The upcoming 1440p 480Hz W-OLED from LG / Asus is going to be even better than this, but more expensive.
And as always, expect to see this 360Hz panel on a range of different branded monitors so take your pick.

It's crazy that we are ACTUALLY seeing year to year advancements in monitor tech. FINALLY we are observing progress again. Last 5 - 8 years it was really cumbersome and slow. All very incremental improvements. 75-100-120-144-165-180-200-240... And they all had huge issues with artefacting/overshooting/incredibly slow pixel response.
But finally we are observing some insane advancements. Insane motion clarity, pixel response (literally no overshoot/artefact). Year to year advancement in refresh rate (240/360/480...).
Also HUUUGE range of display variants. 27-32-34... ultra wides/ super ultra wides...
And we have 2 competing OLED technologies... WRGB and QD-OLED and both kick ass. AND THEY'RE NOT OVERLY EXPENSIVE!
Man i'm finally getting excited over monitor techs.
Best tech channel on the platform for me, hands down.

Hello guys, if anyone's wondering why the glossy msi coating didn't look much that better than asus's matte coating it's because ambient light inadvertedly activates the qdcc layer inside the qd oled panel due to the lack of polarizer, so the black level is raised quite a bit more compared to the woled. There's an awesome video from tftcentral if you guys want to know more.
Link?
@@Mechanomaly-NB It's the one about the oled black depth.
so msi is bad?
@@kakashi99908Not at all what the comment suggested. Any qd-oled gets considerably raised blacks when in a bright environment, but besides I don't think oleds are well-suited for a bright setup anyway.
@@kakashi99908 all qd-oled are bad for gaming unless you can spare cash, they get burned in faster and the black isn't that dark, so get the woled if you are short in cash.
The sad part is that the text issue is only on Windows and they COULD fix it on OLEDs and other panel types, but they don’t care enough to do it
I read a while back, that if you deactivate windows clear type it becomes much better. Clear type optimizes for a specific pixel layout which results in worse than standard text with OLED
I think it is also on mac.. 1440p on Mac doesnt look super sharp to begin with. But let me know if you have any sources that state the contrary.
@@tr4nnel752 Completely incorrect. Not an issue on Mac.
@@Techfanatic73 That is just bs. Mac has the same issues with text clarity on 1440p. If you have a 4k oled panel, the issue isn't as noticable, both on Mac and Windows.
The problem on windows is that individual applications are able to do their own layout engine (idk what the name is), so even if Microsoft were to make windows better at handling non-standard pixel layouts, you can still run into issues with programs like chrome, photoshop etc. It would be a step in the right direction though.
After watching your video about the ASUS OLED I bought it and I have been playing on it for quite some time and I gotta say that I am still amazed about colours and Visuals. Especially in Esport games ur game just feels really clear

The black is grey because Samsung doesn't have a polarizer layer in them(LG do). Same story with last years Samsung qd-oled panels (alienware aw3423dw for example) and with this latest gen panel too, already confirmed by HUB.

Man that’s great - refresh rates are getting so fast it’s almost like they’re “done” with that performance metric and can start prioritizing innovation of other features to keep bumping up the overall quality.
This might be the first time I have ever seen a live side by side being ran on a non oled and an oled for comparison. @@RealLordShaxx I hope there'll be a 1440p 360hz mode as well, making it triple mode. Should be possible through a firmware update, as the panel's tech is there.

