    First of all, at that point, he'd been awake for a few minutes at least. Also, if that's how you talk to strangers right after you wake up, don't go to sleep in public. That whole ordeal is reprehensible, especially from someone who has much more privilege than most other people. Doesn’t sound like he was dragged off like other people have been, plus police were just standing there not even restraining him, so it doesn’t seem like he was a threat to anyone else, even though they had everyone deboard. Actually, seems like he was talking directly to one person who was mouthy with him first. it’s not right but that other person was instigating as well because they were upset. Some people don’t wake easily, and I get how that can be an issue, but the seemed a little excessive. I would be annoyed but the situation did not even call for all of this. Growing up, I was always told the stories of what life was like before the nazi’s came in and took away my grandma’s family, how if their neighbors didn’t lie and say that her and her two sisters were their children, then they would never have made it out.
    That terrified me, but also I felt so super safe as she said the world said never again. And then Charlottesville march happened. And then the attacks on cemeteries and synagogues- and the rise of fascism…
    I’m terrified I may see the inside of a camp in five years, and my daughter won’t have anyone who would be willing to risk everything to save her like my grandma had. So yeah, I’m terrified, I want to find some sort of safety somewhere but I can’t move as we don’t actually have enough funds- IKNOW SHOCKER A BROKE JEW- but it’s true and it has always been.

    I was raised as an Orthodox Jew in Florida (not the most liberal or tolerant environment) and when I was a kid I went to a jewish school where I was one of the more openly religious students because that’s how my father’s side of the family was. My mother’s parents, however, were holocaust survivors (really though, not like George Santos’ family). Due to the experiences they had fleeing nazi Germany during the rise in antisemitism they always told me to hide my Star of David necklace under my shirt and I thought they were overreacting. Then I went to a public high school (2002-2006) and there were people who didn’t know my name but knew me as “the Jew” and I even had another student who was a “proud god-loving Christian” get right in my face and tell me they could “see hell in my eyes” because I was Jewish. So, in short, this isn’t a new issue for us. People just have less shame about being terrible to others who don’t have the same ideals.

As Dave Chappell said it “If they’re black it’s a gang, I’d they’re Italian it’s the Mafia, if they’re Jewish it’s a coincidence”. No problem with regular Jewish people tho. Although, I do live in predominately Jewish neighborhood (with the hats and stuff) and they’re closed society. • @natsky8010
      @natsky8010 Před rokem +8

      @@mikegeorgiadis4593 First of all, it's not "Hebrew people". There are more Christian people "at the top of the top" than any other religion. There are royal muslim families who hold incredible wealth, there are extremely wealthy influencial and important people from literally every religion. You can be against them because they are wealth hoarding capitalists, but it has literally not a single thing to do with their religion. Saying that it's weird, suspicious or note worthy that there are wealthy Jewish people stinks of conspiracy theories. Why is it so weird to you?
      Dave Chapelle also said about antisemitism "It's okay to think it", so I would take anything from that dog-whistle filled monologue with a grain of salt.
      What exactly is "regular Jewish people"? Jewish people who hide their ethnicity? Who assimilate enough for your liking? Judaism is an ethnicity and it's a religion. Like any ethnicity, you can be Jewish and be completely secular. Like any religion, there are sects. Where you live is around Hassidic or Orthodox Jewish people. They keep to themselves because they lead a specific lifestyle with specific norms and rules that are very strict. And as such, they don't assimilate. So of course they will put their community first. Like any other hyper religious community will put their community first. Judaism is a closed practice, and as such ultra religious Jewish people will not proselytize and they will stay within their own community. Much like the Amish, the Mormon, etc. But if you turn to a synagogue in a crisis, you will not be turned away.

In the last 4 years we went from having just an Armed Guard for the High Holidays (already something that never should have been normal to see). To One for every service. The new addition to the Synagogue having metal detectors and Blast and Bullet resistant doors. As the Original entry way was sealed to make it harder to reach to sanctuary. I realized if I had been religious, I likely could have been there and if not physically injured or dead, deeply traumatized. I also noticed that celebrities can now say more antisemitic comments without the same unilateral backlash as they used to get. In fact I almost never heard them at all, whereas now it feels frequent. So there has definitely been a change since childhood though I believe a lot of that can be attributed to my awareness and geographic location rather than just an outright increase. It's a little bit scary at times for me but I also recognize I don't live in nearly the same level of fear as other minorites.

To say that it is alarming is an understatement. It's downright terrifying. I have lived in Memphis Tennessee for most of my life. I never experienced antisemitism my entire time going to school. The teens that I teach at my synagogue are dealing with hateful antisemitic comments and teachers daily. They talk about their own friends saying hurtful things that they just have to laugh off in order to not be seen as a killjoy. They deal with some teachers who give them extra work over Jewish holidays (that you can't work during) and pick on them IN CLASS in front of other students because they are Jewish. Thats not even getting into the ramped-up security at every synagogue in town, or the weekly meetings between our leadership and the FBI every time someone makes a threat online. That's just in my small city. What's happening in places like LA and New York are terrifying.
    I'm thankful for every non-Jewish person who brings up the issue because when we do it people think we're being alarmist. But we're not. They probably do that to minimize other people getting harmed as they are going to use force to take him off.

    That Demi Lovato story is just their label's publicity team using that to promote the album. It is common practice across all advert agencies, and companies which have adverts placed in their spaces (motorways, shopping centres, the underground and buses) to have rules against swear words, obscenity, and offensive religious imagery on posters in public spaces. When posters have potentially offensive content on them but aren't necessarily a blanket 'no' from the company selling the advert space, the marketing team at a label will be told that they can pay to put the advert up, however if there are any complaints the posters will be taken down immediately and they can't recoup the money. In some of those instances the publicity team might want to risk losing the marketing (the posters) if they can spin it into a huge story through publicity (like in this case). This happens more regularly than we would expect, across adverts for albums, films, tv shows, perfumes, underwear, and so on. The marketing team at Demi's label knew that that album poster had a chance of being banned and they almost certainly went ahead with it hoping it would get banned. It's a well known tactic and everyone in marketing and publicity who pay for outdoor marketing materials is well aware of this tactic.

      He pretended to be asleep so he wouldn't have to put his seatbelt on. When the flight attendant told him he would have to, he decided to throw a wittle baby fit. Him choosing not to comply meant everyone had to leave the plane. He said he didn't care and yelled at everyone else on their way out. He was a huge asshole and inconvenienced everyone because of his enormous ego.

      What I don't understand is why they couldn't just throw him off by himself instead of deplaning everyone. Phil said it was due to a policy, but that sounds like an insane policy. It certainly doesn't seem to be the norm for other kinds of unruly passenger behavior.

    • @Nevertoleave
      @Nevertoleave Před rokem +3

      @@Miralityaybe it’s so if the one person won’t leave they can get a new plane and just take everyone else?
      Or maybe just so if that one person becomes dangerous they don’t have to worry about others getting hurt

    • @Mirality
      @Mirality Před rokem +1

      That still makes no sense though. It takes a lot longer to deplane everyone else, meanwhile the unruly passenger is just sitting there watching and taunting. If he had been physically violent, this would have just allowed him to be violent to everyone on the plane instead of just a few. Instead he was just mentally violent to them all.
      I can understand the flight attendants not wanting a physical altercation, but that's why you call the airport police and they do it. That's literally their job. It still inconveniences people a bit waiting for them to arrive, but that's a lot less inconvenient than having to reboard.
