excellent. I’m ancient enough that in my formative years this was part of our upbringing.
Along with the casual lifestyle our manners have atrophied.
I live in Florida so usually it's impossible to dress nice without suffocating yourself, but when I worked in real estate, I had to change it up. I wore those boots you showed and it reminded me that girls really did like them, they asked about them all the time. I forgot about that until now lol
That's great. It's possible to dress well in hot weather too, I have some videos dedicated specifically to the topic.
@@Gent.Z will give it a look! Thanks man!
Great comment about looking people in the eye...also I need to add grey chinos to my attire.
Thank you! And yes - they are a game changer! If you live somewhere that is cold in the winter, grey flannel trousers might be a good option too.
What I learned from this video? Everything you say in this video and your other videos about manners, behavior, clothing, appearance and inner attitude (character) is correct. Normally this should be conveyed to a young person through their parents' home, relatives, good friends of the parents, kindergarten, schools, dance schools and sports clubs, but unfortunately this is no longer the case in many cases today. It's hard and uncomfortable to say no in education and to uphold your own values. I only learned many of these characteristics when I was in my mid-twenties and realized that I wasn't getting anywhere socially. 35 years later I have to realize that, on the one hand, good manners and honest behavior have helped me a lot in my life, but on the other hand, the level has fallen sharply today. The good thing about it is what used to be taken for granted: young people with good manners and determination immediately stand out as positive ones in the gray crowd and are sought after by all employers and showered with good work. On the one hand, it is so easy to ask the old and successful what they value in young people and on the other hand, the introduction of smartphones has made young people seem to have forgotten how to communicate with respect. Valuable knowledge has never been as easily accessible as it is today! A lack of good manners automatically closes doors for one's own future, and young people don't even know that these doors even exist.
Great video! Your advice is very much needed in today’s world.
An example: I remember taking planes in the 1950s and early 1960s. Everyone was well-dressed in business or business casual style, everyone acted with consideration and dignity, there were no “incidents”, and a flight was something pleasurable.
Comparing the deportment of people back then with that of people today demonstrates the need for teachings such as yours.
Keep up the good work!
At 45 I’m a long way from a young guy, but unless I’m working the garden, turning a wrench or doing other dirty work, Dockers have become my every day pants year round. I really love the vintage style so I always pair them with a long sleeve button up, suspenders and fedora
I see men in their late 20s out to dinner with their girl and the girl looks like a million bucks, but the guy? He looks like his date's young brother and her mother told her to take him along. There he is...nice restaurant, 7:30 p.m., shorts, tee shirt, and baseball cap (worn backwards, of course).
Same here. It is a common sight. The backwards worn baseball cap is a douchy move, not to mention the NBA or NFL attire when there is no game happening.
Most men look like overgrown 5th graders.
THANK YOU!!! glad somebody finally says it.
I would add joggers to paints a gentleman should not wear. I would also add anything polyester. The only fabric acceptable for gentleman are wool, cotton, cashmere, linen and silk.
I agree as to leather shoes. I love my Belgium loafer.
I have a Mark Cross briefcase I purchased secondhand. I refinished it and it looks great, more elegant than a backpack.
I would add Bulova to your watch options. They are not expensive and that what Frank wore and you can’t be cooler than Frank. My favorite Frank Sinatra song is “My Way” which reflect my life and why I have the Frank Sinatra “My Way” watch in my collection.
Great advice! Looking at more chinos in my wardrobe after watching this
The only time I wear sweats in public is if there's an emergency, and i font have time to change, or if it's late at night and im walking across the street to get a snack from the nearby 7-11
Such an underrated channel.
PS also wearing a Seiko, best bang for your buck watches!
Thank you, Chris! There are a lot more videos coming :) And yes Seiko is just fantastic, I'm glad you're enjoying wearing yours.
