      Please talk about the chaos going on in Westminster that's causing mass fatalities across the UK right now. Instead of appropriate funding for the NHS the prime minister wants to take action that would make strikes illegal instead.
      The leading Tory party are ignoring the problems affecting the whole union because of infighting, once again. Today they took action against the Tory whip who made antivax comments and wild holocaust comparisons, however he's still an MP earning +£100k yearly while the rest of the UK crumble under NHS underfunding and record inflation.

    Railworker here, the Amtrak crew should have stopped closer to a public crossing and told the dispatcher as much, but being that they were rerouted and had a very late train, they were probably trying to get the train as far as possible before stopping. All rail workers (excluding dispatchers) can only work for 12 hours straight, so that means that crew was working for 12 hours straight before stopping.

      Recently watched another video about how a 1970s "reform" has allowed freight rail owners to hold Amtrak captive as they cut down on rail essentials to increase profit margins on their biggest ticket freight types. One part is forcing passenger trains to wait for freight all the time. Another is pushing freight workers to work unreasonable hours etc., thus provoking the recent labor conflicts.

    • @joshmeyer8172
      @joshmeyer8172 Před rokem +30

      Okay, but then wasn't the crew also stranded? If the passengers weren't allowed to leave, then presumably neither were the crew. I kind of get it. At a certain point it's unsafe for a fatigued crew to continue to operate heavy machinery. But we're talking about a 20+ hour delay. It's unclear from the story how much of that delay was just waiting for the new crew, but wouldn't it have been a better outcome for all involved if the crew slept for 5 hours and then got the train moving again?

    • @isaacdevries4330
      @isaacdevries4330 Před rokem +20

      @@voicetest6019 as far as I’m aware (I work the freight side not passenger) you are supposed to call 3 hours in advance to your crew “dying” and then it’s up to the dispatcher, trainmaster, and crew to get the train to a good spot where they can get picked up

    • @isaacdevries4330
      @isaacdevries4330 Před rokem +21

      @@joshmeyer8172 the law says that all train crews can only work 12 hours a day with 10 hours of rest. The crew was stranded along with the passengers, but they cannot legally do anything until a new crew arrives. Them just sleeping until they can work again would end up causing more of a delay than just waiting for a new crew. What caused the full delay was the reroute. They didn’t just go around like a detour on a highway, they probably went the complete wrong way just to get past the obstruction

Let me be the one to say that your hopeful wish that LSU will provide more security for the gymnasts and Livy personally will most likely never happen. We've made national news a few times now with how bad campus safety is and how poorly they've handled situations with SA in the past. Hell, we began this semester with like, 2 attempted kidnappings and a shooting. Last year there was a huge protest against LSU keeping professors and faculty members that protected someone with multiple SA allegations. Their usual course of action is to simply let things blow over w the media storm, then continue as usual. Its social media bro come on." I'd argue that expecting people to not criticize him over how he presented himself because it's "social media" is the actual brain-dead IQ play here. When you market yourself as a leader who gives good advice to better your life then of course people will expect you to live by what you preach. We're not talking about some random guy talking shit on the internet. This man intentionally built a following by marketing himself as something that his lawyer is now claiming he isn't. I understand having a healthy amount of skepticism towards public figures, but that doesn't absolve them of responsibility. The skepticism just makes it less surprising when it happens. In regards to the gas stove story, like others in the comments I think they should just be improved upon rather than replaced. Having grown up with them, and then being stuck with electric stoves after getting my own place, gas stoves are so much easier to cook on and adjust the heat for, not to mention the bonus of being able to use it even when the power goes out. Not to mention the issues I've had while using electric stoves, like the burner coils starting to smoke if the heat is set too high (despite having just cleaned them too), and them just being harder to thoroughly clean.
    And before the guy in the comments assuming nobody's ever heard of camping stoves makes an appearance, not everyone has a place or the room to store one, and if there's a long-term mass power outage, then everyone will likely be thinking the same thing and be trying to get one or the fuel for it, making it difficult or impossible for others to get ahold of one. There's even the possibility of scalpers just buying them and then jacking up the prices for everything, which is just even worse.

