You hypocrites bash the men but give the women a free ride! She is horrible! That hold on the horses head is abuse! She deserves to be charged with animal abuse!!
You should update your judging requirements to comply with the facts available for Equine welfare. If it breaks the code, it should be excused and not placed, let alone praised.
Hyperflexion should be auto eliminated imo as should any horse showing consistent grimace scale signs.
This was not the worst run but still has some concerns with
-stress eye + whale eye
- chomping bit
- flat chin
- ear set
If you believe differently, then I suggest you educate the public on any conflicting information you have to address concerns or misinformation
I don't enjoy it thanks.

This horse is incredible,he has such presence!
When the announcer is quiet for most of the test, you know they're doing well! ❤ Great job Charlotte!
wow, Imhotep can move his jaws unlike many others who are so clamped down with the crank nosebands... Thanks Charlotte, we of the Horse First community appreciate that.
Charlotte is a real champion, and her horse has not only the name of a pharaoh, he is a real king. 👍🎄
Imhotep was a vizier not a pharaoh.
@@molybdomancer195 yes, You're right, he was even more, they named him a God, because he was medico, astrologo, physician, architect and engeneer, but not a pharaoh.🎄
I loved that! She's a lovely rider, her horses always look like they could go out hunting or eventing; I like her type of horse, they really give her their all in comps! Only happy horses do that and hers aren't hollowed out through the back and behind the poll, she's a great roll model for aspiring young riders and amazing ambassador of our country and GB equestrian.

What can I say, beautiful!!!! Bravo!
beautiful? absolutely horror! poor horse!
How the horse knows to walk one way before and during competition and as soon as it is over, walk normally!! Horses are underated in their intelligence. Lord knows how this is taught.
Years of careful muscle building and cues. Everything the horse does is a response to the rider’s cue. The real skill is making the cues so subtle as to be invisible.
Horses can read the mind of the rider, if they have one.
the little pat on 5:34 broke my heart 🩷 Charlotte is my inspiration of a quiet gentle rider, definitely Carl Hester is a great influence at holistic horse keeping, yet they do high level dressage. impressive! especially this horse id only 10 y.o., still a newbie in GP! they look nice together
Not trying to be rude but you cant put Charlotte and ,,gentle rider” in the same sentace. Shes the opposite of that.

Beautiful!! I sure do miss Valergo in these competitions but “Imhotep” is just as good🫶
You only have to look at his back to see how strong it is because hes working over his back correctly. She hasnt just pulled his head in.
He's 10 years old and this was his first show indoors i believe, so what if she has him a bit rounder than normal in some parts. She gives with her inside hand all the time and her curb rein isn't tight.
Well that was a great assesment.
Well said! Her horses move freely because they are free to do so. You can see the hind end jump into each stride because there is always a space to move into. She uses her body so well that her hands are often there only to "hold the gloves."