literally my dream monitor
Mine too, if warranty checks out because ultimately it's still OLED and if you intend to realistically use the 360hz most of the time, it means you are playing multiplayer FPS games with HUD (CS2/Valorant/OW2 etc.) for multiple hours a day, and HUD is very likely to cause a burn-in. He mentions how he played Overwatch for 600 hours and no burn-in so far, but if you want to play, let's say, 4 hours a day, 600 hours is not even half a year, it's kind of meaningless.
With Alienware's 3-year warranty it's decent, but it's still quite expensive compared to LCDs as most people wouldn't want to replace their ~$1000 product within 3 years. It's a sick product, but it's still quite premium. But if you have money and aren't bothered with replacements via warranty it's godlike for sure.
@@TheCabIe I have just bought this screen due to the reviews. The burn-in issue today is not a worry. I have had three OLED TVs since the 4K tech has been around. My LG B7 was stunning. But suffered from really bad burn-in. The Panasonic HZ1000 had no problems at all. I have that TV running still. With family on you tube and icons on TV channels, its 5 years old now and no burn-in to be seen. I then bought and still have an LG G2 WOLED. Two years old now, and no issues. Xbox SX and PS5 have not harmed this screen. It's due to the extra pixel they have added. There were 3 colours but now there is 4. Plus, an heatsink on the panel. Burn-in on OLED TV's is not like on and old CRT. It just a pixel being driven harder than the others. Red and yellow OLED colour was a massive problem. The colour is harder to drive. But with the extra white pixel, the problem is now mute. LG give a 5-year warranty on its TV panels. Don't worry about burn-in. Watch HDTV Test. Vincent put a 50% white square in HDR and leaves it for 4 hours. It marks the screen with image retention, but he runs the pixel cleaner, and it goes. Enjoy your OLED screens. BTW on my G2 TV I also have logo dimming turned off. No problems after nearly two years.
I'd love to see a cheap but good oled monitor round up video this year, couldn't see myself justifying a 480hz screen when all I do is casual valorant... But I really do like oled and would like to get the most bang for my buck
Hey optimum,
As the new year has begun im looking forward to you rating our setups again,
All of the setup reviews are both really entertaining and informative and we would love to have your expertised opinion on our clean and messy setups 😊😊
Man, seeing these high refresh rate 1440p OLED's really makes me want to upgrade my OLED G8 (175hz), PC hardware is getting so insane and if Nvidia manage to release at least the 5090/5080 this year, then no doubt we could very easily max out the 360/480hz at native res on quite a few titles with DLSS.
Awesome vid, mate, can't wait for the next monitor review 👌👌
Could you notice the difference in colours between the older WOLED and this new qd-oled? Apparently the qd-oleds produce much richer colours, especially reds and greens compared to other oleds. Although some people might call it oversaturated.
theres no oversaturation. theres just the outdated extremely limited CRT colorspace "sRGB" holding everyone back.
Unless you have both side by side, I’d say both are good
I’d really love to have you do one of these for the best 4K OLED screen. I understand why you prefer the crazy refresh rates of lower res monitors, but us 4K people need some love too 🥺
and it is easier to double the resolution than double the fps. and scaling down resolution work much batter than lowering fps.
so we really need 4k 480hz soon, frame gen starts at 200fps i would say, so you need 400hz display to get those extra frames.
There are no reasonably sized (non-productivity) 4k oled monitors currently available. He'll review the upcoming 32" 4K oled monitors closer to launch.
I'm hoping the same too, I had a quick look at the market and there's almost nothing in the 32-34" space, it's all 40+ inches.
4K at 32-34" size would be nice but I'd be happy enough with my current 1440p. There's a Philips and Samsung model, and an upcoming MSI, but they're all 3440x1440 ultrawides for some reason

I am really looking forward to watching your review on the new and upcoming ASUS OLED 480hz PG27AQDP. It features a new technology that makes text readability clearer.
I can't wait for your reviews. I want a 360 or even 480hx oled 1440p monitor but :
- I am still concerned by color fringing on text (LG vs Samsung panel comparison expected)
- I am concerned by the absence of DP2.1 as those monitors should be "future proof"
What you want to look for there is subpixel layout, I believe monitors in Q2 and beyond will fix this by shuffling subpixels around e.g. RWGB (or something or other) to RGBW or whatever. Point is they address this later on in the year
As for your second point, DP is still sufficient depending on your use case (console gamer?) and an argument about throughput is made e.g. 2.0 is perfectly sufficient, forget the exact details
dp 1.4 + dsc is perfectly capable of doing 480hz 1440p 10bit color without any perceptible difference...
also... the latest 4090 does NOT have DP 2.1... so it would be useless anyways!
the color fringing I agree tho...
Also... the BIGGEST concern with Oleds is their real desktop usage brightness... which has been lacking.
There will be a gigabyte 240hz 4k oled and probably 360hz 1440p variant with dp2.1 if you really need it. Though it's not needed as dsc works fine
Aorus new OLEDs will have dp 2.1, not sure when they release tho
@redacted1776 i heard only the 4k one has dp2.1
OLED monitors are absolutely beautiful but I’m too worried about burn in to buy one. It’s a pretty large investment so I really wouldn't want to be purchasing a new one for a really long time.
Yeah exactly. An endgame monitor like that you'd ideally want 5 years with, minimum. Minimum. And the warranties covering 2 years is a bit concerning because that means they know failures jump up after that time frame for the average user
@@richardcheese9152 This is exactly why I'm so conflicted. OLED TVs have been around for a while now, but the Windows interface always displays. Also, there are far less 1440p 240hz IPS options which pushes you towards OLED.

As soon as they start releasing budget oled monitors, then it will start making a lot of sense because the risk of burn it will then highly be worth it considering the value you get in return, and if you do ever need to replace it the price will finally be in the range where it wont be hard to accept.
People usually replace monitors in 3-4 years and using it daily for 4-5 hours will get burn in after 3-4 years with these current oled technologies.
You’ll be waiting YEARS for OLED monitors to reach “budget” pricing.
@@sermerlin1 No they don't. Lol. Gamers maybe. Most people don't even replace their computer every 3-4 years. Especially if it's a desktop thats powerful.

This is why QD OLEDs suck in anything but a dark room. Have had my fair share of experience w/ them & side by side its a night & day difference in black levels compared to a WOLED. QD OLED contrast is even worse than VA in an average lit room.

The new QD-OLEDs will be able to come curved or flat, matte or gloss with anti-reflective coating and even the inputs will change per model/brand on the 27" and 32", with some models even having Dolby Vision (Only the 32" it seems, and only some models). I'm looking at the HP Omen or the Gigabyte for the 32" as they have DisplayPort 2.1 (the Gigabyte having full DisplayPort 2.1), though the 32" are stuck at 240hz. The QD-OLED need a good anti-reflective coating because unlike the LG Panels, there is no polarizer. To be honest, I was hoping the panels this year would have Phosphorescent Blue OLEDs, which would allow them to be brighter and run longer with more stability, but it looks like they're not ready for this year.
I've been feeling the OLED craz as well.

