    Really liked the idea that you said ‘A driver is just a lay up shot’. Made me think ‘Oh yes! You’re right!’ Too many times I treat it as a long drive competition.

    Very mellow vibe to this new intro vs original, sets a different tone from the start.
    Hole 15, second shot. Good illustration that everyone has to complete the decision making process. I'm vulnerable to being feeling rushed or distracted and not doing so.

  • @salvatoresanjose712
    @salvatoresanjose712 Před 3 lety

    Your back nine (if it were my system), would be 14 good shots and 4 bad ones.
    Total of 37 (good short game/putting).
    Total is 29 good shots vs 7 bad shots.
    Gross of 74.
    The score itself is immaterial. One bad shot - if it goes OB - is already worth 2 strokes at least.
    I realize now how critical the ff are:
    1) The bad shot should still be 'ball in play' (not in OB or penalty hazzard).
    2) Short game is paramount - you manage to scramble very well - whereas I would be lucky to get 50% up/down.
    3) I should 'know' where to miss - this is very critical.
    4) A bogey won't kill my score since I still have a handicap - but a double will (more so psychologically).
    Thank you for that wonderful video!

    I like the new intro.

  • @salvatoresanjose712
    @salvatoresanjose712 Před 3 lety

    I like the new intro - very zen!
    I've actually recently established a 'scoring' method for myself when I play. I count 'good' shots and 'bad' shots out of the 36 full shots that I hit in a round (putts are not included in this system).
    I find that if I hit 28 good shots - I will score below 79. Yesterday, i hit 27 good shots and ended up with 80 (one bad shot dropped in the drink for a penalty stroke).
    This shifts the focus from the usual scoring system of 75 or 78 or 82 - and instead, the focus falls on can I get to 30 in a round or 32? The most I've gone is 30 (shot 74) - but I can't get past that YET.
    Your front 9 - for me, you hit 15 good shots and 3 bad shots - BUT you only had 17 putts (1 x 3 putt and 2 x 1 putt) giving you a score of 37.

  • @thehairygolfer
    @thehairygolfer Před 3 lety +1

    For me to go low off my tee shot length I need to hit 12 fairways and 10 greens and get up and down 50% with hopefully 2 birdies to balance the books. Hitting fairway is everything. My bad rounds are when I only hit 5 fairways leading to not many greens in reg and spending too many shots chipping out or reloading on the tee box. That is the difference between 75 and 85 - hitting fairway. I learnt this in Thailand with all the water, sand and monkey grass rough.

    • @GenevieveLingGolf
      @GenevieveLingGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah and that’s why “drive for show, putt for dough” is a bit of a fallacy in my opinion! If you drive badly chances are you won’t put yourself in a good enough position to even putt for dough! 😅

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer Před 3 lety

      @@GenevieveLingGolf I agree totally. If you don't drive for show you aint putting for dough. Ben Hogan knew that and that's why he thought driving the ball was THE most important part of the game.

    Good video. Thx for doing this work for us. I would have been interested (if it makes sense) to have the average of the rating of the shots (may be with categories). It seems that it would show that you shot +2 with an average rating of the shots that is probably not at 8/10. I don't how you rate a +2 score on that course though.