I’ll need a lot of money to purchase all leathers stuff . But , I totally agree this turns your style up to the next level
I always were my $400 stainless steel Citizen watch. I consistently get compliments on it. Many people mistake it for a Breitling. It definitely dresses up my look.
Love the channel mate. Glad the algo recommended it to me. As a designer, I gotta pick on you a bit tho :) grey isn’t a “non-color”, it’s all colors but less saturated. Keep up the great work! 😊
2nd video I’ve watched of yours and I just subscribed. Keep it up, I feel you could really build this channel. Just a heads up, the metal bracelet doesn’t make a watch a dive watch. Dive watches have 100 plus meters water resistance, luminous markers and hands, usually a rotating bezel. Thanks for the info on chino colors.
I love the color of that Strat. I’ve had a white one for decades, but I get color-envy when I see a green one.
I think this video was truly insightful, thanks for sharing!
Great video. Nailed it 👍🏾 ✅ - I think every man should have 3 watches. A sports-steel bracelet model for dressier day to day/work-wear, a slim low profile dress watch for formal events, and a casual daily driver for weekends or casual wear.
Yes for cheaper dress watches, skip the Daniel Wellington and look at an Orient Bambino or Timex Marliner.
Couldnt agree more. Chinos on the regular. Khaki, navy, grey, olive green. And put the damn phone down when someone is waiting or during a transaction, rude as a mf.
Glad you agree! Another great option for pants would be wool trousers, especially if you're somewhere that gets cold in the winter!
@@Gent.Z From Massachusetts. Grey wool trousers in the rotation for sure
Helpful comment: "these ones" is commonly said, but it's redundant. "These" is sufficient. Your videos are quite good, btw.
Hey brother
I agree it’s like when I go out several things you talk about being out really do matter
I'm going to start tucking in my shirt more often in casual situations. I am just average height and very slender, so I think tucking in my shirt will complement my natural physique.
Add a little at a time and you'll be amazed at how good you look, especially when tailored.
I am actually about to buy my first pair of chinos... can't wait.
That’s great, William! Tailoring is a huge way to improve your look too
I’ve definitely nailed down the watch game - fossil makes amazing watches. Gonna get a hold of grey chinos now
I just started making a little bit of money atm, and definitely I'm moving towards good clothes and watches since i couldn't afford them before, I'm beginning to consider everything classy rather than trendy casual stuff, because you know looking great is a little expensive for someone getting paid less than the average wage, so I'll be putting as much as i can aside so i can promote my outfit from casual trendy to classy gentleman (not the English gentleman of the 1800s, you know modern classy looking man)
I'd like to add: I agree, I hate weird wallets and people who exclusively use their smart phones to pay. For a long time I had a trifold Ralph Lauren wallet, but about 12 years ago I got a Longchamps bifolding wallet--the classic men's style--and it still looks the samet--amazing! If you want to spend a bit more for exotic materials and colours,, I can also recommend Jean Rousseau, if you are located in the NYC area.
Well I turned 30 this year.
And I would just want to follow the last two extra tips you mentioned (Tucking in and using less phone in public)
Because all the other things are already followed by me.
Style is forever…Thanks from New Zealand
A lot of days I’m at the gym, after I leave the gym I’m headed to do cardio at the track. From there I usually make my runs before going home. So, I’m mostly in athletic wear during the day. I would have to go all the way back home to change clothes after the gym then out and about from there
Spot On !!! :) I thought it was just me.! Well said.
I wear 5’5” inseam shorts with plain Ts (or linen shirt) all season long
Those were all excellent suggestions!
Thanks Suzi! I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel
Great vid, mate. If I might make a suggestion. Relax on the eyebrow trimming. When you over trim, you get bald patches. Hope you have an amazing day. Cheers!
