Tony, thank you so much for this incredible series. It's been a pleasure to follow and priceless to my bonsai learning journey.
I look forward to seeing this tree in person one day

Ah, fellow pumice/lava enjoyer! Good choice. Root growth in theese stones is insane.

Amazing just by changing the angle totally transformed

26:10 This must be the bonsai equivalent of the sewist's "bobbin roulette"! Just enough to finish the project (repotting) without having any unusable length wasted! It is oddly satisfying. But to focus on the bonsai; I love how the new angle shows a pleasing curve to the lower trunk that was not obvious in it's previous angle.

Great video. Made me realize my hawthorns are potted up in a way too wet soil mixture.

A great front shows itself @ 7:10 at least from the perspective of the camera.

Timely video! I have a similar decision to make. A two year Yamadori Hawthorne but I think I will leave it another year as the roots are still lacking a bit of lateral flare from the air layering!
I must admit, I wouldn’t be so brave as to put it in a Bonsai pot after such a big root prune!

Great video Tony, amazing how much root it’s put on, I can only hope my bin bag hawthorns work out like that!
By the way, I also think the position at exactly 27:58 into the video could make an interesting front, it’s just hard to see which way the apex is pointing from the video at the point, just a thought anyway! Great work!

Su'mae from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Tony! I've been using the "black bag technique" for a few years now with great success with collected/unhealthy decisuois trees, thanks to your blog/videos. Quick question though: Is this method also applicable to conifers, and to Pseudolarix/Larix?
