I didn’t bail on ya Frank. Just found your channel a few weeks ago and I’m really enjoying it so far :)
Right on brother! You are so right about those GUYS lol!😊
Pal,,,,it's a good thing I'm retired. I found your vids on utube last night and stayed up all night watching your vid on the body prep for the 68 and 69 chargers. Then the series on chrone stripping and the revell spray can.
The chevy ralleys by far looked the most realistic even on my phone. Great tutorial frank.
Thanks for the education as always. 🏁
Great video! I love your commentary! You keep it fun and very informative
Well this just changed my opinion on to prime or not with Revell Chrome Spray. I agree the chrome has a much better depth to it with the primer/gloss black method. Another thing I didn't realize was how much it improves the durability of the Revell Chrome Spray. I've been spraying it onto straight plastic and if I look at the chrome wrong it will smudge no matter how long I've let it dry. Seriously, I have parts that have been sprayed 2 months ago I won't touch as it rubs right off and smudges. So I am going to do the prime/gloss black and see how much better it is in my own experience. Glad you did the decanting part too, thanks!
We Love you too Frank Awesome comparisons thanks
Yes, the Rallye wheels with black primer and gloss black under lay and chrome looked the most real. Had depth. Could see that on my end. (hah! I finished it) Ok, I gotta make some changes. Primer for one. Thank you for going through the science project.👍
Hey Frank, Chris here…….. great tutorial…… love it!!!!!!
Thanks Chris!
Another great video Frank, I'm sold on the Revell chrome. Thanks bro.
great vid Bud its in the archives 4 chur awesome stuff maybe paused and replayed a doz times thx again🤗😜 scooter d😎
Great video Frank! Thanks! 😎👍
GX1, TS2….there will be a test at the end 🤣 More great work as always Frank!! Blink 182 - Enema of the State, Janine 👍
Great video. A lot of really good information👍
Great tutorial! You've answered pretty much all my questions without me messing up my basement. LOL. Kind of a weird subject to get on during a painting tutorial, colonoscopy. I'll tell you that was the best nap I've ever had. Anyways you've got a great channel and Im gonna be up all night trying to remember that album cover you were talking about. Thanks for sharing.
I used Molotow chrome paint from their pen, no decanting needed, just pour into airbrush, worked great....
It takes too long to dry, if it ever dries at all. It’s not resilient and smears with the lightest handling. Molotow is an ink, and not a paint. Inks degrade over time more quickly than paint.
It’s fine for oleo struts on planes or touch ups on kit chrome, but just isn’t tough enough to withstand just about any handling.
@@FranksModelWorks Thanks, Frank very much, Boston Or Brooklyn:):):)
@@dwightatnorthernstar1820 neither…I’m from Queens. I did live in Brooklyn after I got married. I miss the food so bad.
While I was one of those who asked about decanting, I also realized you're much better a modeling than me, so I just took you at your word when you replied to my comment. But thanks for taking the time to film a process you knew wasn't going to work. How people can click off your videos is mind-boggling to me. Apparently, they don't have a sense of humor
It’s my pleasure…I don’t want to leave doubts in anyone’s mind (including my own). I’m gonna decant one more time for the last video that’s coming up- I want to make sure the crazing I got when I applied the Revell Chrome to the metal primed photoetch isn’t delivery related, and more of a compatibility issue. I suspect it’s a combination of both, but that’s why I’m going to experiment.
Thank you.
I have never used the Revell Chrome spray. I am a big fan of Alclad metal paints. Have you ever tried Alclad? I just want to add I recently found your videos and you do an excellent job with both your builds and videos. Please keep them coming
Just found your channel late today and have been enjoying your banter and the information. I had to hit the subscribe button as you will be a nice break from some of the other modeling channels. The one area that has given me troubles in the past was removing the thick clear lacquer layer as i am allergic to lacquer thinner, so the process was always not fun.
