- ► Are you in the market for a used BMW e90 - 3 Series from 2005 - 2011 , 320i, 328i , 330i and 335i ? If you're just starting the research phase or if you're actively in the purchasing process, this video covers what you need to know about differences between the models of the BMW E9X chassis. Gareth Foley, the BMW Catalog Manager here at FCP Euro, touches on the body types, model designations, trim packages, engine variants, transmissions, suspension, brakes, and interior options available across the E9X spectrum. The E90, E91, E92, and E93 models are covered in all models except for the M3. We will have an entirely separate video covering the M3 in detail at a later date. We cover all 3 Series from 2005 - 2011 , 320i, 328i , 330i and 335i .

CORRECTION - Our graphic @9:26 shows "N"57 and was intended to show "M"57 for the Diesel 335d variant. Apologize for the mix-up, our graphics department misheard and acronyms are hard.

Such a great entry level BMW model
Thanks Jonathan that was our goal, much more indepth and technical look into things in the coming videos!
Thank for your valuable time and information...Hats off..👏👍🙏.. Really love to watch your videos all the time with very valuable info..
Great video! Very informative! Learned so much. Cheers!
Fantastic as always guys!
Thank you for taking the time to explain all the various configurations. Just got my 2011 328i xdrive N51 6 speed manual, yesterday. One owner under 50k miles. I’m 40 minutes away from your store. Plan on visiting you for many years to come.
Look forward to seeing you!
Same here only mine is automatic
Thank you for posting e90 info!
You're welcome, Tomas! Thanks for watching!
Good video bro. Thanks for the video
Great job! Man u know your e9x's!!
Great video!
I’m on my 4th e9x. Super fun to drive and relatively easy to work on DIY.
Thanks Chris, they really are all around great cars. Although they have a good amount that can go wrong (as we will go into in a future video) they are fairly manageable from a DIY perspective!
FCP Euro you guys are always there to provide parts quickly and accurately.
I love coming to your “coffee and cars” days!!
Nice video. Im looking to get a n52 again
I have a 2007 328i Sport Sedan. Seems to sit lower than non sport models and the wheels are wider and staggered. It's my first BMW. I like it, but wish it had more power. Next one will likely be a twin turbo variety. I bought mine this year in Florida with 97k miles for $4700. I think I got a good deal.
These are cool videos on the e9x platform. Worth the watch
Thanks, glad you like them!
What a great content!
Amazing content.
Thank u this was so informative
Thank u for watching king rush 187 WEST! Glad you found it informative.
Great video! Great information for someone shopping. Little vague in the braking section though. The 328i, 2006 330i, and the 335i all have different size brakes (pads/rotors). Those model’s brakes increase in size respectively.
Glad you like the video, Evan. Good point on the brakes, maybe we can do a video specifically on E9X brakes!
Yeah, that was exactly what was suprising to me. Brakes are very different.
im really excited for more.
Plenty of E9X content publishing in the coming weeks! Thanks for watching bjornsmasher66
FCP and this Guy have been the greatest help in all the information I have sought for servising and maintaining my faithfull 2012 328ix E91 LCI grocery getter...:) Cops never pull over Wagons.......He he he!!!! ;)
Good information..✌👍
I wish there were a 1-Series video to go along with the E9x's, even if they're very similar. I found FCP after being on the market for the E91, but there's a trade-in128i Coupe work that is a steal for me... I'm just hoping the similarities are close enough. Been a helpful and insightful page thus far.
Go for a 135, you won’t regret it
I’m on my 1st e91 330xd m57n2 . Super nice car
3 Series diesels in the states only came with M57 engines. N57 stateside is in the F10 535d and the F15 X5 35d.
Thank You! Great Vid. Now we are just that much more informed. My son and I have tossed around the idea of adding an E92 to our Euro stable. The wife just rolls her eyes. Time for something new to tinker with. We want an unsuspecting....
Glad you like the video, GMAN! Let us know if you pick up an E92 (wife on board or not 😆)
so what did you guys decide?
Please do one for the f3x next. This was super imformative
Its on the books Ben! Glad you found this one informative.
Dont forget the taillights. Dead giveaway between pre LCI and post LCI. The LCI ones are really nice looking and are LED. At least the EU ones. Not sure for the NA ones.
