This is what Triumph needed, a REAL entry-level bike.
Absolutely spot on!
Given that the triumph 400 won't see British shores till December, and that by then I'm sure enfield will have launched the new Himalayan 450 liquid cooled, so that will be a direct competition for the triumph 400 scrambler I'd say
There's a scram 450 as well for sure.
A friend of mine bought a RE for his first bike. Didn’t make it a year before he traded in for a Street Scrambler. I think these new Triumphs are going to kill it in this market.
I think you're right. I know what badge l'd want on my tank.
Not just for youngsters , I’m 71 and bigger bikes are to heavy nowadays + the triumph speed saddle is only 790 which is great as my hips are going and I’ve shrunk 1 inch in height in the last 3 years ( it will happen to you youngsters as well 🤪😊👍) going to book a test ride asp ( red one of course) 😊👍
Age is just a Number 😊
Keep on riding
Keep up the Throttle
@@SP.05 You're in for a rude awakening at 60, kid.
Not just for older & shorter riders.I'm 48 & had a crash & stuffed my back & ankles & light bikes are for me now.I got a Trident 🔱 for it's low weight & push it around no problems my old Interceptor would of been abit to heavy for me.These new Triumph 400(T400) are great lightweight have enough power for motorways look great.I looked at the Tiger 🐅 660 206kg but it was the upswoopped seat I struggled to swing my leg over with my bad back, hip & Trident 🔱 189kg & I could swing leg over seat.
I Guess this will the new Triumph Scrambler will be competition to RE Himalayan 450 !!
Bro what ?
scrambler and roadster 450
Scrambler will target Scram 411.
Maybe that's why RE purposely leaked the 450ad ridden by CS Santosh.
czcams.com/users/shortsgqGKCrdHn5g?feature=share
Comparing a tractor with a sports car. Both have wheels.
I think it will be closer to the RE twins' price. So that is what we should compare
yeah and hunter and cb350 are no way its competition both in terms of money and power figure
I’m hoping for it to be $6k or under but my gut is telling me $6.5k
Dont forget these are getting built out of Bajaj so HOPEFULLY that'll bring the price down some more.
@@Thunder_Bear_mg I am hoping it won't cross 6k
@@adityaduttamishra7993yeaah lol, The triumph twins will be priced atleast 280K Ex showroom
Why doesn't Honda sell the CB350 in the UK? Looks fantastic old school, would fit right in over here!
Over here in Taiwan both CB350 are saleing like hot cake, flying off dealer lot, mostly because of the low price, and they do look pretty cool
And our unique right of way here limmilt all motorcycle to local road so the 20 something horse power is more than enough for local roads and urban riding
But if you are in UK where bike are allow on highway, I think you may find the 350s a tiny bit under power when riding highway speeds
It’s been a year now. Best effortless bike. Engine is the selling point.
They are very nice machine, popular among enthusiasts here in india and was launched 2 years back.
@turtledovechen176 Prozzie a Canadian living in Taiwan has just bought a Hobda Rebel 500cc, similar power to the Triumph.
@@kbarnbrook4993even though the power may not be necessarily, a lot of people here still buy bigger bike, because bikes are just straight up cool after all, even liter bike are quite common. i just ordered a CL500 myself(it is call CL Street here because Benz already registered the name CL500, at least that is what the Honda sells rep told me)
The new 400 seems on par with the KTM 390, but with decent modern classic looks. The 400X I'm most excited about as a weekday commuter, with actual ability for weekends off road. I'd love an XE variant with some even longer stroke suspension, higher ground clearance, and spoked wheels (please Triumph!)... even so the standard 400X should hit the sweet spot for many. The new RE 450 Himalayan could be stiff competition for it though, especially if it maintains RE's typically aggressive pricing.
definitely competition for KTM and especially the Husqvarna 401s
Thanks for the comments about highway riding and tour capabilities. Looking forward to your ride review.
......lovely to see triumph's trademark timing and primary drive cases adorning their new lightweight singles, continuing the original 1930's speed twin pedigree, on a lumpy little single, perhaps we will see a 400cc liquid cooled triumph trailblazer option to top the off road variants at some later point? Great uploads chap!
