- Join me on a mini tour of Foxhall, one of the oldest areas of Blackpool. We will see some of the rougher parts of the town, and how it is being regenerated. In the last part of the video I visit the promenade at sunset, and end with a slideshow of images.

Steven I came to live in Blackpool in 2003 but left to return to my home city of Sheffield 7 yrs ago now but being able to keep in touch with Blackpool via your videos is brilliant well done to you wishing you all the very best please keep up with the good work that you do xx
There seem to be so many people trailing round the streets of Bpl taking videos for CZcams at the moment that it is surprising you don't fall over each other.
Having said that, where this video stands head and shoulders above the rest is the quality of the photography which is superb.
It is also a pleasant change to see that that you gradually pan round, whereas everyone else, it seems, has no idea how to do this with any finesse.
I lived in Blackpool for 8 years until 1997 and sadly so much of the town has fallen into decline, especially away from the Prom......but the photography made this video a pleasure to watch and I look foward to seeing more of them. You have a real talent for this!
Many UK seaside towns have been going down hill for year's, Blackpool is no exception.

I grew up in York street from 1947 to 1959 number 34 to be precise. My sister tells me our old house is now all boarded up .My grandma had a sweet shop on Lytham Road, and lived on Central drive (number 351) Our parents left Blackpool to go further south. We spent a lot of time at the Chapel street Methodist Church on Chapel street. Very happy times there. Thanks to you I could see the building is still standing. My Last visit to Blackpool was 1986. Thank you for your filming it brings it all back to life for me.
Your videos are truly fantastic!!! You should be employed by Blackpool tourist board because you inspire people to visit Blackpool. The good side if it and also the darker side. Your photography is without a doubt amongst the best that we have seen...Please, we want more of your videos. look forward to every one and watch them over and over.
I don't think I would get employed by the tourist board with a video like this, but I do have quite a few other vids that show it in a better light. I'm all about showing all sides.
We go to Blackpool for a week every year , it’s sad that as soon as you get one street in from the prom you see the decline that has set in
Have just found your video. Am just back from Blackpool staying in the same area near Lytham Rd! Am interested as bpool was my home until I moved down south when I was 18. 40 years ago. So sad it's so neglected but do still feel an affinity with the place. Thinking of retiring in Cleveleys.
It is a huge shame I agree. I live here myself, but I wish that the nicer areas of Blackpool that there are plenty of, were more prominent.
Most people just don't see the nicest areas. What a shame.
If you go further inland beyond the run down areas, there are some very nice localities, with good bars, cafes, pubs, restaurants etc. Layton, where I live has a village vibe, and there are many other such attractive neighbourhoods. Get a bus pass and explore beyond the Prom and the tramway, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think you need to go a street in to tell the place is run down, cos I just get that feeling about the whole place, it reminds me a bit of pipryat, the town at the side of Chernobyl which was abandoned in minutes and has been left to decay ever since.

I lived and worked in Blackpool in the late sixties early seventies, it's quite sad to see it as it is now not that it was ever in high regard it did have it's own little slice of wonder.. the old trams that I would take to central station to go home on the weekends, there was still a sense of elegance back then when folk would dress for the occasion of ' being on holiday'. Those were the days.....
I lived in blackpool briefly ten years ago and glad I left. Everywhere you look is a grot spot. I know they tried to tart it up with fancy disco street lighting in the town centre and the prom was done up a bit. But honestly the rest is just a tip.
The money is often spent on fancy art installations, which add little.

I grew up in Ramsey avenue ,left home 1980 the place has not changed, it was going down hill then ,but i still miss the days on the prom in the late 60's early 70's, will be waiting for your next installment ,memories, thank you

The Police have to police it better, if they want Blackpool to benefit financially from the tourists, they have to tackle the louts and clear it of the professional beggars which the tourists find intimidating. But a useful and interesting video, thank you. .

What a good video Stephen... I'm from "Sunny Blackpool", it was great to see my town in from a "reality" point of view..... Glad this isn't an advert to come here as I probably would go somewhere else.... lets hope the council see this post.... well maybe not as they dont have any money to invest

Building work ceased on the Right Rd area due to the building co entering administration. The No13 Bonny street was previously called the pump and truncheon. Was a fave haunt of off duty coppers and magistrates.

Who remembers the deaf/dumb riot at the foxhall. My mate worked in a chippy and watched the whole thing. No shouting, just slaps n thuds. Never a dull moment back in 80's 90's

Pump and Truncheon was the former name of the No. 13 pub in Bonny St. At one time a good real ale venue, and for food, but it started to go down hill years ago, and I haven't been back since. I hope there's a compelling USP behind the rename and fresh coat of paint...
Have been in there a few times about 12-14 years ago. Was always told a lot of security and police used to drink in there.
Think it changed because the police station is no longer across from it.

Lovely film Stephen and just what I love to do myself when I take my little jaunts to Greece. Rather than shoot the already popular areas I make a B-line for the not so well known or heard of places and it works well, although I only take stills the video aspect is a long way off at the moment. Great stuff and looking forward to seeing more.

I really enjoyed this video hope to see a lot more over the coming weeks and months. I love Blackpool, I have been going there on and off since I was knee high to a grasshopper as I have family who live on the Grange Park estate. I have been twice this year before the coronavirus lockdown, I brought my grandson who is 6 year old we stayed in the Norbreck Castle as he has a thing with castles for some reason and he loves it so it`s turning out to be a family tradition visiting the place. Anyway I subscribed as it`s a great channel so thank you again.

The pub next to the old police station was called 'The Truncheon'. I think it was named that due to the police station next to it.

Compared to where we live. Blackpool seems so fantastic. Just like any town good and bad. But seriously if we could sell up and move to blackpool we would.
Blackpool is bad.. U move into Blackpool itself ull understand.. Worst drug problem per size in u. K derelict.. Stabbings.. Dealing all over..

