When I was pre-teen in Florida, houseboats were quite common. We used to hang out on my mom's friend's that had one and fish off the back of it and then cruise up and down the docks in the marina fishing around those boats. There was a seafood restaurant on site and any fish we caught, we sold to them. And then that years later got me a job working on the fishing boats that went out and actually fished, not netted or trawled, for fish for the restaurants there and that job got me a job on a small yacht teaching the owner how to fish, which led to jobs on bigger yachts and then being a deckhand on superyachts. All that from hanging out on a friends houseboat.
That's awesome! 😃
Do you remember the film 'Houseboat' with Sophia Loren and Cary Grant?
You weren't perchance on the St. John's River near Doctor's Inlet, were you? I think the closer one got to Palatka, the more houseboats were to be seen. Great life, I imagine!
@@daddiospatio No this was in Pasadena, Florida near St.Petersburg and Clearwater. Yachting took place in Ft.Lauderdale, Palm Beach and then when I worked on a charter fishing boat that went to Mexico, that was out of Marco Island I did work in the St.John's River area for a while though. I love it up there. Lake George and Fleming Island I love. Mandarin Station and then Ormond Beach. I almost moved to Ocoee a few years ago. I like the northern part of Central Florida. Unless you live here, most people don't get that.
I love that this channel is open to give a tour of anything that floats, and do it well!
For first time buyers that don`t suffer from sea sickness... Absolutely awesome first home. Love the garden.
I quite like this, its is nicely finished and spacious. I could definitely live on it in the right location. Nice to have a different type of tour Nick thank you.
Glad you like it! Something a bit different for the channel 🙂
Throughout the British Columbia (Canada) coastline amongst well sheltered bays, house boats are quiet common. Living in spacious accommodations off grid, with floating gardens it is a tranquil lifestyle that one occasionally envies. Some areas have a boat service to take the kids to school and back. Brilliant, I love it when your nabbed for a surprise video tour.
What a lovely boathouse 🛥🚤⛵️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow, a houseboat on Aquaholics? Nice!
Something a bit different for the channel 🙂
What a great idea.
Love it that you show Houseboats. Hope you can show some more. 😊
Thanks for showing something different. I wouldn't mind living on this "yacht".
And I love the jet ski. ;)
Nice! Just a bit surprised that the owner opted for a small, low fridge, when there's so much space. I would've gone for a full-height fridge freezer combo.
Always wanted to live on a houseboat, this is quite bright and roomy!!
I've been looking at some of these and its a great option. Some of them made on the states are crazy awesome. The newer models are even more impressive. Thank you Nick.
You're very welcome! 🙂
This was a very nice Friday lunch-time surprise!
Perfect holiday rental
Amazing quality, value and size when compared to flats. Needs water / black water management hence needing to be in a marina but annual costings would be interesting.
Dutch cities are full of these kinds of floating boxes for people to live in, alongside the more traditional houseboats. Most of them have a concrete hull and a wooden superstructure. They tow them into place and hook them up to utilities and then you basically live on it as you would in a normal house.
like a static caravan on the water. wonder how much the mooring rent is per year .
I heard someone talk about house boats a couple of years ago but I never properly looked into them. Yet it is a great concept with acres of space and is great if you wanted to spend time on the water but have the comfort of a home! Great tour as always thanks Nick!
That is!
Exactly. That is all you will get for £175,00 these days and don't forget the mooring fees!
Would it have made sense to put both bedrooms across the rear of the boat. You would still have been able to get 5 ft beds in both. The rear balcony could have folded flat around the outboard when needed and been accessible from the upper deck, with a ladder?
Nice to see we are finally doing what the Dutch have been doing since the 70's and 80's.
Dude that boat has more room than my apartment. And nicer. Good work Nick. The grass on the top deck is hilarious.
Love these Nick……. as a child we used to spend quiet seasons at Bell Boats in Brundall, based in a houseboat, pocket money antifouling the hire boats, cadging rides on Moonrakers or Aquabells…… or rowing up to the shop for errands…… a few years back I took the four of us on a mystery break to Horning on the broads, to stay on another houseboat…… great times 🙂
Floating is the key…….. even tied up 😎
Your narration is always top notch.. you can make a row boat seem unique
Different and cool thanks for the tour Nick
Something a bit different for the channel 🙂
Very nice,
Whatever floats your boat - unless your boat is a Float 8, then you've already done it. And done it without the mystique of hitting your head or bumping a knee on an unexpected protrusion put in your path by the confines of a boat shaped boat - that's NOT this. Each room is devoid of the oddities of maritime rules concerning the scarcity of space. This is a boat built for comfortable bobbing, tied to the pier of your choice. The "roof" aka Flybridge Deck, is a playground for the child-like mind that lurks within us all - called FUN. Thanks Nick AND Float 8.