I like both the Bajaj offerings, if not a bit of a confusing mix of modern and retro.
Would probably go for an RE. Anything not Chinese landfill is a good start.
There's also Harley Davidson X440, RE Himalayan 450 and also existing Honda GB350.
@@varun2250 Harley is now half Chinese if I'm not wrong.
Every motorcycle Motobob's compared the Triumph with seems to know what they're doing. Triumph, to me, seems like it is trying to be a bit of everything. That is usually an instant recipe for disaster. But I hope Bajaj knows what it is trying to do. Maybe it is trying to create a new segment. Who knows! For me, the look of the new Triumphs is a turn-off.
Thought the Endfields had a decent bike ,
But these Triumphs look miles apart in a good way
@@martinhughes9769 By the time these Triumph's enter UK with their steep pricing, there will be alternatives like HD X440 and the anticipated RE Himalayan 450.
You can see its a modern take on the 250 Trophy/Trail Blazer & BSA B25 Gold Star SS 250 from the early 1970s.
I can see the 400 being a successful venture im sure.
I have a Scram and cant wait for these to come out. That scrambler just looks so good and has the much better HP
Should do a comparison between the new upcoming re 450 Himalayan and triumph 400 bikes
Great review Motobob. I think the scram looks wise is up there and for the price. The trident seems a similar sizing and also comparable to the Benelli offerings in sizing for smaller bikes like the Benelli Leoncino 500 scrambler and 800 scrambler that are also lovely bikes. The only discernible factor for me buying these bikes is the dealership network in the United Kingdom and the people willing to work on them which puts the likes of triumph at the top but the prices are also fairly high in comparison to the models I mentioned. I forgot to mention another Italian bike the Cabalerro fabric scrambler 125 and 500 which are beautiful looking machines and FM moto
And motoguzzi bigger 650 scramblers. I am not a fan of the 400 Harley rear end scambler fendering 😆
Great video Bob as always! For me the Speed Twin 400 is THE BIKE to try out when available, although I like the looks of the Husqvarna also
It's not a Twin!.. It's called just Speed 400 & it's a single cylinder..
I'd definitely try the Triumph if I were leaning toward this category of bike. Looks cool
Thanks for the GREAT review!!! I'd like to see a comparison between the Kawasaki z400 and the new Triumph Speed 400. The Triumph is beautiful and new, but the Kawasaki is lighter and has a little more power.
Hey @motobob any rumors/hints of them launching an adventure version using the 400 platform or the scramble is it?
These are most beautiful 400 s i have ever seen
I’d love to see a pic of all the competitors side by side with stats under each one including the other offerings in the 4-6 thousand category , RE interceptors would be included and folks they’re 650’s . ❤ personally I love retro looks so it limits the ones I’d buy to Honda , RE and Triumph I reckon .❤
If the Triumphs are more premium priced, like the rest of their range, the RE interceptor becomes a very tempting offer too and with loads more torque, I will be patient and wait but I'm leaning towards paying a little more and getting the Interceptor for cruising longer distances and climbing mountain passes.
Gosh this motorcycle looks fabulous 🤩.
In India we also have Yezdi Sceambler as a competitor. Yezdi actually looks really good!
Yezdi sucks. Scrambler has rock hard suspension. Crap bike
The over used mojo 300 engine is getting old in the tooth.
Nice review. Thanks.
Ill definitely be test riding the speed 400 in spring of 2024 when they hit the states to see if I like it more than the hunter 350 I test rode recently. If the speed 400 is priced more than 2 grand more than hunter 350, I’ll probably pass unless it really “wows” me.
It'll be expensive when compared with hunter 350, hunter looks beautiful and is a steal for it's price 😊
Speed 400 for me when they come to America 🎉. I got a new classic 350 last fall and I love it, I just need a little more power for weekend trips to the mountains. Keep the great content coming
Considering between the two, mostly for kicking around but also maybe a little commuting on a 60mph interstate. Newer rider, not interested in super high end performance but not sure how to feel about unf in the interstate. Any thoughts at this point?
