    The key advantage of the Kobalt QuietTech compressor is in the name. It is bloomin' quiet! I was looking at the McGraw, bought one of the Menard's 15gal compressors that was 225psi and supposedly only 78dB, and returned it to get the Kobalt since I keep the compressor in the same area I work on cars. The difference in volume is amazing! I can carry on a conversation in a normal voice while standing right next to the compressor. Plus, it has a 3-year warranty, and 4.5scfm actually works fine for my small-scale sand blaster.

    Hey Red Beared I work at a HFT and we recently got our display for the 27 gallon. My manger hooked it up so we could hear it and despite being a bit noisy me and him was still able to hold a conversation right beside it. It was built just as well as the smaller units and had some weight to it but nothing to crazy.

    Not trying to beat a dead horse here (too late!) lol, but I recently bought that quiet Kobalt and gave away my crazy noisy 21 Gallon Central Pneumatic. Hands down, this will end up being the best purchase I made this year. This Kobalt is crazy quiet, I tested mine and it runs at around 65 dBA's, I can actually have a normal conversion in the same room with it on. I will never buy another one that's putting out over 70 dBA's. Don't forget, we're not the only one exposed to all that noise. And most likely, we're the only one wearing ear protection.

    One thing to keep in mind when comparing to the Dewalt is the warranty. Dewalt offers a standard 1yr, HF is 90 days, granted HF offers their extended warranty at an additional cost, but that brings the bottom line much closer.

    I really wanted to buy this air compressor. Especially after watching your review on the Hercules miter saw and buying one. I also looked into the Husky 30 gallon and bought mine for $293.81 with veterans discount. The Husky came with a 2 year standard warranty and sound pretty quiet. I used my savings to buy an air hose.
    I'm looking forward to the Hercules miter saw stand aswell.

  • @travislogsdon8691
    @travislogsdon8691 Před 3 lety

    I just purchased this on 4/20.
    I Let it set vertical for 24 hours before I even calibrated the unit. Step one was to open the valve and run it for 30 min.
    Then shut the valve turn compressor back on it takes a good ten min before it hits 200 psi slightly loud but it’s what to expect. I did air my truck tires up and the unit kicked off on the third tire. After use release the air pressure pin and valve.
    Over all the fortress is a beast i would recommend it.

      @mikeg3529 Před 5 lety +1

      I had absolute horrible luck with that model. Had 2 of them, and they both failed without much use. Both in the same fashion, it didnt break completely, but it would slowly degrade in performance until it would only reach 90 psi, and never shut off. The 29 gallon belt drive model however is much better. Have had that one for 3 years heavy use with no problems.

      @@mikeg3529 I also have the Central Pneumatic. The first one did not work at all out of the box. Brought it back and got another one, and it failed after one or two uses. I brought THAT one back, and the third one has lasted me more than five years. They made me buy a new service contract each time. I wasn't so happy about that but I am glad I did. The compressor has been fine for my DIY needs.

I replaced mine with a different one so that doesn't do that it could never get broken, just a little preventative maintenance. I am now wondering how you would install a pressure regulator to catch any water before it gets to any of my air tools before using them, any ideas? Please post here, thanks.

    *After years of hauling around a large,💫 **allabout.wiki/PORTER** heavy, loud dewalt air compressor (that ironically was advertised as quiet, supposedly 78dB), I bought this. Facepalm. While it is not ‘silent’, I find myself chuckling every time I use it, sparing all my neighbors the terror of my former compressor. I use for inflating tires, impact wrench, finish nailers. Absolutely love it. And I store it under the garage sink in a 24” cabinet. I paired with a coil 1/2”, instead of a my former 50’ 5/8” hose that I had to lug across the yard from the shed, unpleasantly uncoil.... this little guy is light and portable; just a joy. Impact wrench is still capable of easing lug bolts, flywheel bolts, crank pulleys... just allow for a tiny bit of recovery now and then.*

    I have a CH air compressor and it has been the worst purchase I have ever made at Lowe's. It is loud, it takes forever to get to pressure, and I have had to replace the pressure switch twice in it and it is already starting to act up again. Won't turn on, and then when it does it will get to pressure and then not kick on when the pressure drops below the set tool pressure. I am definitely going to replace it with this one or the new Quiet version Fortress that only goes up to 175 psi. I have considered an oil two-stage but I don't really need it to run nailers and a few air tools I use to take up tiles. My CH has been a nightmare but I have had it and nursed it along for 6 years so it is going to the big old dump soon.

    Anyone use a compressor of this size for paint spraying HVLP?