For that final tip, I noticed that people find it odd when I do not have a phone on my person or out in my hand all of the time - especially my friends. I would want to be paid the attention needed to hold a proper conversation if I am out with friends or the like, so I naturally do not have a phone out every other moment; doubly so for walking, as I believe that it is important to actually pay attention to my surroundings. Just the other day I had my phone out in public for once, as I was exchanging phone numbers with my friend, and another of my friends blurted out, "Wow, you actually look normal!" Everyone else there, including I, stared blankly at them.
Thanks for the video. I usually wear dark colors like Olive Brown and Black shirts. My dress style is like a mix of Tony Soprano and Mr. Rogers(I think you can google who that is) I think that looks good on a middle age man. My mother often complains I dress like old people, I tell her I am 48 so I am old people now:)I have bought Khaki pants but never bought Chinos, since my wieght fluctates a lot I only buy Haggar pants with the expandable waistband so if my weight goes up The band expands 3 inches and if it goes down I can wear the exact size. I think they make chinos but in a slim fit, maybe i will save up to get some tailor made by Lainieri or Indochino. Anyways thanks for the video. You really give good advice to the young guys out there hopefully this trend will start having the Younger generations dress elegantly like they did in the earlier decades until the 1970's .
Thank you! Some guys also like side adjusters if they’re weight fluctuates a little. So that might be a good thing to include if you do go custom for pants :)
Mr. Rogers' cardigan look was pretty much the same as Cary Grant's cardigan look, so there's that.
@@edennis8578Fred Rogers was a classy gentleman. Unfortunately on Facebook posts when people respond in a rude manner, they are posting a picture of Fred Rogers putting a clown mask on in a demeaning way. It’s disgusting how ignorant plenty of people are
I read somewhere that Chelsea boots were a favourite of Queen Victoria who used them as her slippers.
How you feel about timex watches? They do look professional and it's budget friendly, for leather shoes, are Derby, double monk, wingtips, and Chelsea good enough for everyday wear all year long?
I really enjoyed your video and I gained a lot.
I will be buying a leather bag soon. Thanks
Thank you, sir. Very happy people are getting value from this channel
Thanks for great advice
These tips are good. I can also provide two honorable mentions.
1. If you are smoker you should consider holding your cigarettes in a steel cigarette case and use a zippo lighter instead of a plastic one. This will make you seem more mature than you are.
2. Instead of using pencils or some cheap pen, buy yourself a classic pen. It also makes you look more mature and stylishbin my opnion
I totally agree with your suggestions, thank you.
@@Gent.Z No problem. Keep up the great work!
I agree with everything you mentioned, real adult man don't dress like girls, but also they don't pluck eyebrows. Also Seiko Presage is not divers watch, Seiko has diver watches and usually it is written on a face of it "diver".
Love ur enthusiasm and I love to dressnicely too and I'm also into watches too and mate that is not a dive watch that is a seiko presage line up dress watch with 30 meters of water resistance, there are other watches which are called dive watches they have a rotating bezel and a 200 meters of watet resistance minimum which is designed for sea diving bezels are used to keep a track of the amount of oxygen remaining in the oxygen tank.
Companies mix the terms Chinos and Khakis, which doesn't help the buyer. One is said to link back to China (due to cotton) while the other India (due to color). Regardless, you just need to understand the two different pocket styles. One has horizontal pockets the same as jeans, however the other has almost vertical pockets closer to what is found on dress pants. The horizontal pocket is a tad more casual.
The shirt in/out images were of slim men in their thirties (at a guess). I am in my late seventies and like a lot of people have a paunch. I "hide" this with a shirt out.
You've sold me on wearing leather shoes instead of running shoes as casual wear, but without socks? A lot of pictures of shoes without socks. Can't do it. It makes the shoes stink to high heaven! Socks absorb sweat, then you take them off and wash them. Leather just stores the sweat and the stink too.
White sneakers is the bane of the flipping world. One day out of the box and they are grey and dirty looking. Students are currently wearing the worst of what the 80's had to offer. I agree with everything you've said. 10 points.
Hey brother
Thanks for the reminder about dressing for my age .
