- This channel 4 documentary series takes you inside the emergency department of a busy hospital, where medical professionals work tirelessly to save lives and care for their patients. Witness the heart-wrenching moments and the joyous successes, and gain a new appreciation for the work done by healthcare workers every day.
This episode reveals what can happen when something goes wrong with the brain, including when patients suffer a stroke. Sixty-five-year-old cabbie Charlie Brown is making his second visit to King's in a week. Two days previously he crashed his cab and 'bulls-eyed' the window with his head. Also in A&E is 89-year-old Peggy Pierce. Her husband Derek woke to find her slumped semi-conscious over the bed and she's been rushed into King's with a suspected stroke. This isn't the first time Derek's had to take an emergency trip to the hospital with his wife, so he's braced for the worst. Meanwhile, in the waiting room, Sally is comforted by her ex-boyfriend Ben while she awaits treatment for a cut finger, and two boisterous friends entertain themselves with an imprompt ride around the department in a wheelchair.

I want to give Derrick a hug. "We're both past our 'sell-by' date." What a sweet man who clearly loves his wife while also facing reality.
Everyone should be so lucky to have a person like Zena in their lives. She just became his voice when he did not have the answers. I admire her so much.
Zena is a phenomenal human being. Caring, sensible, strong and loving.
Charlie Brown has the family we all wished for. Zena will be the matriarch of the next generation. If she has the strength to look after ailing in-laws AND a baby, she can truly handle anything.
Zena is amazing
Absolutely wonderful people!
Amazing daughter in law he is quite lucky with her.
Zena is an amazing daughter in law.
@@janyceparks8326 yes
Derrick is wonderful. He knows that his wife is more than likely dieing, and is trying to reassure the doctor that it's OK, he understands that she's going.
Ben and Sally are a shining example of what real friendship means.
Zena could run Parliament successfully from a phone booth.
I agree with everything that you said. Especially the part about Zena running Parliament. That woman is so devoted to her family and it seems her family appreciates her, which is is even better.
She either had an amazing strong mother as an example or had a terribly rough life growing up and is determined to be better and give more
Charlie Brown’s subdural bleed was huge! No wonder his symptoms were so severe and it’s a miracle he’s walking and talking at all. Retired RN here, prayers for him and his family.
Charlie is so lucky to have a daughter in law who is so aware and caring of him that she knew there was something wrong.
Peggy indeed was perfection. She is beautiful and loved. RIP
Wow. Zena is a rockstar! With all the medical stuff that she’s handling with Charlie and Patsy Brown, it’s amazing that she’s still standing herself!
She’s a wonderful daughter-in-law. They seem like a loving caring family.
So much love & respect for Zena!!
I read the comment earlier we all need a "Zena" in our lives & no truer words were spoken,❤️💯
One of the most touching shows. Zena is an amazing person and her baby is toooo precious. Charlie is so lucky to be alive, that was a LARGE bleed. Rest in peace, Peggy🙏🏻 Her husband was so sweet talking about her ♥️♥️. I was an ED nurse for 35 years in the United States and I loved my profession
Hi!!!!😊
@@Amy3130 Hello.
Utter genius in the production of this series. The sad and heart breaking next to the quirky and hilarious- well that is life, isn’t it?
I remember watching these on tv years back. Must be 8-10 years ago ....
Zena just broke my heart. I felt so terrible for her and her family.
Life is so precious and none of us are promised tomorrow.
No truer words spoken. Love and live. ❤
Zena is an amazing woman, she is an absolute gift. I just want to give her a hug.
I want to give young Zena a big hug.
Those 2 guys singing in the hallway, and the shenanigans at the end of the video... Hahahaha I love their friendship
The "Qualified" London🇬🇧Cabbie's are real Characters, &. Always know the most Direct &. Quickest way, to get you where you need to Go.😊
Wishing Charlie Brown,
All the very Best in his Recovery.😌
Yeah mate. Taking the Knowledge exam.
When I was a young graduate student in clinical psychology, one of my training jobs was in the emergency room of the local children's hospital as a grief counselor for parents whose kids died, some from illness or accident but many from gang related shootings. When you sit with a mother who has.lost 3 or.4 kids to gun violence....it's harrowing. One little girl was just two years old, killed in a drive by as her front porch was sprayed with bullets.
Zena hon you and your family are in my prayers! Hoping the best for all.
Bless the patients, their families, and the A-E team
Married people don’t act like that with the ex boyfriend or any other person!
