Tasha, that was inspiring as hell. At 19, I was pregnant with my son and could not bare having an abortion. It was a tough few years. I was on the same mindset as you, I chose engineering because it's high paying and it doesn't require post graduate education, I finally graduated. I feel I wouldn't have been able to do it without my parents whom I still live with. I try giving them as much as I can. Currently, I'm building up my savings, getting rid of debt, and trying to grow my money, while helping them with renovating the house, paying bills etc. I bought my first car, and now I feel like close to being ready to move into my own place. It's a long journey, and a difficult one. But my biggest drive is my kid.

Although the title implies that it's a story about making lots of money. I noticed she wasn't as motivated by it, which is a good lesson. She mentions the money a few times but more times she mentions being a good role model for her daughter and proving people wrong. Despite her not so ideal situation she even remained critical of the life she wanted and not go with a medical career. Very inspiring story, thanks for sharing!

There's no success without sacrifice. It's amazing how strong we can be when we have no choice but to succeed. I wasn't really good student in high school been immigrants with language barrier and very forgetful naturally. I didn't think i was smart enough to make it in college. I told my friend I don't want to go college I'm not smart enough to he motivated me told me just tried for one semester if I dont try I'll regret it. So I turned my C's to A's my senior year in high went to college I keep telling myself one test at a time then one class at a time then one semester at a time not until my last semester in college that I believe I'll actually graduated from college. I have asked for help from friends and study harder bc I can't remember alot naturally. I end up with several degrees. Don't ever doubt yourself you're alot smarter and stronger than you realized. My friend always said to me i know you can do anything if you put your mind into it.

Possibly great time management skills and stamina. I feel you, I get burn out pretty quickly, i tend to work super hard long hours fueled by inspiration but only 3-4 months and then I need at least 1 month of nothing to recover, but I dont think it's the way to go. However, in her case its understandable, there was no choice but to work your ass off, sleepless nights and insane amount of stress. I had that before too (not in the same degree), but last year I had a full time very stressful job and last semester of university (theses paper, governmental exams, and regular exams), insane amount of stress that I wanted to just quit everything, but when you know that there is an end to it, even though maybe not very soon but there will be you just go go go.

I have to agree with everyone else I'm disabled because I have mental and physical issues from mosaic down syndrome. I need help in daily life I don't blame anyone nor am I negative but it's also reality. I love stories like hers because I wish the best for everyone but each person's situation is unique and I think it's become popular to just blame poor and/or disabled people for their lot in life. There's this stereotype that most if not all of us are lazy or negative. I go to an adult day program and do a lot of chores there as well as helping others as much as I can. I am known for my positive attitude and compassion towards others but I can't walk from my house to the car without hurting myself sometimes. I also choke on foods so I will not be able to live alone soon. I'm going to a really good group home soon they have home cooked meals and private rooms where only I and staff will have a key. There's only 10 rooms and not many people get in to this home but I know most of the clients and some of the staff and am well respected so I am in the process now of doing the things necessary to move there. I'm probably about a month away from actually moving in. I'm very excited everyone's story is different to me my story is also a success story of sorts. I have lived on my own with family nearby for a long time and did the best I could with what I have. I tell my story to make you realize just because someone doesn't make a six figure income doesn't mean they are making excuses and also if you listen to her story she received help and used those things as stepping stones to get where she wanted to be.

I can definitely vouch for this approach from my own experience. I decided when I was 12 that I was going to an Ivy League college, because I heard that was the best you could do to set yourself up for success. So many people dismissed the idea and told me I couldn't because my family had never gone to college at all, we were poor, and living in a little town in the middle of nowhere. But I got into both of the colleges I applied to, Brown and Yale.
I also leveraged debt skillfully for college, business funding, housing, and cars over the years. For me the payoff was hitting 6 figures for just a few years, then quickly realizing that the dreams of youth were not really my dreams. My dream was early retirement and a life finally learning how to be happy, not just hopeful of future earned happiness.
Now I'm retired in my early 50s and truly living a happy life. The hard work and perseverance of youth were necessary to get here, but so was learning how to let it go and shift into something else when the time came. Whatever your personal dream is, I hope you believe in yourself enough to pursue it, whatever it takes. And keep an open mind as you continue to evolve and your dreams do too.

Their parents paying for rent which costs 1500/month. While I am here paying my own rent, sharing a room to cut the cost, 24 and still don't have car, in debt for my masters (I don't know why I am still complaining because I got a full-ride for undergrad so I graduated with a BS Chem with zero debt), and I am getting rejected by so many companies for full-time. 28 and I'm seeing it too. My friend had her baby at 20 and now she's 30 and goes to school with me... after 4 years they go to school so I feel like if you have kids around then you could go back to school/work at 24-25. If you have support.

It doesn't feel like willpower. It feels like eating donuts. Going after what you really want feels really good even if it is work.--Tasha

  • @michaelannamarylopez1629

Thank you Tasha. Your success story is inspiring and gives our family hope. We bought our first house at 19 and sold it before the housing crash. We were able to pay off my husband's student loans because of the sale. We had no mentors nor involved parents so it has been a struggle for us to get to where we are now but we hope to give our own children the mentorship and guidance they need for their own lives. Your videos help so much with that goal! Thank you for giving back!!!!

Though I never had to deal with pregnancy I always struggled with ill family members and supporting them through out college , never mind myself. I work two part time jobs and support a sick mother and my dad he was in and out of work for a little bit and was in a law suit and I had a lot of family pass away which for me is emotionally draining and depressing on top of having my high school boyfriend leave me in my junior year whom I was with for 6 years. SO, AFTER 4 years of hell fire, I'll be graduating with a computer science degree in may and Im so excited to get to working and starting a better job thats full time with benefits. Well worth the time and effort it took to get through these tough times. Luckily I had a lot of friends in college to give me emotional support and food.

Months before I saw you on TFD, I came across one of your big meal prep videos with your whole family and it was very touching to see you all working away as a family together. Thinking about that as I listened to your story, makes me teary. You are an inspiration! (Glad you are part of the TFD gang now--good stuff!)