Very sad we didn't get the 335d Touring here, that would be the perfect car to me.
great video, very informative, excellent production quality!
Thanks Powerlove, glad you liked the buyer's guide!
I didn't know that the E90 series was so different in the US.
In germany you had much more different motor options, especially when it comes to the diesel versions.
Nice video!
Glad you like the video, TheHeadyS! Yeah...we didn't get ALL the cool stuff here in the U.S. 😄
We only got the wagon in 328 here
I paid 2k (GB) for an e91. SE, sparkling graphite, m57, manual. Has 130k, pipercross filter, Eibach springs and Proxes sports on the standard style 161's. Unassuming to look at but the torque is laid down well.
Roundabout to roundabout in the wet she holds her own. I adore the car.
You got a great deal man. Any issues with timing chain or injectors so far?
Sweet video
Sweet rockcrawler snowwolff E9X, Glad you liked the video!
I mean I have bmw 325i with the N53 engine with 218 bhp 2008 but I think the EU market was very different as we have more engines
I'm gonna need the wheel style from the Black E91.
It was a great video. Just the background music was a little bit loud. Wish you would get rid of it in the next videos
Great great stuff, excellent and much clear esplanation. Something I couldn't catch from lots of 'Europeans BMW experts'.
I shall say some US mechanical informer revealed tight greman secrets... 😅😅😅
sport package doesnt come with bumper, thats part of the m package, sport package is only seat, steering and suspension
What style wheels are on the e91?
I love my E91. ♥️♥️♥️
Snap ! My e91 is beauty 👍
320ise coup hard top 2007? what is this classed as? e????
You have missed the 323i in the Canadian market. Amazing video though 👍🏻👍🏻
whooops😳of course the Canadians got the 323i... Thanks for the heads up Firas Alwakeel!
@@fcpeuro I also emailed you a month ago requesting to add 323i on your online catalogue and I have not even got an acknowledgment reply from you. Please add the 323i to your catalogue.
This or a f31 330ix is my issue. Both got good and bad things about them
The pic you used for the f30 was actually an e92/3 lol
A bonus with the SULEV cars is they carry a 15 year 150k warranty on a lot of parts. As long as they reside in the state they were purchased in.
Thats an interesting TidBit Jason! Good to know.
Critical. The stealer replaced the fuel injectors and eccentric shaft sensor under the sulev 15 year warranty without charge.
@@albertlee9220 yes. I had my valve cover, valve cover gasket, eccentric shaft sensor, and a couple other parts replaced free of charge when I discovered an oil leak. Saved me 4k in work.
My 328 i is a 2011 and it has the gm tranny so its not only on 2007-2009
The E90 335D uses the M57 engine, not an N57 engine
Robert you are completely right, our graphics team misheard him and assumed it was "N" not "M" we will put it in the description. Appreciate the insight.
Depends on a market, USDM 335d used m57, EUDM has n57
@@fastboatster he was specifically talking North American market for this video.
great video. question. on a 2011 328i or 328i x-drive would they use the same brakes and rotors? Thank you
Illidio, for the most part yes unless the vehicle is equipped with the BMW Performance brake kit.
Great video, but im a little confused... is the 316i/d, 318i/d, 320i/d and 323i not availible to NA?
No, except for maybe 323i which was available in Canada, but not too sure
When you guys do the e9x m3 video you should talk about some interchangeably between parts if there are any lol
There certainly are, and we certainly will!
@@fcpeuro yesss thank you sooo much I work at a bmw dealership and the m3 I'm looking at the trunk and hood struts are shot, but looking at a normal e90 the struts should work but the parts numbers dont match, so it would be nice to know which parts are interchangeable, I look forward to that video😁😁
@@vtecboi18 you can also always check our site using the part number or your car, and go to the fitment tab and it would let you know as well!
How much does the suspension part of this video apply to the E84 X1? It's a nightmare to find parts specifically for that but everything I read seems to say that it's the same as the E9X suspension.
Hey Father, suspension components are identical front and rear as it shares all E9X arms front and rear.
e92 320i is available in malaysia .
What OEM wheels are on the white E90 Sedan there? I'm wanting to change up mine.