I saw that CFMoto is soon releasing a naked version of their 450SS. Modern styled but would be equal to the new Triumph's in weight and likely undercut them in price. More claimed power than the Triumph's or any of the mentioned rivals + 270° P-twin layout should also produce the best exhaust note!
@motobob whats your thought on comparing triump speed 400 with harley davidson x440
Love your content brother!!
I think the Scrambler looks ace and perfect for my 60 year old body 😅
Very interesting. The Fantic Caballero 500 scrambler and Flat Track are also direct rivals imo........
If triumph can keep the price around 6 grand or less than they'll be a huge hit. The bikes you forgot to mention are the Fantic scramblers. I've ridden the rally and loved it except that exhaust that makes it feel like you're riding a fat pony. Seeing the Triumph scrambler 400x makes me think I'll hold off a bit longer.
6 grand still is too much. You can get the interceptor if you spend a little more.
@@SonOfDrogo as long as it's near the KTM390 price it will sell great.
@SonOfDrogo why are people comparing this to the Interceptor? 2 totally different bikes. The only comparison is British design.
@@mark.e.p ah that's because of the price bracket. Pushing it close to interceptor price would be bad. KTM390 price range is the perfect one though
The triumphs just look so much more premium and refined..awesome..
How would you compare these with the mid-cap. line up from Fantic? I'm surprised to see that the 2 Triumphs are priced at least £ 2000,- cheaper than the Fantics here in Denmark😲...
Such great looking bikes
How well do these bikes out excellerate mr hoodie dealer at he lights and when he is tailgating you in traffic at
roundabouts in london?
Thanks for the comparo 🙏
such a good view, such good understanding about these bikes, i have been riding the ktm for quite few years, and that single cylinder is too much viby and ofcourse its a fun bike , but after all these years, i think i am in need of a twin cylinder 500 cc engine instead of a 390 from ktm , because i heard that honda's engine is very versatile and with very less vibration, plus the seating when you compare with the ktm is wider and comfy, just like the one on hunter or triumph,
in your reivew i think you missed on cb500 or cb500x which is the direct competition to these bikes, i didn't knew there was a CL500 unless i just came to know from your video. thanks
Without any doubt, I would go to the Triumph Speed 400 🤩 It looks very beautiful 😍
I just ordered the Triumph Scrambler 400x a few days ago👌🏻
how do you think these line up against the Kawa Eliminator with its bored-out Ninja 450 engine?
Great review as usual Bob... Can you please review and compare the Harley 440....
I think the 400x is a great looking bike. I was hoping for more of a drop down in the frame to accommodate a lower seat height though. I’d like to see a Himalayan with a 450cc liquid cooled engine with a 6 speed gear box. If the Himalayan had those I’d likely buy one. I’m seriously considering downgrading from my current 2016 Tiger Explorer 1200 XRT.
The KTM Duke looks like a transformer coughed up a hairball. The Triumphs are absolutely beautiful.
So much choice in this market segment now. My favorites are the Speed 400 and KTM 390 ADV.
If you’ve never ridden the how can you recommend them?
This is how motobob rolls!! Legend! No nonsense huh
These bikes have been revealed in india for Pricing equal to 2,226 GBP . which is crazy 😀
I’m in the market for a Duke 390, Scartpilen 401, and Speed 400. Such different styling but so much else in common!!
I have the Duke 390 and it's a excellent bike. You need to be reasonably tall however because of the seat height. The scartpilen 401 is nearly the same as the Duke in performance but personally I prefer the look of the Duke.
Getting the scram for sure
The 400x scrambler is the one , but I’d buy a use fanfic caballero 500 if I can’t wait till 2024 👍🏍🏍👍
I can't help but thinking why is the Fantic Caballero not included?
I so want the Speed 400 in Phantom Black ❤
Well I think You should also include the Gold Star 650cc and a Benelli Imprriale 400 as well as Benelli Leoncino 500 and Leoncino 500 trial. As well as Fantic Caballero 500 they are all hovering around 5,5K pounds mark. And I can't see the new Triumph 400 dipping below the 5K pounds mark.