Very nice job.
Behind the vertical is now the norm sadly spectacular horse though
I was noticing that too! Why?
@@Fubar2024 they lost the definition of dressage. It's now about spectacular movements and round necks. And then Charlotte is actually one of the few that have the horse in a kind of okayish frame.
If you are judging the vertical as being along the front of the face, you are incorrect. The vertical line actually runs from the poll to the horses mouth. This means that the shape of the horse's head is going to influence whether the face is vertical or not. Even from this perspective, what you said is unfortunately accurate. In reference to this horse, I do not believe it holds true.
The horse and rider are both talented very much so
Not as bad as previous rider, Pete has a very relaxed tail
Magnificent! Brings tears to my eyes
Clearly the horse is enjoying it
Breath taking I would love to be there
Brilliant partnership again for Charlotte, so pleased for her, but everyone was impressive in this competition, tbh.
lovely, I just wish she opened the frame a bit more
Apparently this was his first big show indoors. I imagine she might have had him a bit rounder than normal.
His first indoor. So important for a young horse to have a positive experience. The frame seemed to have a good thundershirt effect. I loved seeing his tail go from obedient to relaxed to expressive.
From short in the neck to Orthopedic shoeing front and hind. And in between, an unhappy stressed athlete. He does not open his frame in the extended trot and canter. In the piaffe there is to much weight on his shoulder. Not my favorite.
Moody on Jagerbomb was great with that "Sexbomb" music. Always in a good frame, light in contact and in front of the vertical. 🤩🐴💫💯
Too short in the neck at the trot. Got much better through the test though.
The keys to correct shoeing are balance - side-to-side, medial-to-lateral, toe-to-heel, interior-to-posterior, and hoof pastern angles. We look at establishing and maintaining support so the horse's foot is underneath the center of gravity of the leg. That is what the goals are as far as what is correct for the horse," says Mark Martinelli, former farrier and now a DVM and orthopedic surgeon, University of Illinois.
Through careful assessment of a horse, a good farrier can provide the animal with shoes that enhance his movement and balance. "We promote or facilitate the movement," explains Martinelli, "that is, allowing the movement to occur as easily as possible for the entire leg, including the foot, as opposed to trying to stop and change that movement at the foot level."
Imhotep has a short neck period....

Surprised at comment's . Wondering if ppl. Criticize Western Style Events this way .
yes, all the time.
Absolutely
Yes the top trainers at the top levels in western and gaited horse disiplines are just as cruel and inhumane just to win. I have seen them tie a horses head up to the ceiling for hours so they would keep their heads down in their class. Have seen gaited horses with blocks on their feet to make them lift their legs higher up. As long as prestige and money are involved people will do anything to win at the horses agony and expense. I have even seen it at cattle work practices too. It never ceases to amaze me how cruelly some people treat such a noble animal.
Oh truly we all are abusers of our horses don't care for them right. I'm a State Champion and hear that and more. If my horses weren't taken care of right it be hard to win any event

It is not a compliment to be a qualified FEI judge these days. That train has left the station and you seem to be left behind.
when fei qualified judges start penalising for being behind the vertical we can start respecting them again, giving top marks to people with big names but underdeveloped horses is why the sport is in shambles. @@molybdomancer195

Of course its Charlotte and Imhotep they are beautiful to watch and I have much respect. I dont find this horse as electric or fancy as Glamourdale/ He seems to know his job and performs nicely but, for me just doesnt have the pizzazz. Just my opinion.
Glamourdale always looks rushed to me and never on a light contact or in true self carriage. He does have spectacular movement of course.

That horse looks cranked in and tight, not like it's stretching and lifted or enjoying itself. The piaff has a foot routinely has left on the ground? When did that become correct? Lot of riders do it now though.. They didn't used to and how many times exactly did the horse drop behind the vertical or look like it was about to fall on its face? And sorry not sorry, I never have liked this woman's hands. I cannot understand how she seems to keep doing better than Carl when he's a much nicer, better rider.

Just a query from an ignorant horse lover , but is that bouncing gait unnatural for a horse to maintain ? I’ve seen a horse bouncing around in short bursts !
The piaffe is a collected movement that is natural for horses, a correct piaffe the horse is collecting under itself and pushing from it's hind. The movement shown in tests recently isn't very natural for the horse however.
All movements in dressage are meant to benefit and develop a horses strength and muscle, but you won't see a whole lot in the grand prix ring. I recomend watching performances from the late 70's to 2000.
The free walk was more like a propper frame than loose rein/ free walk imo. I agree deathgrip on dressage horses is what it is. That said this is not the worst ive seen.
Would like to see changes in this sport. It would be better for the horse.
It's gotten to where I'm looking more for pain/ stress signs than anything else. The more I look the more i see.
I use to think of Dressage as a test of the bond and communication between horse and rider. Now...
That’s a lot of foam in his mouth! And I don’t care what excuse you have, that amount only comes from stress! And don’t say “he’s not” because NO ONE can understand what the horse is feeling. We can only interpret what we see. Yes sometimes it’s easier to interpret but sometimes, there are things that are just interpretations. And in some cases, they can be nerves and be having fun as well. Whether the horse likes to do this or not, the stress is there.
Yes she is holding him to tightley there should be some relese there hes way of movemant is being blocked.
This ride was unbeatable????? Gosh id hate to see what the rest were like. 😬
And how do you ride, I’d love to see you
Why do they all ride with a death grip on the reins, behind the bit ..it's aweful I don't watch anymore
and also so narrow ((
Maybe they will let the horses relax if the reins are slacker . That would never do.
It's creating a full body stiffness instead of collection and flowing beautiful movement. These horses would be far more beautiful to watch without pulling their mouths off.

