I'll never forget as a kid seeing Beckham, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Ferdinand and Terry walk out for England and THINK IT WAS NORMAL😭😭😭😭😭
No they were overrated m8 italy had a better team in 2006 brazils 3 r s were better and french team and spains midfield in 2010 all of em better than england 1998 2010.overrated england
@@donrobbie2629 agreed
Hey mate are you gareth southgate in or out?.
@Samuel Jamieson yeah I agree but I would love graham potter.
@@rehan4223 I'm sorry lampard and gerrard were world class genuinely
An absolute crime that he didn't go better with the England team that he had
Samuel Jamieson just remember Italy, Brazil, France etc all had better teams
@@greatestanalyser2354
I wouldn’t say Italy had a better team. Neither had Portugal in whom we got knocked out by twice.
@Lennon Connor yes, Italy had a better team by far, also had inzaghi who was bang on form and pirlo
We went out to bad luck really
In 2004 we should have won the Euros
I still remember England v Portugal like it was yesterday in 2006. Losing to Ronaldo’s Portugal with 10 men after showing blood sweat and tears was a very difficult pill to swallow. Even though the team did not win anything just to think England had a team of Robinson, Neville Ferdinand Terry Cole, Beckham Gerrard Lampard Scholes, Rooney Owen. Absolutely insane 🤯🔥
This man seems like he winged his managerial carrer
He played Scholes out wide 😭
you had to because lampard and gerrard were in the middle
huh?..Scholes never played WC 2006 with Frank Lampard and Gerrard as he retired in '04...2006 the topic of discussion of this vid
This man single handedly destroyed that team by playing a formation that forced Scholes to play LM. He doesn't deserve anything more than getting knocked out
U wouldn’t of done anything better
@@charliegreenway6746 because I am not a manager managing at top level football for 15 years lol
Fun fact Scholes played as Lm in united. People forget that
@@xjohn9295 no he didn't?😂. Giggs did
@@xjohn9295 Wtf? Who told you that? Get a lawyer to sue him/her
This guy gets a lot of hate for no reason, because he had golden era of England team fit into a team.
You have to admit, he's had some management career like him or hate him.
B@llocks
@@connormcleod9595 You can't just judge him during his time with England mate
So glad he has his own brain and respects Liverpool, unlike rival fans who are jealous of us because their team sucks ass
I admire a man that admits there are some regrets in life. It really grated on me when people say they don’t have a single regret. It just doesn’t make sense and you’re delusional if you don’t have regrets. This man has some knowledge and wisdom albeit not the greatest manager of all time but a decent one
Lennon Connor I don’t know about a fraud mate, he has won some serious silverware in his managerial career. You don’t win 5 league titles in 3 different countries by being a fraud. He won most of it early on so maybe he didn’t keep up with the changes in football.
Lennon Connor I understand I was fuming at the time with it all and it still hurts now but I just can’t deny the fact that previous to England he was a very successful manager.
Lennon Connor thanks too, nice to have a difference of opinion without being called all sorts of different names haha 😂 I can’t stand it so I try my best to be nice 👍🏼
Unfortunately it was also Portugal’s and Italy’s golden generations too...
Yeah but in both games Portugal was there for the taking
France, Italian and Holland’s also
@@mr__OK not forgetting Argentina up until the knockout stages was probably the best team in the tournament
@@paulhynes170 when? 2002?

Seeing this mans face just annoys me. Picking Walcott over the Defoe has to be one of the most ridiculous decisions ever.
I always felt he did that because the FA sacked him
Defoe wouldn’t had started anyways ahead of Rooney or Owen.
yup im not bothered by Erickson playing Scholes at LM Euros 2004 but not picking Defoe WC '06 came back to bite em in the a$$ bigtime with the injuries
The guy was hired because of Englands mentality of the 442. Even though Keegan spectacularly failed with that formation. The top clubs in England were still using it. Should never had sacked Hoddle. But the press and public didn't like his 352.
How did we not win anything with that squad, will never understand? 😅
2002 Squad weakest players...
Mills
Brown
Heskey
Bridge

Vassell
Sheringham

A few top class players doesnt make a good squad. When you have to play Mills, Bridge, heskey and trevor sinclair against Brazil youre in trouble before the match begins.

