    Please don't let our awful music track distract from the great things Jordan is doing at Valiant Trailers. When we made this video we had selected an ambient track for the transitions with no beat and no guitar. Unfortunately during the edit we forgot to change the placeholder music. Lesson learned, ALWAYS proof the video before uploading to CZcams because once it is up you can never go back. Again, Jordan and Valiant had no part in this edit, just a mistake by yours truly "Playing with Sticks."

Then after getting to know them we were really surprised to find out that not only do they make some of the best trailers around, they are much cheaper then any trailer we have found in that quality range. They are starting to get a lot of interest from the lower 48, which is really exciting to hear. After doing this walkthrough and taking one out on a -20 degree day, we see why! As for the boondocking, once you start you will never go back! We truly love it. I would say 90% of our adventures are boondocking, I think 90% of our videos on here are boondocking as well.

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  Před 4 lety +1

      We completely agree. We haven't talked about it in any videos yet, but our galley door is probably the feature of our teardrop that drives us the most crazy. It is way too heavy, so small it doesn't protect us from the elements, and so high it makes putting a tent over it difficult. We often say we are going to put gas springs on ours, which would be really nice. But, we still haven't got around to it. If we were to build a teardrop or purchase one we would definitely create a pass through in the galley from interior to the exterior. There are so many times May and I wish we could just pass items to each other from the back to the inside. We use our galley more for storage than food prep. It would be so great to just quickly move those items from the galley to the bed when we hit camp. Back to your comment Mike. In person that back door is really large. Our family could definitely huddle together under it at night with chairs and be completely protected from the elements.

      Playing with Sticks, Yes, agreed - a pass through! Good one!

    • @harrymills2770
      @harrymills2770 Před 3 lety

      This isn't strictly speaking a "teardrop." The ORIGINAL idea was a very small, light, aerodynamic camper trailer that could be towed by a passenger car. The shape was part of what made it (more) towable by vehicles not strictly built as tow vehicles. Installing an outdoor galley in the rear made great use of that rounded back. The square back, with either top hinges or bottom hinges (for a RAMP!), is standard cargo-trailer stuff.
      You might be surprised at all the cargo-trailer companies who'll custom-build a toy hauler for you to your specifications. These also make excellent toy haulers. Roll out your snowmobile, dirt bike(s), 4-wheeler and that space becomes your sleep area.
      A lot of people are turning small (and large!) cargo haulers into DIY campers and toy haulers.
      There's a huge market of 4x4 owners, who don't need something tiny (and un-insulated) like the standard teardrops (Vistabule, etc.), and want something that can go anywhere they can take their 4x4s, and, as so much of the market is from the high country, you're seeing more and more companies like the one featured in the videos, who insulate them for winter camping. Small as they are, and insulated as they are, you could probably just crack the roof vent, hang a lantern, and be plenty warm in one in the middle of winter.
      The "teardrop" basic idea of small, very basic, very effective camping trailer that's CHEAP has expanded hugely in the last decade or so. They're more affordable and more rugged than the standard camper trailers, and with the Timbren suspension, very rough-and-tumble, which is what a lot of hunters and trekkers want.

I think I'd keep it mostly empty, because part of the appeal is being able to just pull over and grab some z's without any fuss or muss.

The cost of the truck (prob 3/4T) and camper is going to run close to 65-70K (assuming new). I like the taller design of this camper. I've interviewed dozens of companies and that is something most dont do. Tall ceilings. I know of only 2 other companies that make an off road tear drop that you can sit like a bench inside. Now if you had a micro bunkhouse model....thatvwould be an industry 1st! Us guys with 3 small kids are limited if not forgotten. All these off road campers are built for couples and not families. I get why....it just sucks lol.
    Will you be at the overland expo?

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  Před 4 lety +1

      Good to see you on here! It was the tall design that really impressed us as well. Before heading out to see the trailer the photos Jordan sent us looked just like a regular size offroad teardrop. But once I saw it in person, I thought to myself everyone is going to want one of these when these see it being towed down the highway. Love all your walkthroughs and interviews by the way, we haven't missed any (even your tactical videos are fun and we aren't even really into that scene). Do you happen to remember the names of those 2 companies that make the higher offroad teardrops? We like to have an idea of comparable teardrops when talking with folks in the comment section of our videos. My wife and I have been talking about the micro bunkhouse for a couple of years. Our family isn't ready and probably will never be ready to move into a full blown travel trailer. We still want our teardrop, which now puts us into the teardrop and rooftop tent category. But, man it would be fun to cram us all into the interior. We aren't one's to shy away from a cozy den with our little ones. We are predicting that as families continue to get into smaller and smaller trailers here in the States that some smaller models with bunks will start popping up. But, maybe that is just us being hopeful. As for the overland expo question are you talking Valiant and their trailers or us with Playing with Sticks?

I will shoot him an email to see if he has ever priced an AC for his trailers. If he hasn't yet, I guarantee someone else will be asking about it soon. Thanks for the great question Dan.