As a hunter jumper rider in the USA, I find the way that these top dressage riders keep the horses’ chins tucked to their chests absolutely disgusting and unnatural. For those of you unfamiliar with hunter classes in the U.S., we do a course of jumps designed to look like natural obstacles one would find while out hunting. The horse is judged by its style of moving and jumping, as well as whether or not the strides in related distances were achieved correctly. Any aids given to the horse by the rider should be invisible. The whole point of hunters is to make the horse look as natural and easy to ride as possible, so the mildest bits possible are used, and the horses are allowed to carry their heads and necks in a natural position. You would NEVER see a horse in any level hunter class with its neck this rounded and its head cranked to its chest! We ENCOURAGE the horse to stretch out its neck and poke its nose out a bit. We want them to have their heads in front of the vertical and their necks in a relaxed, lower, natural position. Even in show jumping (which is an international sport, as is dressage), we do NOT want our horses’ muzzles bent behind its poll (aka behind the vertical) with its chin cranked to its chest. Show jumpers usually carry their heads higher than hunters naturally, but they aren’t forced into a frame of any kind. There is no way any horse could jump an obstacle with the super unnatural neck and head carriage I see at high level dressage. The horse needs the freedom to use its head and neck to jump. I have seen plenty of “lower level” dressage in which the horses were kept in a much less drastic frame; less curvature of the neck and the horses muzzles being in vertical alignment with -or even slightly in front of -their polls. This position would be MUCH more comfortable and healthy for the horse. I don’t see the need for the extreme head sets; horses are equally capable of performing high level movements such as piaffe and passage with a more natural frame. One of my best jumpers was a Dutch Warmblood who had a VERY good dressage education before he was imported to the U.S. I will never claim to be a dressage expert, but I managed to figure out how to do leg yields, half passes, canter pirouettes, and tempi changes on this horse, just as part of our flatwork sessions. Never once did I use anything other than a mild snaffle bit, nor did I ride him in this insane kind of frame! When my horse got a bit older and I decided that jumping was just too much stress for his senior body and legs, I leased him to a woman who rode dressage. She rode him beautifully and showed him successfully , and he never looked like he was in pain or even uncomfortable. So I know that it IS possible to ride dressage correctly without hurting the horses, and seeing this cruel method REWARDED by FEI judges makes me physically ill.
It's a wonder that the poor animalscan breath. Let go of the bloody reins?
I disagree about the "death grip" on the reins. The manoeuvres are so complex the horse would be confused and make errors if the reins were too loose. The contact with the horse has to be firm enough for clarity of intention, simple as. I think we can rely on Charlotte to know what she's doing, her results speak for themselves! ❤
The only difference between trot and passage is the speed. The animation is the same. There is nothing natural about the gaits. Just a wooden doll on strings. And the strings have been tight, super tight. How many inches are between the horses chin and the neck? Six? Does the horse take the rein when she releases the curb? No? Why? And why are the hands "scrubbing a bathroom"? Does she know they are connected to the metals surrounded by soft tissues? And why is the horse drooling so much? Can we hear his breathing? Why not? Questions, questions...
Do you need glasses? She. never uses the curb. !! She puts her hands forward to encourage self carriage.. All gaits in a dressage test are based on movements a horse naturally does in freedom. Trot and passage. are NOT the same. Educate yourself instead of trying to be clever. Yo're not.