Removing the lacquer layer can be tough. Sometimes it takes the purple stuff, bleach, alcohol to get rid of it all. If I can, I’ll try to sand off what’s creating problems and then give it another dip. The sanding can compromise the clear and make it easier for the strippers to get the rest off. The last 11 words of the previous sentence can be very problematic if taken out of context.
@@FranksModelWorks No problems Frank, that's kind of what i had to do last time and was a pain as the lacquer was thick around the wheel lugs for example. I may have to do some tests now as i am wondering with how much the different base colors made i may want to try a dark blue or even plumb purple for a base coat.
@@FranksModelWorks 11 words .....🤣😂
I've been using Alclad, as well as the rechroming services for many years now, and obviously there is really no comparison between chrome paint of any type and vacuum metallizing, AKA plastic chroming. But it's hard to find people to do it anymore. I have not tried Revell chrome yet, but the main question I have of it is, Can it be black washed when used on a grille or similar part? That's the main failure of the airbrush chrome paints, they all go to that ugly smudged look when you try black washing, which is imperative in model car building.
That’s actually the next part of the series…applying paint and decals to “chromed” photo-etch emblems, and washes to Revell Chrome sprayed parts.
I'm trying to get the hang of spraying chromes. I might have to try the Revelle Chrom. Oh, as a fellow Blink fan, I know ( I think that's Jenna Jameson) I have Dude Ranch and the self titled albums, but Dammit is a song that I lived when I was a young, single dude.
Me too! Dammit came out when I was going through a breakup and I’ve loved them ever since!
Those wheels with the gloss black prep look great! A very good "in scale" chrome appearance.
What is an "in scale" chrome appearance? 😂
@@nismojukerich2994 It's when it actually looks real. The chrome plating straight out of the kit looks too toy like to me.
I say for what you are using it for that decanting it is not worth it. Spry from the can and be done with it! It looks fantastic! Finally I can fix the chrome flash and make my models look more realistic! Thank you for the video!
I like Track Tribe for video music!
Blink 182.... Enema of the State.... I agree great band!
Paint you can kinda fake and correct. Chrome on the other hand is a different story. Looking for an additional method(s) besides foil. . I did not bail. Watch in segments. Look! squirrel! Its great to have you running all the traps for us. The humor is the icing on the cake.😆Loling a lot.
Frank, great tutorial on using Revell's chrome spray paint. I just picked up a can and will be using it soon. Since I don't air brush I need to use spray cans. Do you think that the Revell chrome would work over Tamiya gloss black lacquer out of a spray can?
It probably will work fine, but you know my mantra by now: Test first, and NOT on the project!
We have to work on convincing you to get an airbrush! I just ordered a Gaahleri airbrush (I need another airbrush like I need a hole in my head) and it looks like they have some really affordable setups on their site. I’ll probably do a review of the airbrush when it gets here.
What do you think about holding can upside down and then decant all the gas out. Now take a can opener and drain the paint into a jar. I want to try this but what do you think, will it work?
Funny you should mention that because I just got this emailed to me.
czcams.com/video/og2ZmbRKtkI/video.html
I ain’t tryin it. If I mess up and the can explodes, I’m gonna have to find a new place to live. The Mrs. would show me the door.
Maybe I'm being dumb regarding the decanting ...... and not sure if you were rejecting the use of a "straw" or not ...... but I use a lot of WD-40 for many purposes. Spray cans of WD-40 come with small diameter red straws that fit into the spray nozzle, so users can direct the spray into tight areas without the liquid getting everywhere you may not want it. Would that red "straw" from WD-40 fit the nozzle of the Revell chrome spray nozzle, to make decanting less messy?
(I think "Lock-Eze" brand lubricant spray cans might also have straws, for directing spray into lock cylinders)
The diameter of the cylinder that houses the nozzle hole is too big for that straw. My second attempt (the one filmed and in the video) was less messy, but still not very productive.
There is a way to gas out the propellant using what looks like a vice, a hole punch and an industrial can opener, but that’s adding more expense to decant a can of paint that already costs $30. And that’s with the provision that it works on the first try, and you don’t have the can explode all over the place (which WILL happen to me, guaranteed).