Miles, those are BMW Style 285 wheels.
There is also 323i available.
I thought all LCI 328 xdrive sedans had the GM auto trans? How can I tell which one I have?
Check the oil pan of the trans, usually the GM ones came with a metal pan, while the ZF ones have a plastic pan
Hello FCP EURO.
I'm from Iran. Im following your channel for months and Thank you so much for your awesome and informative videos you are doing a great work.!!!
As you revewied all the parts of the Mercedes W 211 models. You reviewed the engine Transmission suspension system and buyer's guide. Basically a complete package about Mercedes W 211 model.
I wanted to say if it is possible please do a complete whole package about BMW 5 series E60 Which is the main competitor of the Mercedes W 211 model. The M power series and M sport series Even though E60 5 Series is pretty old but Mercedes W 211 was also old. But E60 5 series are still running on the roads despite they are made in 2003 to 2010.
That will be an awesome and informative video series.
Thankyou you so much for you great videos and hard work.!!!
Huhammadreza, thank you so much for following along with our videos, we definitely have E60 in the pipeline. You are right, even though they are older, plenty of cars are still on the road just like the W211. What do you drive?
@@fcpeuro Unfortunately nothing. Here in Iran Cars in Domestic Production, are illogically expensive, they have a high price and a low quality. And also it is hard to maintain a 2nd hand car because parts are also expensive due to Economic Sanctions.
I'm an automotive technician and also my major in Technical School is auto mechanic. And I work on European imported cars in a BMW and Mercedes Special repair shop. I'm not the owner of shop i just work there. Cars we work on mostly are european cars such as: BMW M sport and standard Models of BMW and all Mercedes Models.
But my speciality is BMWs.
I work mostly with diagnostic tools and diagnostic programs. Obviously when these kind of cars have issues you should check them with the diagnostic tools. Unless you have a good experience about repairing these kind of cars.
Basically my specialties are diagnosting, electronics and also ECUs.
Which european cars have modules for every section of the car.
I also research and study about Tuning. However tuning is not very popular in Iran.
Thankyou so much for your Reply FCP EURO.!!!
@@muhammadrezasadeqi2919 That is very interesting! Diagnosing and electronics are some of the most difficult and often frustrating parts of automotive maintenance and repair, especially with how complex modern cars are. It's important to have more people like you that are experts in that field!
@@fcpeuro Thankyou so much. It's very kind of you.!!!
Sorry, If you don't mind I have some questions About FCP EURO.
I wanted to know further information about Recruitment in FCP EURO and also some other questions.
I became very Interested in FCP EURO, because it's a great Organisation, and very Exclusive in the automotive world.
And where can I get in touch with FCP EURO, for further information.?
Have you ever experienced any shuttering on the e90 vehicle’s? If so any solution to that?
What kind of shuttering? Can you be more specific?
Does the base model equipped with sports package come with the sports suspension?
Yes, my E91 sportswagon has it
United states how to have a 330d it comes with N57 engine and 180kw or 250 horsepower.
I do own it and in 5 years i can only say best car ever if you look at economy and power.
plus the BMW is a drivers car, so handling comes from factory
BMW made a 2L 129hp version for the European market but they won't admit that to the American customers because they'll laugh at them. Great vid!
They also put the 335i and 335d in the wagons for Europeans.
Fun fact: Canada had the 323i 2.5 litre n52
Iove my e93 ❤
I'm into day 3 with an '09 335i. Left front turn signal is out, bummer; love it otherwise. Great vid!
Brance yourself for what’s to come. Like the eccentric shaft sensor, water pump/thermostat, oil filter housing gasket, solenoid/vanos, valve cover gasket, high pressure fuel pump and valvetronic motor to name a few.
@@Gino20202 lol are you mad?
Atleast its breaking you in lightly 😉😆Good luck on your 335i journey, I'm sure youll love the car. If you ever need any help dont hesitate to reach out!
@@Gino20202 3 years with a 335i, none of those issues. Sounds like someone bought a badly maintained one... anyways, don't buy a 335i if you can't handle maintenance costs.
erttu I have an F10 535xi with the N55 engine. I won’t have any of the problems you will. But lol@the typical “you can’t handle the costs” comment. Are BMWs and Audis considered expensive cars?.. I can understand that comment for a Lamborghini or other super car, but an entry level BMW 335 of *all* BMWs to make that comment about?..
