      I feel the same way. I have some fruit trees that I have purchased again. I'm not putting them in the ground. Cause I don't feel like this is my forever home as well. 😊

    I planted more zucchinis, squash, cucumber and Cantaloupe for the grand babies today. Zipper peas went in yesterday. Got to say your garden is looking good. Hope to add blackberries to my garden this fall because the Grand babies love them. The heat is so bad that I hate to see what July and August is going to be like. I live in the city limits of Columbus so we can no longer have chickens but I would love to have a few as bug control.

      @TheBullsGarden  Před 7 dny +1

      That’s awesome you got those vegetables in the ground, the grands will definitely enjoy the berries. The kids would’ve really enjoyed playing with the chickens. This heat has been extraordinary this year

    Hi Bull. As always, I enjoy seeing what you are doing in your garden. I'm harvesting peppers, not as many as I'd like, but production will pick up in Septembver and October after the summer heat passes. I am harvesting a lot of tomatoes. Next year, I am concentrating on determinant varieties. The Grand Marshall has produced a lot of good size tomatoes, and is still producing. I am testing the ACE-55 with my second crop. They are already setting fruit, and doing it in the summer heat. It is looking like they will make the permanent list. I want to try a third variety next year, and am looking at the Jolene tomato. I am starting to thin down the first wave of tomato plants, removing three this morning. Yesterday I planted a raised bed with potato chits (fall potatoes). The lemon squash is done, and the dying plants have been removed. The zucchini are still looking healthy, but are at the end of their cycle. They will be coming out soon, along with the ground cherries, to make room for cool season crops. In about week, I'll be starting seed starts for cabbage, and sowing seeds for turnips and carrots. In mid-August, I'll start seed starts for brocolli and cauliflower, and sow seeds for Yellow Heart Winter Choy and Boc Choy. You know me, I'll keep sowing seeds through October-garlic month! I am determined to keep my garden producing through the winter. Pole bean production has been poor this year. Not a problem, I still have nearly the entire harvest from last year in my freezer. This year was just an experiment to try a new variety. Next year, I'll go back to Blue Lake pole beans, and maybe Gold Rush? I tried the Beit Alpha and Katerina parthenocarpic cucumber varieties. They had good production and are still producing, but they aren't climbers. Next year, I am going back to planting International Pickling and Straight-8. I miss my shady spot in the garden. The little chicks are four weeks old, and their bodies are fully feathered. I'm spoiling them with treats from the garden. I haven't had any problems with coop training. They are lined up at the door chirping and waiting for me to open it in the morning. They go in and out during the day, but more importantly, they return to it at night without me having to chase them down. Unfortunately, they wait until the last minute, at twilight, to return to the coop. Sometime I forget and go out after dark, which isn't safe for me. I have to go out with a loaded rifle-pumas and other predators. The chickens are in a predator proof chicken run, so no problem for them.

    • @TheBullsGarden
      @TheBullsGarden  Před 5 dny +1

      Yes most definitely take that loaded rifle out with you just in case something looking for that smoke 😅 This heat hasn’t been kind at all this summer and I’ve had to work extra hard for the harvest.

    Great looking food forest. What size containers do tou have your lemon and any other fruit trees in containers? With no fence yet, swuirreks, chipmunks, raccoons, etc I am still battling them also. Getting some in soon.

      @TheBullsGarden  Před 7 dny +1

      I certainly understand the frustration with wild animals destroying our plants, I’ll check on the containers and get back to you, can’t remember off the top of my head