It doesn’t make sense for me financially to keep trying to decant it for one potential use for it, which might not work anyway because the heart of the issue may be compatibility and not delivery method.
I’m going to do it (probably today), to test if it’s a compatibility issue or a delivery issue, but it will likely be the last time I do it…regardless of the outcome. The expense doesn’t warrant it.
@@FranksModelWorks Hobby Nut Models has the Revell Chrome, in case anyone is looking for it.
The only way I would consider decanting the Revell Chrome, is to use the drill a hole in the very top of the can close to the nozzle, let it de-gas, then pour it into a bottle. The only reason I would consider doing so, is yes, the Revell spray is expensive, and by decanting it that way, you can use less of it per session, thereby making the can last longer. Would you be will to try that method of decanting as a test to see if it works?
Nope! lol….if I screw up and the can explodes, the Mrs. will have my head!
@@FranksModelWorks Completely understandable my friend! LOL
@@FranksModelWorks just be sure to drill it in the middle of her new kitchen 😳🙃😛😛😛🤥
Pricy decanting. Frank the heck with naysayers. I agree just spray from can. Besides I have hard time finding that chrome.
It’s not easy to find. I think Burbank’s House of Hobbies still has some in stock.

so results wise whats the dif between molotow and revell 🤔😁🤩thx 4 bringing this up😛
Molotow looks good, but takes a long time to dry (that’s if it ever dries). Molotow is ink, and hasn’t been used in our hobby for an especially long time so there isn’t data on longevity. Molotow is minimally resilient and doesn’t withstand handling.
Revell looks better, and has the versatility to look like real metal that has been chrome plated, or as kit chrome (if that’s the desired final result), depending on preparation. It is also the most resilient and handleable coating product I have tested, and I have tested pretty much all of them.
Thx dou👍😁
The only benefit I could see to decanting it would be to reduce waste due to overspray, but you waste so much trying to decant it that you at best break even, and likely not even that. I'll stick to the blood tests until I have to go. I've had one alien abduction (colonoscopy) Not a fan. Great video.
Chrome! Chrome! And more Chrome! Chrome is my favorite color! Dale Horner of little motor car Co. Used to be my go to for re plating chrome parts! Now that was real chrome! Was as good as steel parts with chrome plating! We all seem happy with the chrome paint! Looks pretty good from my house Frank! I shot my alclad and others while my gloss black was still wet or tacky like me! Would like to try over a blue base also, since chrome has a lot of blue in it 🤔👍🏻🫡🇺🇸
Hi Fank! I have an RC boat that I want to paint a Chrome/Red candy. But it needs to be semi durable. What would you recommend?
Sheesh, that’s a tough one. I honestly don’t know.
Blink 182 Enema of the state. Did they give you the drink to clean yourself out. It hits all at once!!! Good luck Frank.
Oh, they absolutely did give me the drink to clean me out. I hate that stuff. The worst part about the whole thing is the night before.
@@FranksModelWorks been there done that. The sedation was cool though LOL
Great information frank. I would have never thought of using revell chrome.i will have to give it a try
Blink-182 Enema of State, Janine Lindemulder
Will if I would've waited until part 3 video I wouldn't have asked about decaning after part 2. Sorry mybad.
Just a little advice for the colonoscopy. When you ask the doctor where you should lay your pants, if he says “just lay them over there by mine”, get the hell out of there!
That, and if the doctor is wearing a sleeveless flannel shirt and cutoff denim shorts, it’s time to run…
Blink
well @Joethemodelbuilder beat me too it. 😆 Except... Janine Lindemulder. Already using the 1500 black, so this will be great to try since I grabbed a can of the Revell about a month ago. Appreciate the testing method.😁
Ah, Janine……………
(That was ENTIRELY too many ellipses)
Don’t forget the Tamiya X1 Gloss Black after the primer for the best results!