2004/2006 we lost to a Portugal team that was so packed that Rui Costa was on the bench 😭
I was 10 years old when this happened. I was convinced the cup was ours with the team we had. Heartbreaking doesn’t even cover it. Never been nearly as emotionally involved with the England team since.
But one day we’ll win it.
if you could be asked which former player was a better player between steven gerrard or frank lampard who would choose wisely guys honestly even although is so hard and also a very difficult question to ask it should really need simply simple answer
England are painful every tornement bar the last world Cup.
@Lennon Connor exactly lolll 🤣 easiest run ever n still lost to Croatia in extra time 😐 the man is a fraud. We need a manager that wants to play attacking.
They missed one... Ulrika or Faria?
Even if they had beat Portugal there was no way they were beating that France team with a possessed zidane.
Euro 2004 was probably his best chance at winning a major tournament with England he just could not move away from the 4-4-2 formation when Rooney went off injured he should have changed the formation to a 4-3-3
This is an argument against 24 hour TV sport channels
Everyone talks about England’s “golden generation” did you not see the team line ups from other nations 🤦
We had no chance.
English teams were dominating the champions league at the time also... They had a team full of some of the best players in Europe, they should've done better than quarter finals... Even Southgate got England further with nothing in comparison.
@@saneman6188 first of all golden generation was from about 2002-2007.
In that time only Liverpool won champions league and only had 2 English players on the pitch (Gerrard and carrager) they rest were all foreign.

Plus using your own argument against you when we lost to Portugal in 2004 , Porto had just won the champions league só going off your argument we should have had no chance cause a Portuguese team had just won the champions league 😘
@@mr__OK 2006 was considered England's golden generation... 2002 they had players like Trevor Sinclair, Danny Murphy, Danny Mills, Heskey, Vassell, Dyer etc etc... No Lampard, no Rooney, no Terry etc... They almost didn't even qualify for the tournament...
Porto won the CL due to mourinho's tactical genius not because they were the best team, granted Portugal were decent in '06 but the players you list Figo was 33 & well past his best, Ronaldo was 21 & a million miles from the player he turned into, Rui Costa was so old he was retired by then... Where as the England team was full of players all in their prime who were PL & CL winners by then... In '06 England were ranked number 1 in the world by fifa & went in as tournament favourites along with Brazil, the only other 2 teams that could match them both on paper were prob an aging France team, & Italy who were in the throws of a massive Serie A corruption scandal that had seen juventus relegated.
@@saneman6188 again based on your argument 2006 Barcelona won the World Cup, not an English team 😭.
2006- Rooney was not where near full fitness after coming back from broken metatarsal, Gary Neville was way past prime (31), Beckham was heading to la galaxy (31), Michael Owen got injured in first came, carrick was no where near the player he went on to become.
Our team had its issues aswell.
On paper France, Brazil, Italy and even Holland had teams to match us mate
2006 was the year I was born.
Idk what happened but he had one hell of a team 😒
We went from him to gareth southgate a.k.a mr. 8 defenders, 2 mid feilders and 1 attacker 😂😂
That would be funny is Southgate hadn't reached the semi final of the World Cup in his first European competition with England, a feat which no England managed with our Golden Generation.
Put some respect on southgates name. Wasn’t his fault we didn’t reach the final. Sven did nothing good for us. Nothing.

Mr Ok yeah, we get it. But that still doesn’t justify this guy’s decisions. Talent doesn’t guarantee wins, but his and staff’s decisions made it a tougher task for us. Regardless of how good other teams are, we were capable of competing and had a team just as good as the others.

Should not have used 442, because its outdated, you need the right players mentally and physically in the positions. From a midfielder's point of view your job is not only covering the midfield, but to protect or support the defenders and strikers. That's hard work imo. Should used 433. Also our midfield was no good: no natural left footed player (like Stuart Peace), Lampard-Gerard partnership unworkable. Our midfield was weak.
Did he just say Steven Gethard?
How to fit scholes Gerrard and lampard into that team. Perhaps it would have been best to play carrick or Hargreaves as holding in a diamond with Gerrard and lamps behind scholes . Hindsight and all that. . .

People talk about England’s team at the time but let’s be honest, England had good players but not as good as the other giant nations at that time. England’s golden generation was around other golden generations. Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes were good but they weren’t as good as Zidane, Ronaldinho or Figo for example. They were good but none of them were the worlds best like other players from other massive nations, just my opinion