Great idea and if moorings are a reasonable price, would be a great alternative to an apartment BUT seeing some of the showers on yachts and motor homes you've shown us, I 'm sure they could have done much better than a a "leg wrap around" shower curtain.
Great little houseboat! thanks for sharing!!👍👍😃😃👊👊
Thanks for watching!
@@AQUAHOLIC 👍👍
Nice tour. Would love it if you could find/do a "meet the owners" of a liveaboard situation as I find that lifestyle very interesting and would like to learn more about it.
@3:54 Actually Nick, that is a real'ish jetski, it just happens to be an inflatable one, only does about 2 mph, runs for an hour and is rechargable.
Love it
These floating cubes have so much potential. I'm sure you can really let your imagination run wild with this.
Absolutely Love it Nick !!!
I feel like they're missing a trick by not putting a downstairs on it, but not bad for the money. St Katherines docks is great as well, there's a really nice tapas restaurant just across from there!
Love the variety you tour, so many other than the Princess line.
I saw this last week when i was on vacation in London.... Awesome
Finally, a live onboard I can afford. This is Me!!
wicked cool! thanks Nick!
I've never seen anything like that, I love the garden!
You will need to get one of these and live right next to Smugglers Blues 2. Makes getting to the boat so much easier.
So it's a floating caravan. What are the mooring, plus other costs?
Fantastic for the weekends and short holyday's.
Great video and interesting topic. As always.
Perfect for sea level rises. Nice little house boat. Thanks Nick, 👍. Haha inflatable jet-ski I hope it doesn't blow away 😀
Incredible way to live on the water ⚓️🛟🚢
Yes I like the concept. Need a nice river mooring. Broads maybe.
If you lived in British Columbia interior near the Okanoggan, Kootanies or Shuswap lakes then houseboat is a summer tradition for generations. You can even rent these boats if you have a boating licence. If you have a Good Peter camp club membership, you get rental discounts on these houseboats in BC
Yeah ,but Nick, we still have to throw in range stats....are we talking meters or kilometers ? Cruising speed...can we out run a duck ? Bow thrusters... are they just paddles ? We have to stick with the format, here.
😄
I've always thought that if I won the lottery that I'd buy a little, down on its luck marina. Then I'd install floating docks, give everything a facelift, build a clubhouse and nice restaurant/lounge, and put either something like a canalboat or something like this in the slips and rent them as floating apartments. With the way rent prices are going, over a 20 year lifespan, these would pay for themselves within 12-15 years or so depending on the amount of rent charged.
Hi Nick. Perfect for living in Chelsea on the thames and much bigger than a flat. That's a cool liveaboard. Thanks 😊
Absolutely nice
Fantastic idea!
brilliant, i love it! thank you uncle Nick!
My pleasure!
Nice great idea out of the box
Wonderful, man does not live on yachts alone. Maravilloso, no solo de barcos vive el hombre 💙
Hi, fully up for that if one wishes to send the summer pottering around , much cheaper than a beach hut on Mudeford split . With a proper steering up front the horizon could be the next mooring . Nice one Nick .🤔😁
Nice to see you wear same Kyboot shoes as one of your grateful subscribers, Sir. Class in itself 👔
Very nice looking Houseboat! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
A great little London bolt hole…I shudder to think how much the mooring fees would be though !!
Nick, you would likely have seen [house]boats like this that are moored in pockets of south Florida. Also very common - altho' usually bigger - in parts of Seattle WA. When we spent two winters at St. Kat's, we found moorage to be inexpensive, a Safeway was 100m away, and there we were...in the heart of London! Great use for this kind of 'boat'.
Myself and some US based friends hired something similar in the USA. That, however, had helm and flybridge, three cabins and a proper kitchen / diner
I’d take one. Now for me I just need to find a 4 season marina. Not many of rose in Ontario 🇨🇦
Frenchman's Bay...there are 12 month live aboards there. Bubbler system to prevent water freezing.
