Hi there, I watched so many videos on the new MB pro's and M3 max chips. Yours is the very best and most positive. I am about to run to apple store and place an order. My old mid 2009 17" MB Pro had similar specs as the base model- as when I bought it , I maxed out everything including the Matte screen which I love the best.
it was a very sufficient and efficient machine. I use Logic pro along with my Apogee Duet and I am using it still as I type this to you.
Question if I may? My Duet interface needs a firewire 800 port.( My laptop came with every imaginable port you could possibly need)
Can I or will I still be able to use my Apogee Duet with a new MBPro M3 max 16" ? God I hope so? They work effortlessly together with zero latency which was huge for me.
Please if you know of a special cable or way to continue my usage of my Apogee Duet -let me know? A 1000 thanks buddy.

Man, I was considering ordering one online but now I’m not sure. I had a bad experience buying my mom a new M2 15 inch Air a week ago from an Apple Store at a mall. They gave me a used one that was scratched, dirty, and that tissue paper was ripped up. It was fun explaining to them that I nor my mom scratched up the laptop before they eventually swapped me another one.
Anyways, my 2019 16 inch Intel machine (I think) is about to bite the big one. It won’t charge anymore when I’m using it. The fans are making a funny sound. I figured this would be a good excuse to upgrade. I wanted to wait until the M4, but I don’t think I’ll have a chance. Also, what settings are you using for WoW and have you played it on retail? My 2019 can’t handle retail anymore on High.

I am probably gonna get within the next month the 14" M3 Max 16 core. Yes I know kind of a weird choice. I like the 14" form factor more than the 16". I travel a lot and I use my iPad 12.9 as a second monitor so no screen size issue. Also, I could be fine with the 14 core model but I want more RAM than the base 36GB without having to drop an extra $1000 for the 96GB version. So the spec I am leaning towards is 14" M3 Max 16 core 64GB RAM in space black. I hope it doesn't get too toasty when I run sustained all core loads on it haha.

The biggest downside is if you’ve ever used the MacBook Air M1 / M2, you’ll find this to be too bulky. It’s not a great travel laptop unless you absolutely need all that power even when you are travelling. The MBA just disappears into the rest of your luggage because it’s so thin and light!
Also, I used to own a 14” M1 Pro base MBP. The edges dug into my left wrist so badly that I couldn’t type for too long on that laptop at all. I moved to the M2 air and have been super happy. For any heavy work, I have a desktop CPU.

I love the 20+ hours battery life of the M3 Max, but I can’t overlook the lack of gaming experience on a Mac, especially when the 4080 in the Zenbook Pro 16 just blows everything out of the water.

Great video! Have you noticed a difference from your M1 Max to your new M3 Max in terms of fan noise? You mentioned the fans do kick on in the M3 Max. Was the M1 Max comparable in its thermals/fan noise? I’m considering the base M3 Max for music production (Logic Pro) and I’m hoping it can be a quiet powerhouse for that purpose (I want to eliminate as much background noise as possible in the home studio… and I’m coming from an Intel MBP that is not quiet). A friend who uses his M1 Max for music production says he’s never heard the fans, which is amazing. But I do like the idea of getting a new laptop with the extra power, if the M3 max can be silent most of the time (or at least quiet). Thanks for the video!

I'm just going to post this bc this lad that made the video severely overpaid for this M3 Max. $3499 for his M3 Max with only 36GB RAM and 1TB SSD...oof.
You can get a 16" M1 Max with 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD on B&H right now for $2799 and the 14" variant for $2499.
I just got a new one on eBay for $2000 flat a couple of days ago. Another one just sold for $2300. Brand new. Both 16" models.
$3499 for the M3 Max base, so you're paying ~$3800, close to $4K after taxes, for that M3 Max with significantly less RAM and storage lol.
Don't over pay for products that just dropped on the market that have marginally increased performance.
The aforementioned spec'd M1 Max MacBook Pro was over $4K when it came out (and it's still a banger), but now you can get it for close to a 50% discount. Again, to reiterate: brand new, not refurbished/used.
If you're a music producer and don't need to be mobile, there are a few (new) Mac Studio M1 Max variants available on eBay with 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD for $1399. Insane deal.
If you are already going to spend $3K+, I'd get the M1 Max bc the differences are negligible on real-world use, you'll never notice...and I'm assuming you're not a 3D artist using Blender or Cinema 4D so you don't even need any of the slight performance increases you'd get with the M3 Max.
What matters most is RAM on these configurations. M1 Max with 64GB RAM is the way to go...plus you get 2TB of storage, for basically $1000 less.
I also bought an M1 Mac Mini 8GB base model when it first came out and it runs Ableton surprisingly well with a good amount of VSTs, effects, and plugins running lol. It's wild.
      Anyway...
      Get the M1 Max @ B&H ;)
      It's a way better deal.

I bought the same model, but in black. I had been using a 14" M1 Pro since it came out and was fine with the performance, but I had come from the Intel 16" and was annoyed by the way the 14" dug into my wrists when I was using it. Not a bad laptop in anyway, just the way I rest my palms on the device made it uncomfortable for me. I find the 16" much more comfortable and while I know this new one is much faster, the only place I have found it noticeable at all is in BG3.

I find it crazy how Apple only provides the full 400 GB/s memory speeds with the most expensive M3 Max version (48GB and up) - the M3 Max base version is nerfed to 300 GB/s. Last years model even had the full 400 GB/s speeds on the M2 Pro...
In some workloads this would be a deal breaker. I’m sure the M3 is capable of handling anything you throw at it, but the fact that last years model might outperform this years model on certain areas is not good. Especially considering the price premium they charge for it.
Apple is getting scummy. Corporate greed at it’s finest.

Definitely! M1 pro is perfected and doesn't fall too behind the m2/m3. The only noticeable difference, at least for me, is the battery life as the m3 lasts a bit longer (by an hour or two), but the m1 pro still lasted me 12+ hours of medium use. LMK if you have any other questions!

I edited video today with an M1 Pro. It is not my main gig so I don't have the same data load and deadlines as a pro video editor, but the M1 Pro smoothly handles the video editing I do. Sure, the M3 would be better and somewhat faster, especially if you are going to pile on tracks and effects. But on a budget the M1 Pro is a solid option at the discount prices they go for now. Just get 16GB or more of unified memory to not starve the GPU, I have 32GB and would recommend that if it fits your budget.

I have been using an OWC Thunderbolt Dock for several years, first with my old Intel MacBook Pro and recently with my M1 Pro. It’s been great. I have two displays, keyboard and graphics tablet, lots of USB devices, and storage connected through it. I do like only needing to plug and unplug one Thunderbolt cable to the laptop for access to everything including power.
If I was buying today, I would also consider the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt dock, but it is even more expensive. So I am seeing if my current dock will hold out until the Thunderbolt 5 docks come out (which is not soon).

To the people who want the brighter screen but are fine with the performance like me. Download vivid it’s the same damn screen Apple just unlocked more brightness and vivid unlocks it. I’ll keep on using my base M1 MacBook pro 14in. I kinda regret not doing a custom order for 32gb of ram. But I’ve never got my memory pressure over 50% anyways so by the time I feel that squeeze I’ll probably upgrade to a M4 or M5 variant. Waiting on OLED for both my iPad Pro 2018 11 in and my MacBook Pro.