That Triumph is my next bike. I need to find out when US dealerships are going to start taking deposits
Would be interesting to see Triumph go against RE in India. RE have kept it reasonably affordable anticipating Triumph's premium prizing for similar capacity bikes. You didn't add Harley Davidson's new 440 model coming up in Indian markets.
Bajaj through triumph is trying to achieve exactly that it seems. They do have the dominar 400 which was slated as a rival to the RE classic bikes but haven't really been able entice RE would be owners. So triumph with the more pronounced brand name could sway a lot of buyers toward their side.
Already 10000 bookings for triumph 400!
Hi i liked your Briefing about the Triumph 400X and Triumph 400Speed.I want to Congratulate🎉 The Triumph Motorcycles Manufacturing company and the Team involved in Designing, developing and Manufacturing such a beautiful motorcycles.I like Triumph 400X and also Triumph 400Speed.I Pray God bless me to own such beautiful motorcycles🙏
Street (Speed 400) is my pick of all these made in India bikes since I’ve fallen in love with its looks.. Probably it’ll be my second bike..
Yup.. it looks so good. The best choice for a 35 year old bloke like me who is having a bit of a mid life crisis. My Yamaha r15 v2 has served me well for 11 years. But I ain't what I used to be back then. Now I need a ride I'd like to take out on weekends and not have arm and back pains after that. 😅
@@josephnevin Ha Ha.. I’m Old.. did I mention that I’m 50 ?
And I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan S..
I bet they will be priced very close to the KTM 390s, putting them in a different market to the Hunter, but within temptation distance of Scram and Himalayan shoppers. If Triumph are too greedy with their pricing, they risk losing buyers to the RE 650 twins.
I own the Himalayan and the KTM 390 Adv. I checked out all the other bikes on this video, except the Triumphs obviously. The Himi will go everywhere and is a joy to own, but the KTM is lighter, faster, nimbler and thus, more fun. The BMW is out. Enter the new Triumphs. Oh jeez, they look good. If/when they come to the U.S. I may need to go shopping again!
thx,
S
Hey. What about the benelli leoncino 500?
I am curious as to whether Triumph have a more adventure biased 400 in the pipeline that would go up against the Cf moto 450 and the Himalayan 450
More I see the numbers the more I think Husqvarna Svartpilen/Vitpilen 401 are main competitors much more more than Royal Enfield ? Road and Scrambler
I’ll wait to see the royal Enfield for 50 but I think I’m leaning towards the triumph scrambler for my next purchase
i got the honda gb350s. I live in a city and its all I ride. always dream of other 400cc bikes...
If the Triumph rides well and they price it right, under £6k, then theres no competition. It's the Scrambler 400 in Khaki Green for me.
Speed is for 233k INR here so it will be around 5k or under in uk
I have the Duke 390 21 model. It's fantastic specially now i put a 14 tooth front sprocket on it. It's fantastic but you need to be tall because it has a high seat height.
I think the 400X is going to be replacing my 250 Chinese bike here in Ecuador. These Baby Bonneville's look awesome.
Triumph will be a good seller for those who can afforf them. They look sweet for sure.
Wouldn't the Honda CB300R also be some slight competition?
With the inclusion of the Honda, what about a Benelli Leoncino Trail?
I owned before a CB 500 x so i think il go for CL 500 anyways d royal enfield triumph 400 GS 310 were both assembled in India
Been contemplating getting my bike license for awhile (MTBr already)...yeah, the Scrambler 400x is the reason to get my license!!
Really like the Triumph 400X, it comes round about the same price as an Interceptor 650. Not sure which to go for, whether to trade build quality and liquid cooling for a cylinder and and a few extra horses…
Considering the RE 650 weighs about 30kgs more than the 400x the extra 7 HP probably wouldn't make much difference, so it's just price then and what brand you like more RE being Indian owned and Triumph being a UK company
@@JohnnyXoz single VS twin and 650 wont offroad like the 400X
Bike is not all about specs. 650 twins are the worst machine apart from their specs. They are not the ones you can live with.