You have quite an imagination.
People seem to think that the horse putting in any effort at all represents cruelty or something@@andtrrrot
How so? He at no time was resisting the bit. "All the bits"? There are only two, which he seems completely fine with! Not once did I see him opening his mouth. In fact, his lower lip was a bit loose, indicating a relaxed attitude, and his ears were also in relaxed mode. No tail swishing in annoyance. Not once did he give any indication of discomfort. Don't automatically assume a double bridle is a problem. If he was stiff in his neck, it would show up elsewhere in the body, as well. You don't get that kind of elevation in piaffe and passage with stiffness present.
You don't understand why the horse is foaming at the mouth do you? If a horse is tense their mouth dries out. The foam indicates it's mouth is relaxed and i the horse is working comfortably and correctly.
@senna9408Shouldn't it be,"tense?"

For intro level and I think prelim and novice too, you're to have instrumental music as words distract the judge. My horse very much enjoys his intro level freestyle far more than he enjoys the British Dressage intro tests. He always scores better in musicals.

With Valegro I liked her ridingstyle, but this is awful. Too short in the neck, this horse can't breath normal in this position and the horse is very restless in the mouth.
Horrible. So unnatural. Hurts to watch.
CRUEL!!N
Dressage seems pointless. The horses look tense, rigid and miserable. The riders are stiff as a board and staring straight ahead with pained expressions. Have we lost sight of horse and rider together as one….relaxed and enjoying each other and celebrating how well they work together. It’s painful to watch a highly constrained animal performing unnatural movements like a stiff piece of machinery…being pushed hard by a mannequin with hemorrhoids.
Horrible, whatever happened to horsemanship?
Animal cruelty. No-one who loves horses, or animals in general, would do this to them. A horse would never choose to do this, they are forced to by narcissistic, sadistic humans who want to boost their ego and their wallets. It's straight up torture and it's disgusting.

If you advocate the SLAUGHTER of sentient animals then my friend you haven’t anywhere to go. Actually my horse does piaffe by himself when he's cold. I have never taught him to do it.
@@Kat-mu8wq All dressage movements are natural for a horse. They are trained to execute them in dressage with a rider on.
Abuse
Dressage seems fluid and pretty but sorry to say dressage involves an incredibly torturous training and riding practice for the horse. THey are forced into a position that is not natural and is artificial. This is another event that needs to be changed along with 3 Day event for the horse sake. All my horses were free of all injuries all their lives but these competition horses are riddled with injuries and ailments all their lives. Comes from living an unnatural life. They can do all this without the restraints what a great idea. Time to move the dressage events into natural horsemanship instead of this artificially forced body restraints. I see alot of dressage horses wringing their tails which means they are not comfortable, irritated or are in pain. Many of them are not allowed outside of a stall or a small paddock most of their lives and that I have seen many times and have to be blanketed year round. What kind of life is that. I tried lessons in beginning dressage and some of the things that you are supposed to do are so artificial and so restrictive and goes against my knowledge of a light touch horsemanship that I never went back and my horse was totally confused and not happy! I know it is an old disipline but that does not make all that the horse has to go thru the right thing. It is time for a change and stop making these beautiful animals so uncomfortable. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR ARGUMENT THESE HORSES ARE NOT HAPPY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE A REAL NATURAL HORSE!!!!!!!
Charlotte’s horses have free exercise in lovely green fields and they are hacked out as well. They do not work every day of the week.
Umm well you could say that about a dancer or a sportsperson. What a silly comment to make.
@@alicecopsey7789 I guess it’s different because a dancer or a sportsperson can choose to put themselves through the training or not.