They ran out of water, food, and though my mother had paid for a shower, no access to hot water. The problem being that the hot water heaters are from the 1950's according to an employee. They gave us hell over the speakers, served me rancid food, and was frankly the worst service I've ever experienced. They literally berated us saying, "Because you guys ate all the food." In a unbelievably sarcastic voice over the loud speakers. They stopped in the desert, leaving us to the heat and no way to open a window for air. Felt like being in a car with the windows up left in the sun. We couldn't even charge our phones to pass the time. We nearly ran out of water for formula for my baby, as I couldn't produce enough to feed him. As we approached California, they entered our room without any notice, my mother and I in our underwear to cope with the heat, and woke us minutes before our stop leaving us frantic to get dressed and get our things together at 3 am. Even when we manged to finally get to our destination, they wouldnt tell us where to go or even where to pick up our luggage. The increased threat of sexual harassment and assault for a start, but also the feelings driving the fandom can be a bit different.
      A lot of girls that freak out and cry over boy bands exhibit similar stalker behavior (as do fanatics of any person in general) but there's a difference in communal tone.
      They can be very protective of their idols, deeply valuing their attention and judgment. If their idols ask them to stop or scold them, all but the most unhinged will defer and feel shame for letting their idols down. They want their affection reciprocated. Not to be rejected.
      Meanwhile, male fans of women, especially ones they're drawn to primarily for physical reasons rather than as genuine fans of their talents, tend to be demanding in a way that implies personal ownership.
      They're more likely to disregard her boundaries and to become antagonistic or dismissive when she voices discontent with their behavior because they "want her" so who cares what she thinks?
      Even relatively "good" dudes will engage in that behavior for peer validation, which still revolves around things like violence and domination for males too often.
      What those boys were like in that video seems like fans just being fans on the surface, but that's a snapshot of what male/female dynamics evolve into as adults, and why the average woman fears men far more than the other way around pretty much everywhere on Earth.
      "You're not her but you'll do" = "You're not the girl I want but you're still a girl I can take if I want"
      It's all fun and games when it's just screaming into a camera and jumping around in a crowd, but you don't want to know how often that fun turns into a grab then a grope then worse, all while the laughter and shouts continue.
      The more we fail to address that difference as early as possible because we'd rather pretend it doesn't exist or wave it off as youthful stupidity, the more dickdrips we'll have to keep dealing with as adults who think a woman's harassment isn't a big deal because "if she didn't want that to happen, she shouldn't have (insert anything)".
      These are just generalizations. There are always exceptions to every pattern, every rule. Just saying.

    As someone who actually likes to cook, electric and induction stoves can actually be really limiting. You get much more control with gas. The main problem is electric takes longer to heat up and cool down (there are some dishes that require turning temp down from high to low quickly), and induction is way too finicky.

      We've had an induction stovetop for more than 10 years and this is patently false. Induction heats up more efficiently than anything else and doesn't result in spillover heat like gas does, because most of the heat from a gas top just goes into the air, not the thing you're trying to heat up. It's also well known that gas just leaks. Also induction gives you more control than gas. Heating coils is NOT induction, they are very different things. We used to have a coil heated stove top, those are bad, induction is amazing. Don't get them confused.

    Not the first time something like that has happened on Amtrak. In 2014 I was taking the train down to Houston from St Louis. It generally takes 20ish hours, so I boarded the afternoon two days before my sister's graduation. In the night there was a sudden slow down, it was pitch black outside so none of the passengers were able to see why we stopped. Hours later the conductor let us know that a tree fell into the tracks meaning we had to wait for a team to show up and clear it. 6 hours later we were on our way.
    Later into the morning we stopped again. The conductor let us know that the front of the train derailed. So we waited into the afternoon to be told it wouldn't be possible to get back on the tracks and we would be bussed to the next Amtrak station. By this time news stations had showed up and were interviewing passengers through the smoking car window, as we were not allowed to get off the train. Lone travelers started to form groups for smoking, drinking, cards, and the kitchen car was running out of beer to purchase.
    We had to wait 3 more hours for the busses to arrive, then unboard with all of our luggage and onto several tour busses. It was about 3-4 hours before we were dropped off at another station in North Texas in the middle of the night. We eventually boarded another bus that took us a few more hours to Houston. I arrived the night before my sister's graduation. I remember being so hungry and the only thing open was IHOP. It was midnight and I'd never been so happy to see over fried chicken and box mix batter waffles on a plastic plate.

