  • Dive into the incredible flying capabilities of squids, and how they use flight as a survival tactic.
    --
In 1947, explorers noticed a strange phenomenon while crossing the Pacific Ocean. Somehow, small squid known to live deep beneath the waves kept appearing on the roof of their boat. The crew was mystified- until they saw the squids soaring above the sea for roughly 50 meters. How and why do these marine creatures take to the sky? Robert Siddall explores the high-flying capabilities of cephalopods.

Squids can fly in some sort of way.
I forgot what it's called but they jump far in the air so they can help out their teammates when they're getting inked by the opponent. I think it was called super jumping? Simply squids can fly or jump in the air very far.

Another reason why they'd fly close to the ground is due to something called the ground effect. by flying at an altitude lower than the wingspan of your aircraft, the air bounces off the water and back onto your wings, creating more lift.