Zena u r wonderful. Should be proud of yourself
I have to say, I absolutely ADORE CHARLIE BROWN’S & THAT SWEET ELDRLY FELLOW’S ATTITUDE ON LIFE, NEVER GIVE UP & TRY TO FIND HUMOUR EVERY DAY‼️❤️‼️🫶🏼‼️🙏🏼‼️❤️🥰🥰🥰❤️🇨🇦❤️🥰🥰🥰👍🏼👊🏼😁
Derrick is a gentleman and I admire his caring for his wife.
Zena is such a blessing to that family.
Zena is a rockstar.
Charlie Brown............ HUGS!
I was unresponsive last year from sepsis. I swear I can still feel the sternum rub 😩
Zena you are a diamond of a human. Love sent to you doll.
The girl in the beginning try to explain baby brain had me wheezing
I just saw it and laughed. I loved her very technical explanation of the phenomenon. 😊
@@LabNYorkie I no right! 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏
Yeah, it's from being overly tired, although people give it all kinds of names, but it certainly isn't from lack of brain cells!!
Love the two guys with the wheelchair 😂
Charlie Brown cleans up nice❗
Yes he does!
Ben and Sally have a friendship I can only hope to have
Listen to your wife charlie brown.she KNOWS best😘
Charlie Brown, what a delightful character! Hope the best for him!
The fact she needed a support person for a finger cut is just something… 😂
I often wonder if people like that would survive a zombie outbreak…
I bet her husband loved seeing her head on her exes chest.
No, no they wouldn't lol
And to bring her ex while her husband is out of town.. 😅
They would survive a zombie outbreak better than almost any other group I reckon, think about what zombies eat. Those type of folks are safe as houses from being sought out by zombies.
@@HolidayGlow I concur
Great hospital videos.
Oh man when Zena was crying it started me going
Love this show and updates!
Prayers for Charlie ❤
That porter, I think his name is Kevin? He cracks me up 😂😂
The exes have undeniable chemistry. I hope they’re at least still friends now, over a decade later.
Derrick is a beautiful soul bless him
THANKS
Wir müssen alle gehen! Am besten mit Liebe♥️
We must all go! Preferably with love ♥️
37:19 These two remind me so much of my twin brother and I!!!!! ❤❤
Don’t just walk through an ER…work or volunteer and see everything
Zena I salute you
I’m watching this while lying sick in bed with COVID.
Hope you are feeling better!!
Everyone needs a "Zena" in their lives
LOL!! That guy doesn't need the oxygen if he's able to talk on his cell phone. I'm surprised the ER allowed it. Here in my area they don't allow phones in the ER to protect patient privacy.
Big difference in the ER there at A&E than here in the states. Most not all but most ER’s here are greedy big time.
Wow if I called my Ex boyfriend to come to the doctor with me there would be a fight.
I was thinking the same thing, she had a boo boo on her finger and out of everyone she knew the only person that could take her, not even Uber or a taxi, or herself was her EX? While her husband was conveniently out of town? It was very telling that she never discussed him, and I’m sure he saw the episode when it aired…
Somethings a brewing, he needs to pay attention.
She is something else!
I guess I'm an ER veteran, but it amazes me that ppl think it should be first come, first served. Oh excuse me, I'll just let this gentleman who's been stabbed wait, even though he's bleeding to death, while we take care of your sprained toe!
Beautiful baby 😊
That guy was huge 😮
Charlie you r adorable
TF? That woman calling her ex because her husband was working?!
some people are mature enough to have a friendship after a relationship is over!
Why are u the only one saying that, over, and , over?
Sometimes I can barely get past the accent to understand what they're saying. The medical staff I understand okay, but the patients not so much. I'm in the mid-west U.S.
Use subtitles.
Her husband is at work so she called her X to go to the ER with her .😂 Crazy For a index finger . Acting like that .I live in the US maybe things are different in the UK
I like to stay friends with my exs if possible......we all need friends.
I think of them as siblings because I don't have any.
He's probably sitting there thinking.... Alwritre I'm getting LAID tonight 😂
I'm friends with all my exes.
@@michelleshelley995 😂
I'm was friends with all of my ex's before most of them have gone on!
this documentary is like 15 years old
89 and a heart storke. Whats the point. Shes lucky if she goes fast from that then a nursing home were she can be terminal for so long and thats a horrible way to go.
Charlie!!!!!
Where is Charlie’s son?