I got the LG Oled monitor you previously reviewed about two months ago now and I have to say I’m honestly upset with how bad the pixel burn in is near the center of the screen already. I’ve used the pixel cleaning features quit a bit as well, it sucks how quickly it dies out for how expensive it is.
That’s why u should NEVER buy ANY product based on a CZcams channel’s recommendation. These guys get sent free stuff and get paid 5, sometimes 6 figure checks to shill products on their channel. This is one of the main reasons, I will never buy an OLED monitor. I don’t want to pay a premium price and then having to worry about it when using it like a normal PC monitor. For example, many people use their PC for desktop usage or leave their PC on for many hours and that’s gonna be a problem with OLED. to me, it’s like having a sports car but you gotta be wary of not revving up otherwise it might break

I have had the same monitor but only for about a month so this is quite worrying to hear. The other thing that bothers me in this video is that he says there's virtually no difference between the matte and glossy coating when in reality the matte coating has quite a horrible grainy look on white or near white images that I'm sure moving to glossy would solve. Bit of a hit to his recommendations for me unfortunately.
Also, no reviewers seem to say/care much about just how bad the dirty screen effect is on darker grey images. I had to return my first one because it was disgusting. Even my second monitor was only acceptable after running a compensation cycle.
It's awesome to see OLED tech climbing so fast, and glossy coatings. Once we start getting into the 40+ inch sizing, and 4k, count me in. Loving my 42" LG C2, no way am I going back in size or resolution, I'm spoiled now after a year. 4090 can run these settings at 220+ frames now in some of the worst optimized games, even on BF2042, so we are definitely there performance wise.

They're not expensive, and how stupid some of you look trying to make this about money. The technology has obvious downsides which will create problems to many of its users.
This is why MicroLED will be the ultimate answer
Sony doesn't even make its 2024 flagship TV an OLED btw
@Hirnlego999 sony panels has always been dogshit samsung and lg has always pushed the boundaries and been innovative for the past 2 decades. Burn in isn't a problem for these monitors. also u get 2 year warranty if that does magically happen. So yeah it is about money for you. Ppl make products seem bad and heavily flawed when they haven't even tried it. So why speak on it. LOL
Just want to add the upcoming 480hz W-OLED monitors are going to come with BFI(black frame insertion) technology as well(at least on the ASUS models).
This guy is literally the one i expected and hoped to be doing the video when i saw the title.
wohoooo,
Can't wait till you get your hands on the 480hz ones later this year
I'm considering trying the AW2725DF because the ASUS is an H2 release.. motion wise the 360 looks the same as the PG27AQN so I'm only interested if the OLED responsiveness is significantly better.
Would be interested to see more comparisons of the OLED technology as more iterations of this panel come vs last year's LG. Was very surprised to see deeper blacks washed out with even a glossy coating.
Just picked up the ROG PG27AQN. Thank you Optimum for the stellar recommendation. Warzone and The Finals are buttery smooth. Can't wait to see where the tech goes. :)
i think you hypnotized me with the word insane
Nice review. That is exactly the type of monitor I am looking for now all I need is for OLED to come down quite a bit in price. I just can't bring myself to pay over $500 for a monitor.
Just copped the ASUS PG27AQDM for 713 USD knowing full well there's a lot of good stuff on the horizon. Weaknesses expected (still shipping): text clarity (subpixel format), poor HD performance (mitigated by firmware updates), HDMI 2.0 (less of a concern, not a console gamer), some ambiguity about burn-in management, and matte vs glossy considerations (which is touched on briefly in this video as being less relevant)
I'm using a 32" 240Hz G7. hard to go back to 27" no matter how good it looks, it's essentially a medium size monitor vs miniature TV for consuming content and gaming, all while having 240Hz since years ago while people were playing with 27" IPS 165Hz and complaining this whole time.
I've bought the 240hz oled from LG after CES 2023, now waiting for 240hz 4k 27'' OLED (with dp 2.1, UHBR20) before I will upgrade again. ✌️
waiting for the new studio 🔥💯
good to see you playing The FINALS!
I just got the LG 27inch oled for 50% off brand new and its amazing, yeah its way smaller then my old 3440x1440 35inch VA and I need a few secondary monitors for work rather then using the ultrawide solo but man, the image quality and response time are insane. It do need some software to solve the text rendering problem and i isn't as bright (though its enough for me), but I don't think I can go back to lcd unless its micro LED. I think my next one is gonna be a 32inch 4k 240hz but I won't be upgrading for atleast 2 years from now.
When the price starts coming down on these OLED's I'll def buy one
new optimum vid lessssgooo
amazing content my guy, can you test the new razer huntsman v3 pro mini ??
Burn in is getting mostly solved, can't wait to see prices on these fall to the point where I can consider a 2nd OLED monitor in the glossy option. Then I can see for myself wether it even matters, but in my experience matte is more than fine.
