  • Witness the incredible moment when our Highland cow, Blue, gives birth to her second calf, captured in stunning 4K resolution! 🌟
    After trying all year to catch this amazing event, we finally succeeded with our 4th calf of the year. In this video, you'll see just how quickly and smoothly Highland cattle can calve, often without needing any assistance.
    Highland cattle are a fantastic breed to raise, known for their resilience and natural birthing abilities. In this video, you'll notice the sack still intact and only one hoof visible when we realized the birth was happening. It’s a truly remarkable experience that showcases the natural beauty and strength of these animals.

      Me too they are great. I was giving it a moment to see if it would right itself and didn't want to startle the mom. All went well though. 🙂

      I thought the same thing, wanted to give him a moment to see if he would correct himself. Then offer a bit of assistance. Glad all went well.

    I am grateful that I can simply watch this amazing birth of life from home.. Why does the mother cattle re-ingest the placenta?

    • @fauveride
      @fauveride Před 4 měsíci +1

      I did some research and found that many animals do this to replenish the nutrients they gave to their babies during pregnancy. It's amazing nature.

      @@fauveride I think it is also a way of hiding the birth from predators.

      That and it helps to hide the newborn from possible predators. Thanks for the comment, I was so glad to be able to present for the birth and be able to share it with others. 🙂

      For sure. I've had problem births twice before, so I get a bit concerned until I know the baby is presented right. Was able to save the baby and mom both times, but I still get a bit worried. Usually I seem to miss the birth by just a little bit, probably a blessing as there is no stress then. 🙂
