- Ukraine says there is heavy fighting taking place in Kharkiv, as Russia intensifies its attacks on the region.
This follows Friday's surprise incursions across the border, seizing at least nine villages and settlements in one of the most significant ground attacks since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Thousands of civilians have fled towards Kharkiv, and there are concerns among Ukrainian commanders about what could happen if Russian forces get within artillery range of the city.
Kharkiv regional head Oleh Syniehubov said Russia was deliberately trying to stretch the front line by attacking in small groups in new directions.

Russian army in Ukraine was only 190 000 at the beginning of the war. They definitely didn't intend to take Kiev or something of the kind. They wanted to force Zelenskyy to a negotiation table. Since then Russian aims changed. Russian army is getting stronger by the day, while Zelenskyy army is going down the drain. It's obvious that Kharkov can't be the main direction of Russian offensive, but the problem is that Zelenskyy nevertheless needs reserves to halt this offensive and hold the front elsewhere. Anyway, in three days Russian forces liberated at least (the situation is rapidly changing) 11 settlements, entered Bugrovatka and encircling Volchansk. Day before yesterday, 120 Ukrainian border guards refused to fight, 60 surrendered; an elite nazi battalion Kraken equipped and trained by NATO ran from the battlefront and refused to fight, some of them were captured by Russians. Russian troops storm the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Stelmakhovka area in the Kupyansky direction now.

I don’t know if it’s corruption or just plain incompetence but Ukraines lack of defences such as mines, bunkers etc is really doing them some damage and it’s extremely worrying considering how much time they’ve had to build up which defences
@GadzonkaZonka What’s your problem? I’m going off of what Ukrainian soldiers themselves are saying? Veterans that retook these regions have themselves said that Russian troops were able to just walk in, there should’ve been lines of defence a year ago
Its due to most of the aid money being used to line the pockets of the Ukrainian leadership less and less is used for the front line and to pay the soldiers I wonder how many have body armour or get hospital treatment.
So absolutely sad and tragic to see those older people and villagers. Having to leave their humble homes.
