hi stephen we live just outside swindon in the 1960s that road layout had 5 major roads meeting just there and it was controlled by traffic lights and it caused lots of delays at a time when there was not so many cars on the road a worker for the council drew up the plans for the magic roundabout and it has been very successful over 20,000 cars can cross it with out stopping in 1 hour it is very easy and simple to use just give way to the right this year swindon town have the layout imprinted on their shirt keep up the good work

They been several car crashes at the magic roundabout including illegal car meet ups in the past.
It was also the site of many a punch up after the footie in days past 😂
Negotiating that roundabout is probably a lot easier than negotiating the backstreets of Blackpool after chucking out time.

This roundabout looks really dangerous, I suppose when they have enough accidents they will change it again. something always has to happen first. and it costs a lot of unnecessary money. Take care of yourself and enjoy the weekend. See you in your next video. ❤👍❤️❤️

i did it last year in a brand new rental car, traveled down from middlesbrough to swindon to see our new granddaughter, was a lttle worried about it, but was fairly easy, got the car back in one piece 🤣🤣well done steve 👍👍

I kive in swindon. Its easy when youve done it a few times but i failed my motorcycle test in the 90's cos of that roundabout:)
I thought that you handled it well for the first time, but the turn at 1:02 by the county road was a bit dodgy, only because cars entering from County Road wouldn't be expecting a car to do a full turn there. I can't even tell you how many times I went to that chippy in the 1980s. We would go to the footie, hit the pub that you were approaching after you completed the roundabout, then grab something at the chippy on the way home. I left Swindon in '87 but I still remember that fondly.
I'm always careful doing full turns at roundabouts because I know it's not what other drivers anticipate.

It used to be. The test centre was near the Marriott hotel, and Magic roundabout was on 17 of the 20 test routes. On my first driving test in Swindon I didn’t go over it. Now the test centre is in West Swindon, and when I passed in May 2010, most of the test routes focussed on the more rural roads.
I was taught to treat each roundabout as an individual one. Sat Nav gives up usually and just states the destination place for the exit you need. There are 2 types of driver in Swindon as a rule, those who are happy to use it, and those who go out of their way to avoid it. I don’t mind using it, but my husband who learned to drive in the Midlands hates it.

I hit that crazy roundabout in my truck the first time I ever went to Swindon. Had a delivery to the shopping area. Half the truck was on one side and half was still at the part where I started 😁🤣 edit: they also considered doing the same thing to the Portwood roundabout in Stockport where 7 smaller roundabouts were to be placed on the main one 😆
and thank f* they didn't touch Portwood roundabout!!! if that land wasn't consecrated, it would be a thing. and a confusing thing too.
(I live that side of town) even normal drivers get confused and messed up with the way it currently is. I think it's written in one of the local by-laws that there has to be at least one accident there per week. surprised the council haven't given up trying to straighten all the bent railings there 😛I do know it's littered with the shattered remains of accidents past.
surprised that nobody has taken out any of the protesters that gather there either!

Aaaaaaaaagh Swindon. I did 4 months there in 2007. Windmill hill business park everyday 🤯 Not the best place in the world. I remember the island at rush hour. Foot down and go for it. Its changed alot now. Earned some good money at the time but lived in a hotel every day. I went to Canada with the money I saved. Best holiday ever....After Blackpool obviously 😂😂

The Magic Roundabout should remain as it is because it a landmark in Swindon and Swindon is a good place to have this roundabout 😂

Statistically, it’s safer than the single roundabout that was there in the 60’s. I learned to drive in Swindon after we moved in 2006. I don’t mind it as I was taught how to use it. I used to use it regularly when my daughter was at college just down the road on Queens Drive.
Sat Nav tends to give up on it,and just says “take the exit for xxxxx”. It used to be on 17 out of 20 test routes until the test centre was moved to West Swindon. When you live in Swindon, you have to get used to this and the motorway stretch of M4 between J15 and 16. My husband will try to avoid it, but I use it with no problems.
When was this filmed? One of the roads leading off Magic has been closed for 3 weeks after storm damage. It’s only opened up in the last few days.

We had a magic around about in Leigh at the junction on Atherleigh Way/Twist Lane/Fires Lane so called because magic how any got round it as it too big, it been since now it's the camacarzy junction u may make a video on that some time

I go around it occasionally in my delivery van it's not that hard to get around as long as you have common sense.
