- Marmaray is a 76.6 km (47.6 mi) long commuter rail line in Istanbul, Turkey. It comprises a rail tunnel under the Bosphorus strait, and the modernization of existing suburban railway lines along the Sea of Marmara from Halkalı on the European side to Gebze on the Asian side. The procurement of new rolling stock for suburban passenger traffic is also part of the project. Construction started in 2004, with an initial target opening date of April 2009. After multiple delays caused by the discovery of historical and archaeological finds, the first phase of the project opened on October 29, 2013. It is the first standard gauge rail connection between Europe and Asia. The second phase of the project was scheduled to open in 2015, but the work was stopped in 2014. One of the most interesting S-Trains in the globe. Definitely took a long time to get running though!
I enjoyed using the Marmaray tube. Istanbul deserves the best travel link, being the most populous European city, currently around 18 million people.

yep, there is a (semi)high-speed train line working through Istanbul-Ankara
it's a shame that government opened this up in a hurry to get more votes in local elections which they eventually lost, therefore this line now works with setbacks.
What setbacks are you talking about? This line is more modern and better than a lot of London tube lines. I know much better having used both of them. Foreigners always have an issue with Turkey that kind of portray their prejudice against Turks and Muslims in general. Go and use a tube in Paris and see how filthy some are and they smell of piss.
The reality is that this line was delayed for several years in order to be able to get historical artefacts that they discovered while digging.
@@rally7358 those artifacts youre talking about are ignored and covered with concrete which erdogan even said "marmaray delayed because a bunch of potteries". Also Im a local Turkish. I didnt even mention hygiene and this train is just bad compared both to others and to older version. Setbacks include not knowing when the next train is, trains themselves waiting up to 10 minutes in stations, train slows down and stops in between stations for no reason etc
Bry WHsbg As someone who has used BART in San Francisco, USA, I envy your 10 minute wait times 😂. Our metro comes every 15 minutes per line at rush hour, and 20 minutes per line on weekends.
@@middletransport nah mate, this line still stands like when it used to be, and 10 minutes im talking about is the time train just waits at the station, waiting time for it is still 15 minutes. Except for the 7 stations in the middle, some kind of express works only between these 7 stations departures every 8 minutes, or thats what they say. Though I can't ignore the fact for SF, such ridiculous. Thankful glorious governments.