@@leolicursi3536 since living where we do the last 23 year we've had one murder opposite our house. We have loads of drug dealers doing drugs right outside. Neighbours who ounce there high and drunk decide to either smash up other people homes set fire to them or there cars. We have a lot of domestic violence. About two weeks ago our neighbour decided that he'd slit his girlfriends throat for talking back to him and they was outside the house at the time with kids playing in the street. So yes blackpool is paradise compared to were we live.

Tbf most our knife crime is gang violence, and it depends where u are in Blackpool, but in the bad areas it's really bad, I live in like the middle of the police station and the hospital and they always goin

I have visited Blackpool a couple of times over the past few years staying at the Manhattan hotel,I still enjoy spending time there but also feel a bit of sadness as when I went to Blackpool as a child and as a young adult the place always seemed so vibrant and full of life,but now it feels so old and tired and needing to be revived,but I suppose time has moved on and people want different things.but Blackpool will always have a special place in my heart.
I’ve lived here 20 years and over the years we’ve seen the decline in Blackpool it’s sad cause as a child it was so good
@@reececavanagh3436 I had some fantastic holidays in Blackpool seeing show's at the winter gardens such as cannon and ball, little and large, Joe longthorne etc, + always had good night's out on the piers.and always look forward to visiting the tower ballroom.i wish I had the money to make Blackpool the place that it was.i always look forward to visiting and think I always will.

Spent many a August & Easter Bank Holiday Weekend there many years ago with mates From Leeds. From about 16/17 years old. Mid 80’s. We went for years and years sane 2 weekends. Brilliant times. So many memories.......in the end there were literally 100s of us going over. Same 3 pubs and a couple of same clubs.........🤣
Well before mobile phones and the pubs would shut at 3 on a Sunday...didn’t matter we’d have a game of football next to Central Pier about 40/50 a side......

Yeah both Morecambe and Blackpool will be having their big projects built at the same time. Eden project in Morecambe and the Central development in Blackpool respectively.

My home town, however, the place has declined rapidly over the last few years especially in that area. The guest houses have gone and have been replaced with DHSS accommodation. I'm reminded of the phrase you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter...
I’m going to do a video about how Blackpool has changed over the last 50 years. How once popular hotels and guest houses are now HMOs and bedsits, and how this has affected the town.
It is very sad, isn't it? I left in1990 as an 18-year-old and, to be honest, the place always felt like it was running down. The working men's clubs whilst a generation away they had life in them, it appears that even they have started to close down. This is probably why all of the guesthouses have started to disappear...
Showing Blackpool it’s true colours, the foxhall area is just one area full of unemployables even the job centres shut down. It’s a wonder anybody wants to come here for a holiday, it must be really grimm where they come from.
I moved to Lytham and worked in Blackpool loved working with the locals lovely people sadly though it’s get trashed big style by the visiting element seems to be here for the weekend let’s just trash it also it looks feels really tired seems everyone took out but not willing to put back in.
It is such a shame to see so many closed shops.
Hi Stephen. Just re watched this video which I really like. Can you do a review of the green Lindale Cafe. I hVe heard really good reports of their budget roast dinner.
3.47 had my dinner in there today. linsdale cafe. had the large breakfast, think it was 4.99 well worth it. 2 bacon, 2 sausages, beans, tomotoes, egg, mushrooms and 2 fried bead and a drink, 1 free round of bread and butter.

I really enjoyed the walk down Memory lane. I used to go to Blackpool regularly in the late 70's early 80;s to Dance at the Highland room listening to my Favourite Dj/ Producer Ian Levine playing Soul music.. Is the Mecca still standing or did that become a Carpark like Wigan Casino...
Dave DisKo The Mecca came down a fair while ago and the land is being regenerated with new housing. If you watch my Mean Streets vid, you can see the new housing estate that is part of the project. I should do another vid where I point out where the Mecca was.

The Foxhall pub was a bloodbath every day in the 50s & 60s

Perhaps you could give me a little advice, I have been thinking about buying a house in the Blackpool area, is there certain areas that you would recommend to avoid buying a house in, and where would you say is the best area or location to live in the Blackpool area.

@@paulpalmtree9295 the top of the Tower would be my guess, as i'ts as far away from the riff raff as you are ever going to get if you insist on living in Blackpool.
As much as I like watching 'walk around' videos, I always want the camera and voice to explain a little deeper or zoom in on something. Showing the art deco transport building was nice but a comparison pic and seeing the other ground floor entrance would have set you apart from other vloggers. I watch Resort TV1 and complain that they NEVER show where the rest rooms are, disability access, the sounds/textures/scents or go off the beaten track when they are walking around the Disney parks.
Thank you for your very constructive feedback. I will try to take on board what you said about showing more of the buildings & features. I am still pretty new to this vlogging game, so I am trying to see what works at the moment. The idea in my head is for a kind of gritty style, showing the back streets of Blackpool & maybe other towns. More in the way of entertainment than say, information. Please check out further videos and let me know what you think. I am doing some without commentary to see how they do. At the moment, everything is experimental, but I am overwhelmed by the response so far.

Born and bred locally but never really explored this area of Blackpool and didn't know where the tram depot was! I'm going to have a walk past next time I'm in the area and see if I can spot any of the original trams. Looking on Google Street View, it looks like the decorated trams for the Illuminations are stored there too.
Yes they are, and you can have a tour of the depot if you book in advance.

I've stopped in b and bs down the road you showed at foxhall in the seventys they were in decline then but it's a shame that its not renavation instead of rejuvenation to keep the character of Blackpool as it was the boarding houses and there land ladys that gave Blackpool its charitor. Keep up the good work