Excelentes Tips! greetings from Mexico
It's interesting the thing you said about the $250 watch that looks like a Rolex to the average eye, because in the movie American Psycho Patrick Bateman wasn't actually wearing a Rolex but instead he was a wearing a Seiko and still it played the part as good as the Rolex; in my opinion that is because the watch by itself offers great value per dollar and also blends harmoniously with the rest of Bateman's style elements, so the watch doesn't steal the limelight but complements the look as a whole.
Where did You buy this white OCBD shirt? Looks great.
White leather sneakers get sweaty feet in the summer. Better alternatives are mesh knit white sneakers.
True! I'm making a video about dressing in hot climates right now and will be sure to make this point
Leather shoes should always be matched with a pair of shoe trees when not on your feet. They help to slowly dry the sweat from the leather and return them to their proper shape while doing so. Leather loafers come in many styles that are comfortable in warmer climates. Don't discount leather as a material for shoes just because it is hot outside.
A diver watch is the one with the steel bracelet :D you probably want to retract this statement
keep it up man
Great video. Before watching your video, I had doubts about my recent purchases, because I went for the more unconventional gray and olive trousers instead of beige or khaki. I also bought a pair of chelsea boots because of how easy it is to wear although none of my friends wear any leather boots, only converse and sneakers. I also bought a leather hand bag and hadn't brought it out yet because I was afraid of getting ridiculed. This video is spot on! I guess the one thing I would like to add is stop wearing hoodies and wear a sport coat. I like hoodies once in a while after the gym or for a casual hang out with the guys, but I see everyone wearing hoodies to everywhere recently.
Owned 11 pairs of chinos different colors since 2019. I don't prefer jeans anymore. For shoes I only wear New Balance and Red Wing
I agree on everything except the wallet. I think carrying too stuff in your wallet is not a good look and it’s not good on your back when your sitting. I think a think ridge wallet with some essentials. But love your content. Keep it up
Nice video. Although, one thing almost caused pain in my feet. Right, the shoes shown here. Before putting on such shoes, look at the shape of your foot. Then look at the narrow toebox. Found any similarities?
Soften the brows a bit, mate. Clinique have nice brow stuff. Also, little more texture, less structure in the hair. It's a bit Johnny Bravo. A Gua sha in obsidian, blokey looking, would really help you out.
Reccs for brands: Samuel Windsor (used to make nice clothes too), Moss, Ettinger, Hawes & Curtis, M&S jeans (shockingly good), Crockett and Jones - and Dents. From a Millennial bird who shops menswear. Your advice is good in general, took me years to figure some of that stuff out. Please don't be offended?
When I lived in the UK, I used to shop at Moss a lot. Their quality is not great but the styles are very classic. No offense taken. My brows are completely natural though (with a bi-weekly threading appt).
Yo! seabreeze4559 go easy on people, lighten up on strangers, everyone has their quirks 😅
Looking people in the eye more..will be my improvement.. Thank you!
Chino will never replace Jeans please remember that as long as you live…
Could you elaborate?
Always wear an understated watch I wear a Walter Gropius design
I personally i prefer the older school 🏫 styles and brands. I have Longine with a very simple and undeerstated elegance.
I recognized your face and voice from another set of vlogs. I prefer this emphqsis on being serious and adult as opposed to being a gentleman, which can seem pretentious today, as if having to work for a living is still a stigma. I could not agree more with your opinions. You should never wear a backpack, except in a rustic context--I don't even like them for tourism. I never wear "trainers" ever--in the summer especially but in a very casual context such as at the seashore--chinos, T-shirt or polo, classic canvas white shoes (pro tennis players actually wore Jack Purcells when I grew up) such as Sperry Topsiders in the US are acceptable. But leather shoes are always the best, suede in summer but suede oxfords or Gibsons classic in fall and spiring; and if it is a dress shoes of any kind you need to learn to mirror shine them. I hate ball caps, especially worn backwards, but in winter and summer, my eyes are weak to glare, so I have to wear one when I drive a car. I could wear a fedora, I suppose, but my wife won't let me spend $800+ for what I want--and watches--no iWatch, or plastic Swatch cartoon watch, I'm prejudiced, but any mechanical watch--there are cheap ones like Hamilton or the various ETA movement watches is an absolute must. If I see a second hand jumping instead of sweeping, I take that person much less seriously.