@@JohnnyXoz thanks, would probably go the Triumph route for quality sake. The only thing that is really drawing me to RE is the sound of a twin engine and retro styling for the price.
@@JohnnyXoztriumph is teaming up with an indian bike brand called Bajaj to produce this bike, so its same as Re...
Can't wait for this
Why not to compare the scram x with fantic caballero 500?
This comparison works for Triumph until September. Launch of the RE 450 Himalayan (and poss. Roadster too) will just over write these Triumphs I think
I want the Scrambler to ride and a Street to put in my living room to stare at. Single cylinder bikes are just super cool for some reason.
Look Great ,Price needs to be right , I Had A Triumph top build quality
Triumph def nailed it with these. They look better then the RE's with the power of those transformer looking KTM's.
Still love the looks of the CB350 Highness. If the Triumph sells in any numbers then surely Honda will have to bring that to the European market?
Why the Triumph 400x has only 150mm of suspension travel is - at least to me - baffling. Is there a 400xe possible?
Put the 1200 XE forks on it...😁
really want that scrambler
You could have waited till the release of HD X440.
Or perhaps a new video on it.
Everything depends from the triumph price. If it will be 4500-5000eur the rip hunter 350. If they will be more expensive then well..
I would have the Triumph 400x scrambler in the green paint scheme out of all of them.
i put a deposit on speed 400 in blue yesterday
Did Triumph actually mention the fuel consumption numbers? Fuel consumption can be a bit factor for some people (especially with the prices these days), so it could become a deal-breaker if these new Triumph bikes drink bigger amounts of fuel.
I've test rode the CL500 and it rides and handles great. But this Triumph Scram 400X looks stunning, it deffo beats the Honda in looks all day long. But will it be as reliable. I'd have much more faith in the Honda in that department.
The competition in this segment is increasing thick and fast. The new Duke makes a compelling case for itself. But at least there is still a proper distinction in intent compared to the Speed 400, so you would have an easier decision to make. I personally prefer the Triumph for it's low end and calmer power delivery that makes the power usable more of the time during regular commutes. I loved my Duke 200, but that sort of spirited riding (comparing the 390 here though) everyday is behind me. Especially with the poor road and traffic conditions here.
However, when it comes to the Scrambler 400 X, there is serious competition incoming in the guise of the Himalayan 450 with a liquid cooled single, boasting the same power and torque figures as the Triumph. This should be interesting!
Thank you, but I'll wait for the Himalayan 450.
These make the same power as the Enfield twins but look better and probably handle better. If they are competitive with them I know which one I’d go for.
Agreed, I'd still go for the Royal Enfield too. 😊
Same(ish) power but higher in the rev range and a lot less torque, and "probably handle better" is a big call given that RE have Harris doing the chassis. I'm about to say goodbye to my SR400 and these new Triumphs aren't anywhere near my shortlist to replace it, which is currently topped by the Interceptor.
It's great when you realize almost all these bikes are made in India.
MPG will be better on the Hunter
Triump speed 400 is simply great, extraordinary performance at low and middle RPM's but rear brakes and liquid cooling system could have been better. Overall it is a great bike 🥰🥰👍👍👍
Speed 400's, hunter 350, CB350's, Ktm390's, Bmw310's, scram411 all are either Indian brand or made in India and exported CL500 is a exception
I would like to go for Scrambler 400x
I bought a Scram as a training bike. I'm doing DAS training with students on MT07s. I have no problem keeping pace with these bikes out on the dual carriageway. You just hold onto the gears a bit longer. Off road it's agile, stable and easy to ride - it's certainly well beyond my level of competence. Where Enfield cuts the costs is in the peripherals, so you just have to accept that you will be upgrading things like chains, brake pads and so on. The tyres are just fine, despite being budget, so I'll wear them out before changing them.
On the Triumphs, I agree with Stuart Fillingham here - the Enfields are not really the competition as they are very different machines with different characteristics and price range. Overall, I suspect that the Triumphs despite being pitched at the Asian market will do better in places like Europe.
