- We are at the western edge of the Loire Valley, in the Anjou region.
Welcome to Saumur, an ancient town once favored by French kings. Its château towers over the Loire river and white tufa stone façades of local buildings.
Saumur houses a world-famous French cavalry academy. A training center, it also hosts world-renowned horse shows by the "Cadre Noir."
Did we mention the delicious local wines?

❤My grandmother and her family were from Saumur. She was born 1900. They moved to Tours in About 1908. My Father was born in Tours. Thank you for this
I think this one raised the bar; it was perfect. I had to watch 3 times. Go Véro!
Go Ricky!!! Merci! :-)
Rewatched today. We love this town and enjoyed last October (2022). We love being educated by you. Merci
Historical & very charming town. Thanks for the tour.
Avec plaisir.
Great tour Vero. The buildings are always so interesting. So much workmanship goes into them. The Chateau and church are quite beautiful. Interesting history about the Protestants in this area. Thank you.
Thank you for joining me in Saumur, Debra.
@@francewithvero my pleasure indeed.
Qu'est qu'elle est belle notre région des pays de Loire arboré de ses châteaux 👌👌👌
Bonjour Véro!!!! Ça va? So wonderful to see you again! You have been very much missed! As usual a breath taking tour!
Bonjour. Ça va très bien, merci. I have been around and sharing more of France on social media (Facebook and Instagram.) You should join my adventures there too!
@@francewithvero merçi! I will make it a point to follow you in those places as well! 😘
Bonjour from Minnesota! Again you share a delightful visit, and again someplace I have visited. I loved the château and the abbey. The Plantagenets are my favorite part of English history, so I enjoy that part of the history of Anjou! Merci!
The Plantagenêts were a fascinating dynasty, I agree.
@@francewithvero Ooh! A caret (?) over the second e. I must remember that.
The tufa and slate are a good background to set off your colorful new frames :-) 🤓
It took a lot of work to convince the city of Saumur to re-do all their façades and rooftops, but they did just in time for the live tour, praise the Lord! ;-)
Thanks!
Merci beaucoup Ricky!
Very much appreciated! Loved it, especially the house with the tourelle (sp?). Merci beaucoup!!
Lots of beautiful buildings in Saumur, especially in the neighborhood around la rue du Temple. Thank you for joining me!
Merci Beaucoup Vero. Just catching up to this lovely video in Saumur! I laughed TOO HARD at your "that's a nice touch" comment :)
Ms Vero. You never disappoint! You are so lovely and informative! Continued success and wellness!
Merci beaucoup Nancy.
SO fabulous!!!! Another great tour with our best friend Vero. Had no knowledge of this area and now, after watching this stroll, would love to visit it. Thanks so much Vero
Avec plaisir Janet. Glad you enjoyed discovering Saumur.
Great walk! Not our first visit to Saumur but as with all your videos we learned a ton of new information! Thanks, Véro!
Happy you enjoyed some of my stories about Saumur!
A lovely tour and wonderful information. I was especially interested in hearing about Les Compagnons. I have read a little about them in a France Magazine and am very impressed that this program is still running and offers young people a chance to excel at a craft. How very French!!! Would be wonderful to have this available to more young people in the world. Thank you Vero!
Les Compagnons du Tour de France have been around for centuries, one of the oldest organizations in France in fact, even if it has evolved over time. They are not as well-known outside France but it's interesting to know part of their "Tour de France" can also be completed in other countries.
The extent of your knowledge is just amazing! Thanks for another wonderful tour!
Thank you very much.
What a beautiful tour, Vero. Merci beaucoup for sharing your incredible knowledge of history, architecture and culture in your beautiful Loire valley.

Is that the home of coco Chanel ? It’s an interesting town. Love love your history knowledge 😊! Merci beaucoup!
Yes MJ. Coco was born there. Her family didn’t stay there long though.
Sorry to miss the live tour but just enjoyed the replay. Interested to know if you can reach Saumur by train from Tours? Thanks for a lovely visit.
You can definitely reach Saumur by train from Tours. Count 45 minutes to 1 hour then a short walk into town.
Oooh, Saumur! My partner & I walked there from Angers along the GR3 in 2017, continuing on to Chinon during our week of vacation. We've been talking lately about how much we want to go back to this region of France and continue our journey à pied. How lovely to see Saumur under those blue skies. Merci, Véro!
It was a beautiful weekend in the Loire Valley. That makes all the difference in the world, but even then, Saumur deserves a visit... or several.
Got my time wrong again!
Et oui. Dommage. Fortunately, there's the replay :-)
if there was no war and disease we would already have ran out of sanity and time for are dumb existance. Tour guides need a pole camera or a drone. No real peeping of course. My freind took me to his family home there in 1977 would be hard to know it unless I walked every main wide street nothin across from them Casademont
Very nice! I hope to see more French town walks from you!
Plenty of virtual adventures to follow on this Channel. Have you checked them out yet?