Might struggle to get that up to planing speed Nick 😉🤣 Plenty of calm waters where that would make for a very comfortable live-aboard. 👍👍
I quite like that actually. Yeah it can't be moved much but if you want to just sit and chill for months on end then you can in comfort with that
Great video from the old man of the sea
Hi Nick, and thank you for this nice show, somethink diffrend this time it looks like a dutch Woonboot { houseboat } only those are made mostly out of a concrete tank and then a little bigger and see them a lot in the ducht channals and canals nice from you to do a show like this time thanks again Nick a great one
You can rent these on many lakes in America, Lake Powell in Utah has them and we rented one in the 1980’s at Shasta Lake. What we did, was travel to a cove and dragged a couple of ski boats, then you went about the lake skiing and used the houseboat as a home base. It was a great time and common here at many lakes. Many have them docked at lakes and use them like a cabin at certain lakes.
More of these tours please!!
now this can solve the house problems we have here in Holland, whe got plenty of canal's and lakes where you can live in sutch a nice houseboat !!!
You’re a legend
Nice flybridge.. flydeck? Skybridgedeckthing... Sweet floating home, for sure! Cheers!
Nick, if you ever come back to the United States, you should consider coming to Monticello, KY near Lake Cumberland, which many call the houseboat capital of the world. Many of the houseboats are incredible.
I would happily live on this
These types of "Craft" are big business on lakes, resevoirs and rivers in the US! Very popular!
Putting green, fab.
These types of "houseboats" as we call them, have been quite popular for decades here in Canada ad the U.S., primarily on inland waterways . However, they are outfitted with proper motors, usually a stern drive or larger outboard, and both interior and bridge helm stations. Rented one for a couple of summers on our Trent-Severn waterway in Ontario and it was great fun.
Excellent video.
It's nice to see something different.
House boats are super popular in US on the Ozarks and on Lake Powell in Utah!
Love the idea, wish the interior had more of the luxury feel you get in a nice boat, but I suppose that could be done for a few extra ££
It’s brilliant
Different 🤔 thanks Nick 👍
Ah, wish I’d known you were here! I live right around the corner from the Docks!
Aloha; quite cute! We'd change the floorplan a wee bit - personal taste - but can see us on the Thames! Mahalo
🙏 I will like to see more videos of houseboat
it's pretty neat, what really caught my eye was the recliners with little shades on 'em, how cool are they? thanks for showing us this, cheers nick!
Thanks for watching!
like to see more of these, thanks
that outboard propeller idea could easily be improved upon with a little flybridge system up top connected to the outboard, which they will probably get to eventually but I would hate to be the first edition owner who has to maneuver that thing with someone screaming at them from up top.
I think Nick mentioned a camera system is installed as standard.
A decent quality reverse camera mounted to the front would kind of suffice for the limited times it would be moved about.
I live in Amsterdam, the capitol of house boats.
Thus one is nice, with nice materials and a huge sun deck.
However, the kitchen is more of a smal gally, the bedrooms are square but size wise they still are cabins.
And shower curtains, really?
Its all down to size I would imagine, The Netherlands has house boats double and triple this size, even with three full "decks".
For its size though, excellent, very well thought out and the sun deck is iust fantastic, I really love that.
Very nice.
Hi Nick, This was a nice intro to houseboating, however there are some far superior designs in Oz that feature steering, dining area and a host of other features that this seems to lack. For those floaters not boaters it could work.
Nice one 😊
Amazing!!
US houseboats are quite impressive, 100x20 they don't have the outside trim of a yacht, but just as luxurious and space by the bucket.
Nick, if you ever get back to the US, you ought to make a trip through the Lake Cumberland area of Kentucky, known as "The Houseboat Capital of the World".
Loved it. The shattered window gives a hint about trying to steer the thing though! If only they had some place to moor these on the southwest coast...I'd definitely get one.
Great spot! I didn't even notice it 2:28
@@olivergriffiths4445 I have to admit I only saw it when I was there, because someone had mentioned it was damaged. Hard to see in the vid. 🙂 We also missed the big sign saying where to board...
This is a very cool concept indeed. I would love to see what can they do once a bit of blue-sky thinking is involved, though.
This and the rest of their current ranges seem to be designed very specifically to comply with "chained-to-mainland" uses and their associated regulations.
Nice and quaint... btw its an inflatable jetski for kids and really moves
Love All of your content🙂 love All the high end boats/ships. But more from the cheaper range would be exiting as well👍💪
Great option if you want to live on the water and can find the right mooring, which I suspect would be the tricky part for 365 days a year.
Holiday home or Air BnB could be a winner though!
That's a first, very nice too. 👍❤️🇬🇧
Something a bit different for the channel 🙂
