  • ► Are you in the market for a used BMW e90 - 3 Series from 2005 - 2011 , 320i, 328i , 330i and 335i ? If you're just starting the research phase or if you're actively in the purchasing process, this video covers what you need to know about differences between the models of the BMW E9X chassis. Gareth Foley, the BMW Catalog Manager here at FCP Euro, touches on the body types, model designations, trim packages, engine variants, transmissions, suspension, brakes, and interior options available across the E9X spectrum. The E90, E91, E92, and E93 models are covered in all models except for the M3. We will have an entirely separate video covering the M3 in detail at a later date. We cover all 3 Series from 2005 - 2011 , 320i, 328i , 330i and 335i .
Checkout our E9X Owners Page: info.fcpeuro.com/bmw-e9x
CORRECTION - Our graphic @9:26 shows "N"57 and was intended to show "M"57 for the Diesel 335d variant. Apologize for the mix-up, our graphics department misheard and acronyms are hard.

thats how it was originally set up yep, usually it was the same engine with a bigger bore tho^ E46 was almost this system with the 320i = 2l / 323i 2,3l / 328i 2,8l engines, but the facelift versions (with new engines) destroyed the system with 320i 2,2l. Although the 316/318 models didnt have the "right" engine sizes according to branding for a long time

These are fantastic cars, but there is one simple rule: be ready to basically pay the amount equal to the purchase price to make them proper E9X again. In other words: a 100K mile N52 car ($7K) will require new front struts, news shocks front and rear, probably half of bushings replaced, new brakes front and rear, water pump / thermostat, drive belt, diff fluid and transmission fluid/filter changed. I don't mention cosmetic issues inside and out (there is nothing special here, with the exception of bi-xenon headlights that can give you a lot of headache). And, oh, N54 is a very different story too.

K Golovynsky you forgot the painfully common eccentric shaft sensor, oil filter housing gasket, hfpf and vcg. There’s a 100% chance all will fail.

It’s true, I can only recommend e9x to someone who works on cars themselves, I changed all of what you mentioned and it cost me around 2.5k. If I took it to a garage it would cost easily double that. But now the car drives and feels like a new car and it’s amazing so it’s definitely worth it if u can do the work yourself.
Also when it comes to shocks/struts and springs it’s best to upgrade them. I upgraded to bilsteins b12 kit. It was only around 300 more than standard but definitely worth it.