    As someone who likes to cook, gas is far better to cook with than electric. The amount of control and precision for temperatures is much easier to get with gas. It can take like 15 min to warm up the element and then another 30 to cool down which is frustrating since some dishes require you to lower the temp on the fly while cooking. Impossible to do with an electric stove unless I had 2 elements going and one pre preheated with a lower temp lol. Now as for induction, I haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet so I cannot say. And on top of that, the costs of running an electric over gas is a whole other deal

    I'm an ex Elite gymnast from my country I competed internationally for ~4 years until I switched to fencing competitively-which I did mainly for my mental health due to being body shamed for being so pale my skin is see thru and there are veins everywhere and I'm a freckled ginger, _and I refused to tan myself and become something I'm not,_ but it was mainly because, despite it being out of my control, I grew really tall for an artistic gymnast (168cm, which is 5ft 6.5 inches) and despite weighing 50kg and being what felt like 100% muscle lol, I wore E-cup bras. And I went thru puberty really quickly too, so I had stretchmarks on my legs. This was all so much of an issue due to the fact that we HAD to wear such skimpy leos and even with 3 bras on and even a compression top for trans guys (well, what was available back in the late 00's early 10's, anyway), I was mercilessly mocked for those things that got in my head and, ngl, damaged me pretty deeply. I chose fencing, not just because I was good at it, but because it _covered me up._
    In fencing, even tho I was the only girl on a team of boys, I felt less objectified there than I had done by every single person I knew or worked with whilst doing AG... who were all women or girls like me.
    Re Livvy's fans and stresses due to exposure on social media, even at her age which is "old" for kids who are on socials now (especially compared with those baby, toddler, tween etc accounts that creep me tf out!!) so theoretically I'm sure some people say she is old enough to be well known etc, but people forget that it's only the REALLY famous people who get body guards and security and stuff. And yes, I know what I am talking about because this is, in fact, coming from someone (me) who WAS well known as a child model and actor (I did my last well-known gig at 19ish? done some small stuff since but mainly just extra/cameo work, print ads, etc, cos I got a real job), and I am someone who never really considered herself a "famous" person, but I am still fairly well-known, even as an adult, funnily enough and, despite being SIX in my biggest role, I honestly still get recognised like once or twice a month for my work, more if it's been rerun or when it went on a streaming service lol...
    To give you all some sense of my "fame" or whatever you'd call it, I've been in at least 3 films that I'm 100% sure at least 80% of the people reading this have seen me in (and no, I'm not sharing what my stage name was because I don't want to, ok??). And yet, despite all this, I was just famous enough that I was bullied mercilessly, and my time on early facebook, despite my acting/modelling work, and my competence and achievements in AG. In the infancy of the true social medias of facebook and twitter etc, it was bad enough for me, and I seriously cannot emphasisehow awful it must be to have SO many people know you, and still be expected to show up and live a normal life. I know that, from the clips shown, it looks like she has only just fans, all happy to see her! But if you've never experienced it, you have no idea how embarrassing, humiliating and how potentially triggering it can feel, and how it actually seems like they are all laughing at you, judging you, and waiting only for you to fail. The small amount of negative, rude, upsetting people makes it seem like EVERYONE hares you, and I _CANNOT IMAGINE_ growing up and having had to do all that in today's social media environment, because _everything is 10000x worse on socia. media, good and bad._.
    I'm now almost 30 and, as humiliating it is to admit, I have never ever dated or even been kissed, which I mainly think is due to some of the deep psychological trauma, disordered eating and self-image issues the first 15 years of my life in acting, modelling sure-but MOSTLY gymnastics-taught me, and now, having had to be on a massive range of different meds due to the early onset osteo arthritis in my shoulders and knees at 20, which was exacerbated by my cEDS hypermobility & pain, and then degenerated and contributed to the onset of rheumatoid arthritis at 26, all of which has helped me to basically double my body-weight, as in the last 19 months I've blown up to almost 100kg, which can only be due to being on super high levels of steroids (which I've been kff for 6 months but because I was on them for 18 months nothing yet has changed), and the fact that, of the 15 meds I'm on, 3 -6 of those meds other than steroids (mostly to control the various issues I've developed that all stem from what I put myself thru doing AG) have the side effect of rapid and large amounts of weight gain (which no one told me would be this bad). I have obsessively tracked my eating since primary school, yet I now, (somehow), eat half as much as I did at 15, and I can barely even eat at all due to the stomach partial paralysis (gastroparesis). But because the only foods Indon't throw up are basically sjmple carbs and sugar, I think must just be the calories and type of foods I am now limited to, where up till recently I ate super healghily my entire life.
    On top of the diet and mental health issues, I have needed a full TMJ jaw replacement on my left side for almost 5 years, that causes me so much pain I tried to unalive myself in 2020, and I will never be able to afford the $60k needed for the surgery, because "kind of only a but famous" didn't make much (if any) money at all, as I was a child. I was medically retired a few years ago due to RA and my jaw issues, and because I don't want to e-beg I am limited to a sickness benefit (which I am SO glad to have access to in my country). The jaw issues were caused mainly due to repeated jaw dislocations, damage/landing injuries and clenching due to stress. Six of my front teeth smashed when I was 8, in another AG accident, and they should've been re-crowned almost ten years ago, yet another thing I sacrificed to AG and will never be able to afford. I'm in so much pain all the time, and a few years ago it was so uncontrolled and bad that I started stealing my dad's prescription opiates because mine weren't enough (turns out a little metabolism mutation means I only metabolise 25% of opiates that normal people do, so I need 3x to 4x as much for it to help and work, but even showing them my genetic study didn't help), but that was the point I was finally got onto methadone for the pain by playing up the "med abuse" side of things, as that is the only way to access methadone in my country, and it sounds stupid but it's been such a blessing for my unrelenting pain and it has greatly improved my life recently (aside from the excess weight gain).
    I could go on, but I've already written a novel and a half, so I think my point is made. I have so much sympathy for Livvy and I hope this calms and brings her opportunities in abundance, without the downsides fame carries along with it, as well as the physical toll og AG itself, and I oray for her happiness, instead of the heartache and what seems to be now lifelong unhappiness that I got, but we all have our journeys (or whatever) and gym in general is really rough on the body, let alone how competitive, elite can also bring emotionally draining, depression, stress, anxiety, and social isolation, etc. I hope she is ok, and I really hope she stays safe out there. ❤

