    This is dope! Good idea having the arms fold horizontally. Can even attach sand bags or kick pads on the upper or mid sections for different types of conditioning and practice.

  • @0713mas
    @0713mas Před 2 lety

    Pretty awesome idea! I would've use thick dowels instead of the board as arms and also made locking pins so the arms could be fixed if you wanted, but you could also wrap the arms with rope or chord to make them better for conditioning. Nice work

      @adept.anderson  Před rokem +1

  • @Mr_MRK

    That's a great one, well done but I think you may use a spring or another wood piece to stop the arms from swinging back.

    • @adept.anderson
      @adept.anderson  Před 2 lety +1

      right, Ive upgraded the arms to something heavier but springs would definitely add a much needed element

    Great vid, thank you for posting an ingenious concept. [subscribed!]
    Before my Tao Sifu retired I've always wanted to train with both a makiwara and a Wing Chun dummy, but as you know price is always an issue with the latter. The former is quite attainable as you've shown.
    Question: have you since changed your stand-alone makiwara dummy to have "flexible" arms with rotational slack/give when arm striking?
    My Tao Sifu taught his lineage of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, but rarely ventured to teach us beyond the siu lim tau basic form. Years later (after my Sifu retired) I tried a free class at an Emin Boztepe Wing Tsun branch and unfortunately had bad experience: the teacher kept challenging me for over two minutes walking me backwards into his classroom's wall throwing chain punches as I was barely 5 minutes into his beginner class. NEVER returned to him after that awful experience. Fortunately I was fast enough to back up but I could tell he wanted "more contact".

      Damn thats unfortunate, i hope you find the knowledge you seek eventually even if its through your own exploration. As far as the dummy i actually planned on doing a follow up video because I've added upgrades to it since, and one of the ideas that i planned on adding to it was resistance of some sort. Appreciate the Sub!

  • @djphantom1823
    @djphantom1823 Před 3 lety +1

    The longer folding arms is better IMO it allows you to dip/slip as well as throwing the opposing arm out of the way
    Also I hope you used treated lumber if not please paint it so it can with stand the elements
    Overall great job man ! I’m going to steal this design

    Very cool. It kind of reminds me of the kakiya, or kakete-biki, is an old-style Okinawan karate training tool, consisting of a wooden post with a movable arm (usually weighted) for training limb control, muchimidi (sticky hands), and tuidi (seizing hands). From the quick demo you gave you seem to be going in this direction. Again, very cool.