i wear platform boots. can't do loafers. i need the 3 inch platform
Eyebrows are wild 😂
What an elegant young man you are, too bad I am old enough to be your grandmother
Is that a Fender strat over there in the background?
Thanks!
Thank you for your support of my channel!
Just a little comment, none of the watches you showed is a diving or divestyle watch. They where all dress watches and everyday beater watches. Seiko make great watches and does Citizen and Orient, but a dive/divestyle watch should have divers bezel.
Great hair young man.
What about a leather backpack? Nordweg, here in Brasil, makes wonderful leather backpacks.
What watch are you wearing
Lol bro you look like Jesse Lingard ... Great video by the way
Do you colour your eyebrows?
What is the fit at 9:53?
Or quality leather sneakers.....like thurs boot offers
Man, you look stunning with your natural hair. Not sure about this style tho
There's a time and place for everything
I also would like to offer my comments about shoes. Buy the best ones you can barely afford. You will not regret it, ever. If you're not after bespoke, I do suggest you go to a store and try the real stock shoe on; my size 6F British is very different depending on make; my old pairs, crotch vamp from 50 years past fit fine, but I have a low volume low instep foot; apparently people have changed and I have Gibsons bought recently, and the flaps are touching and the shoes still are extremely loose. Wear your pocket square, a beautiful necktie, but parade ground shined leather dress shoes will make you stand out, even when wearing an oxford cloth button down and chinos. Yeah, the shirt can be unironed, as a proof it is real cotton and not permanent press, but the SHOES make the man. Also, I remember bringing in a pair of shoes for refurbishment to Church's in New York during a snowstorm. I wore Chippewa black ankle boots and the clerk complimented me on a very suitable choice for the weather.
You could do with some more research about watches. None of those were dive watches. A dive watch would have 20 bar water resistance (200 meters/660 feet) and a rotating bezel to time an hour with. Other than that, great video.
I knew from the title he would say T-shirt and shorts. Sure enough lol
Going to buy some loafers for the summer
Never even thought about the air pods thing. I'm at fault about this
Jeanos - easier to pickpocket than jeans. I don't particularly like that. And watches - I'd rather have a modern smartwatch with a classic look, than a dated quartz or mechanical timepiece. I always want to be up to date with technology.
I love your new North Korea hair style
great vid
Thank you, Kenneth!
Great advice…agreed. Keep it simple in form and colour, minimal, well made and well fitting. That also applies to shorts and t-shirt’s.
I’m getting older and wanting to tuck my shirt in these days and end up looking like a “Dad”.
My wife will correct me 😂
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I can see from your profile pic that you have some classic sunglasses and stylish, plain T-Shirts!
I’ve been enjoying your videos, you give some really good advice. However, I feel I must point out that a gentleman never dyes his eyebrows wtf 😂
Respectfully, there is noting like a good metal card holder.
right on - APPLE PAY IS RIDICULOUS!
No it’s convenient, get with the times
Bro that's not diver watch , diver watch have rotating bezel to note a time for scuba divers it's great function in watch history now it's more in fashion
Nice video 👍
❤
I don’t always need to be elegant. I’m a working class man, not a stiff in the Royal family. Chinos are OUT. Black denim with a band T and a pair of boots will always be cool
You don't > have to < anything. But if you do look good, you'll ser the difference in your life ;)
Just a lot of people thinking they get rich if they become a rich stuntman. There's formal and causal occasions. No need to look like a 80s office worker 24/7