    • @pa60pilot
      @pa60pilot Před 3 lety +1

      I bought this compressor recently as a "bridge" until I get a larger garage space built. I needed to spray one bumper cover on a car - blending into both fenders, using LVLP @ 28 p.s.i.
      The compressor performed well through three coats of base and the first coat of clear, but halfway through the second coat of clear, I noticed my gun pressure had dropped dramatically. The compressor had overheated and shut down, and I had significant orange peel in the clear due to the low pressure. After about thirty minutes it cooled down enough to run and get me through another coat and a half of clear, but the orange peel was already there, so it cost me a few hours of wet sanding, compounding, and polishing.
      I knew I was asking a lot of this compressor, so I can't fault its performance in this application. I definitely wouldn't recommend attempting to paint an entire car with it. No way it will handle that demand.

    I'm intrigued by this compressor. Two big things I liked were the wheels and aluminum tank. Most compressors come with really cheap, terrible wheels. The aluminum tank speaks for itself. Like other products, I'd like to see a tear down. See what they did right and what they got wrong. It looks pretty solid, but just for the sake of being fair I'd like to see if this compressor has any obvious failure points.

  • @scharkalvin
    @scharkalvin Před 5 lety

    Not related to this product video, but to HF, I'm kicking myself for buying a new 8.5A Ridgid brand hammer drill from HomeDepot. At $120 I expected better, it was powerful enough to drill 32 holes for Tapcons to install hurricane panels for our bedroom window, but burnt out and literally caught fire on the last hole. I would have been better off with HF's Chicago Electric 6.5A drill. I got my money back on returning the dead drill to HD (and finished the job with my ancient B&D 3.5A drill). If I need to drill more holes in concrete for a project, I'll get the CE drill from HF. Now if HF ever puts one of their smaller compressors on a good coupon sale, I'll get one for the shed where we keep our bicycles, their tires always need topping up before riding.

The Kobalt has slightly less CFM with a slightly higher HP. BUT the Kobalt has a 3 year limited warranty versus HF at 90 days. AND the Kobalt is $100 less ($299 vs $399).
    Is there any reason to consider this new compressor? Thoughts?

    Oil-less also gets your tires inflated at 20 below zero.

    So they don't mention if it has an aluminum tank, other than in they typo. I really hope it's aluminum, but I bet it isn't. I wish the amperage was a touch lower since my central pneumatic has trouble getting power sometimes. Just makes me wonder if I'd have trouble with this one too.

    I could see buying the oi-less for the small ones that are quiet, but I don't see the point in buying this. Buy the oiled one, and spend the money you save by the noisy thing in a cabinet or something.

    Did you just say this compressor leaked? Also, look at the specs on the Husky, at $299, 30 gal, and 175 psi; might need another look.

    That Kobalt is less than 70 Db. Big difference between 78 Db and 70 Db. That's its biggest appeal. What difference does an extra 0.7 (or whatever it was) scfm really make anyway?

    Why do they not make a 5hp 27 gallon compressor no more the 1.5 hp or what ever do not hold up.

    Bear your talking like you've had your hands on this already. Have you??? Your doing a great job to hype this up so it " flies off the shelves". I own several different compressors but only 1 central pnuematic which is the twin stack. It has and still serves me well for roof shingling and keeps up with 2 coil nailers easily. Picked it up a few years back when they would coupon them for $99. They havent done that in a long time now. Im hesitant to try a more expensive unit because the HF warranty of 90 days just doesnt do it for me. The Competitive models you mentioned all come with minimum 1 year warranty
    Fortress 90 day. 78db
    Dewalt 1 year 78db
    Cambell Hausfeld 1 year. db N/a
    Husky 2 year 78db
    Kobalt 3 year. 70db
    I know you can purchase a 1 year warranty on HF compressors and should but thats an added cost and you should automatically factor that into the pricing. I wouldn't drop 4 or 5 hundred on anything without some type of extended warranty. They do look nice though and will sell good once they prove themselves with some positive reviews.

    Disappointed. Has a few nice features, 200 psi, nice drain mount. But it's much louder and more expensive than the Kobalt. I'll be getting the Kobalt next time it goes on sale.

    Mine only lasted 2 days. I tried to return and get full refund but they said theres a restock fee if it’s already opened. So, i replaced with the cheapest air compressor they had, did’nt open it and bring it back unopened and got the full refund😅

    Is there any "proof in the pudding" instances of an oil-less compressor actually out-living an oil bath compressor? I have my skepticism. 200 PSI for the first 5 years, then 175 for the next year and 150 the next. I really had my ears perked for this compressor being released, rather disappointed in the price-point. HF needs to knock off pretending they aren't selling knock offs.