None of our business
How do you leave a child and forget sorry but thats a mothers responsibility in a hospital
That’s the best she could do. I’d rather be alone

'Baby Brain" - Not enough brain cells to what?
This woman cuddling her ex while she's got a husband, lord. There's some drama here LOL
Not very faithful my opinion
@@suziedebolt6619some people are mature enough to have a friendship after a relationship is over!
And sometimes there is more going on than meets the eye.
I don't think any woman especially one who is married should be having any contact with any sort of x that is someone who you are intimate with someone you have feelings for but it's just a boundary unless you two have kids then you should only be contacting pertaining to the children but I think that is out of line there are people that I work with are who are also friends with my husband there's just certain things that you do not do out of respect
Where is Dense husband?
Zena
None of our business is where
Where is zena’s husband, Charlie Brown’s son?
I’m sure her husband was thrilled that her ex bf was there
Especially when he watched this and saw the hugs they gave each other.
I always wonder if these folks have an eval from a speech language pathologist.
Sally looks like Patsy Stone!
Ben needs to look for love in different places. I once had a thing for a woman like Sally and it didn't end well
Butterfly's kinda honey your still in love with him.poos got nothing to do with it.
That lady with the cut finger trying to explain baby brain to her ex boyfriend…..she wants him back 100%
Ben is insanely handsome ! Jesus and I’m 60 saying that 😆
Don't worry.
19:20 Tamil!
Ex-Boyfriend? While husband is out of town? For a cut finger? Maybe the ex-boyfriend should call the husband to let him know what happened to his wife? Pffft!!!
Right??? I wouldn't even bother a friend or family for that - would wrap it in a towel and call a taxi. So very transparent.
What kind of person could do that a selfish person that's who
You can be friends .... Still. Put your Bible down
@@oregonsdank I disagree I mean he could of atleast called her husband
@@oregonsdank First!! I don't own a bible there Ken! and no you can not be friends with your Ex- it most certainly causes pain and discomfort to the other party! regardless of the attachment. When your grown up you will understand I'm sure .
If that chick with the cut finger ,(the married one 🙄) is indicative of the woman of today she really is a disgrace. He is too for that Matter. Some old school qualities that the both can benefit from.
Where is Zena's baby daddy, Charlie and his Wife are her in-laws, why is Zena handling this alone?
Well to be fair we have no idea what their circumstances are. They may only be able to help from time to time while dealing with serious difficulties of their own.
May be he couldn't get time off work. Don't judge something you don't know about.
No subtitles that for me is a no go😢
It should be there by law.. is it not in your country
He was rather rough with Peggy
The nurse
He was trying to wake her up...geez
Where is the husband of Sally?
None of our business
So many fat people smoking and eating junk. Britain is going the way of the U.S. The NHS won't be able to withstand the pressure. 10% of its budget goes to diabetes care--in the early eighties it was 1%. Obesity also causes cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and many different cancers. As for smoking--seriously?
Wow make sure your halo is straight, you are quite the finger pointer.
Ich gucke solche Sachen gerne aber lieber wäre mir das wenn es auf Deutsch übersetzt wird weil leider Gottes verstehe ich kein Wort von nie was die da sagen schade eigentlich
Why can't I shake the feeling that Peggy's husband overdosed her and failed the first time, but succeeded in killing her? He didn't appear at all grief stricken and it even seemed like he was trying to hide a grin @ 45:39
bullcrap
I disagree
Stop being a troll
That's an awful allegation to make.
How nasty you seem, he was just a very sad but classy man
Sorry didn't like zena she seemed false to me....she was his daughter in law so where was her husband.....his son....she's obviously alone and using Charlie and his wife as future backup
Nasty pasty, they said at the beginning he was away at work. So nasty to insinuate other stuff
@nickislade5533 That was Sally, who was there with her ex-boyfriend because her husband was away. This person is talking about Zena, Charlie's daughter in law. He was the cabbie who got into an accident a few days ago and had problems with coordination. While I don't fully agree with what they are saying, I also want to make sure you are aware of the different cases.
Edited to add: also, the "wife" is actually Charlie's sister
@@jujubug2000 actually I was referring to Geraldine Owens…. Zena was his daughter in law suggest you go re watch
@nickislade5533 I know she is his daughter in law. I rewatched many times but heard nothing about her husband. I know that Sally's husband was away at work, which is why I thought that was who you were referring to
@@jujubug2000 no read Geraldines comment again its at the end.