Live in Europe and own a 316i 1,6 litre 122 hp
i am looking to buy my first bmw and im in the research phase. i am between the e46 and e90. this video was SUPER helpful. can you please make a similar video on the E46 generations? I want to get a a 4 door, 3 series, xdrive, that is reliable and great for a first time buyer. any reccomendations would be really helpful. any other youtubers with some advice would be appreciated!
Wasn't the 325i always a 2.5 ltr and not a 3.0 ltr N52 engine.
This was similar with 525i also. the 530i had a 3.0ltr N52
thats how it was originally set up yep, usually it was the same engine with a bigger bore tho^ E46 was almost this system with the 320i = 2l / 323i 2,3l / 328i 2,8l engines, but the facelift versions (with new engines) destroyed the system with 320i 2,2l. Although the 316/318 models didnt have the "right" engine sizes according to branding for a long time
Ok why is it e9X for all the models but for the f30 the m cars are f8X
still waiting on the e9x m3 vid :)
Its on the Horizon Kevin we promise. We do atleast have a DIY coming out for it next Monday ^.^ but the buyers guide will be here too eventually.
M3 you forgot it !!!!!!!!!!!
Nice and perfect video
BimmerN53
Do the f30!!
Don't worry Luke we plan to!
on map its not f30, its e92 lci on photo :)
i think there are 335i wagon and 320i sedans etc
Yes, but not in the US
These are fantastic cars, but there is one simple rule: be ready to basically pay the amount equal to the purchase price to make them proper E9X again. In other words: a 100K mile N52 car ($7K) will require new front struts, news shocks front and rear, probably half of bushings replaced, new brakes front and rear, water pump / thermostat, drive belt, diff fluid and transmission fluid/filter changed. I don't mention cosmetic issues inside and out (there is nothing special here, with the exception of bi-xenon headlights that can give you a lot of headache). And, oh, N54 is a very different story too.
K Golovynsky you forgot the painfully common eccentric shaft sensor, oil filter housing gasket, hfpf and vcg. There’s a 100% chance all will fail.
@@Gino20202 And Valvetronic? ;) I was talking about the most obvious preventive maintenance only :) But I still think they are worth it. One just need to be realistic.
K Golovynsky I know you were, but that’s all normal wear and tear. Someone could be blindsided with some of those problems. I speak from experience..
@@Gino20202 100%. 2007 E92, 2009 E90, and 2006 E91 - in that succession :)
It’s true, I can only recommend e9x to someone who works on cars themselves, I changed all of what you mentioned and it cost me around 2.5k. If I took it to a garage it would cost easily double that. But now the car drives and feels like a new car and it’s amazing so it’s definitely worth it if u can do the work yourself.
Also when it comes to shocks/struts and springs it’s best to upgrade them. I upgraded to bilsteins b12 kit. It was only around 300 more than standard but definitely worth it.
I am looking to buy one of these cars .
we hope the buyers guide helps you find the right one!
Gonna buy one before it gets hit with the drift tax and the price shoot up lol .
Definitely not a bad idea 😂
Great video but very false that the n55 is more reliable than n54. The history for data shows the n54 (non-turbocharged) is widely more reliable that the n55 (turbocharged)
N54 is twin-turbo
Most BMWs before 2018 in Europe are diesels. The old bmw diesels were amazing (expect the n47)
Wtf? No they aren't. 20% more diesels than petrol isn't "most".
@@miikapalokangas5348 yeh most was an overstatement. More would be a better use of words. Most before 2013 would make better sense
@@B2KJFF most after 2013 would be an even better use of words
0:52 that does not look like a f30 to me
E91 xDrive wagon all day long.
Love mine
Love mine rear wheel drive E91:)
Dang... I always thought an E92 looked really good for a car made in 1992. Now it all makes sense
Talk about stupid 😂
I find leaving out Volvo as a competitor disturbing.
Gareth sometimes forgets that Volvo exists. Good thing he is the BMW catalog manager 😆
Doesn’t tell you which ones are good and bad. The N54 was terrible! N55 much better