On top of that, how would it at all be safe to have a for profit power company suddenly have authority over every bill in your home save rent and car insurance? Instantly gets food hotter and faster... It's efficient because it heats the food and not the whole oven! You can touch it right after the water's boiling for your tea, and it's still cool to the touch... and...And...AND....
      In the mid-80's, my father said, "There's no conceivable way this thing is that much more efficient at heating water than a pot on the stove. It just gets too hot too quick to be anything but power hungry."
      AND you know what happened??? About 15 or so years later, it started in a small technical magazine (when we still had those to read) and someone pointed out that less power got consumed heating food on the stovetop than in a microwave oven on average... and by the early 2000's that little tid-bit of information was everywhere...
      Now, on a gas burner, depending on how you set it, you CAN heat an awful lot of water VERY quickly, compared to even the best resistance-type heating elements in every water heater and on every stove-eye... AND yeah, there's an accounting to be made for the CO and CO2 produced directly when you do that...
      AND these Induction stoves DO heat pretty incredibly quick... They seem to either stay cool (relatively) in comparison to the old resistance "eyes" or they get cool quickly, too... BUT pardon the hell out of me if I'm a tad skeptical. When I've seen over and over and over how it takes kilowatts to heat so much water or food at once, I'm going to have to back up and wonder if this induction-thing is really as understood as we (humans) think it is... OR if clever marketing is just using that same old "touch the inside of your microwave after heating food, and then JUST TRY THAT with your old-school electric oven... thing...
      Watts, that unit by which we measure and buy or sell electricity is HEAT... There's a very specific rate of putting degrees INTO a volum of water to achieve the equivalent of one WATT... similar to a BTU or a Joule if you wish to go that route. LOTS of ways to measure the same thing, but that's simply applying direct "Power" via electricity... AND when it works very easily with gas, I can't blame people for preferring their gas stoves... Consider the recent events where people have struggled to even get or keep lights on in their houses, and I'm going to have to advise at LEAST keeping a few heating and cooking options available WITH gas, whether that's natural, propane, butane, methane, or even Camp-Stove white gas or gasoline... Obviously BE DAMN CAREFUL, but with adequate ventilation where it counts, the PEOPLE in the equation have no need to be freezing or starving to death, and the electric "Gurus" of the world can get their shit together and put out a power-system that's RELIABLE before bitching at me like I'm the one single-handedly destroying the earth...
      Which is a flat-out lie from get-go to finish. Those corporations who sold you on "go green" have done more irreparable harm to this planet than they can possibly EVER balance out in doing good. Remember that. ;o)

It's so much easier to cook with gas over electric or induction, you have more options when it comes to cheaper pots and pans, more options to cook in different ways without having to use a grill (charring veggies and certain type of bread that might benefit from charring). It's an overall cheaper option for most people and doing this will harm the pocket books of the demographic that this ban is stating it wants to help when it comes to asthmatic causing side effects of gas stoves.
