Walking the dog, can of lager, living the dream 👌
Sums it up perfectly.
I Love your vids mate, you show the parts of Blackpool, The council don't want the tourist to see
Problem is there are not many parts of Blackpool the council want anyone to see anymore.
@@andymoore9977 the council should sort it out then, they get plenty of cash from tourists
@@lynnescaddan8919 The council can't sort anything out.
Born and bred in Blackpool but moved away in 1961 have been back several times since, it is so sad to see all or at least many shops with roller shutters down quite depressing.
I think you are a very brave man walking down the drive, it all wants demolishing , i remember when it was a pleasant and a happy and thriving area, even the streets leading off the drive look so grim.
It is a sad fact that the area has become very rundown. Nearly all of the properties in surrounding streets are owned by out-of-town landlords, and a fair amount of them will be not fit for living in.
I was brought up on Belmont Ave and my foster dad had the butchers on Ribble Road, moved back to Belmont Drive 10 years ago and I agree the property should be flattened only stopped for 3 months
Spent many a happy hour round the Central area, shades night club, The Castle pub,. We used to stay Easter/Aug Bank Holidays at some Digs on Vance Road (side of Castle).
Brings back some happy memories from mid 80”S till late 90’s. It used to be rammed.
I have walked my 2 Dobermans down there and they were scared..love Blackpool now in the south of France see you soon Blackpool
My Mum and Dad met in a boarding house on Central Drive, boarding house run by my Great Grandmother; Dad stayed one night (off Camp, he was RAF) and the rest is history x
It was probably a thriving & bustling street back then.
Always had a soft spot for Blackpool .Glasgow had a holiday called “September weekend “thousand of people left Glasgow on the Friday from Buchanan st bus station.very sad to see Blackpool like this.
what about the Trades fortnight ???
we used to call it Glasgow Fair.
@@juneseghni aye June its the trades in Edinburgh
june seghni Glasgow fair was the second half of July.September weekend was last weekend in September.😀😀😀👍🏴
I worked in The Ship’s Wheel chippy, nr North Pier, ‘86/‘87. I well remember the countless Scots who travelled down. We also served a few Scottish police officers who also came down to assist the Blackpool police identify troublemakers. Most were well behaved and pleasant to deal with. 😀
Hello Stephen, photographs amazing as always. Thank you so much. Regards from June in Glasgow 🙋
Thanks for this video, Stephen. I know Central Drive well having lived around 1970 in a guest house on Coop Street and am an ex-Palatine pupil. I had a paper round and know the streets pretty well. Yes, it’s a sad sight now but I go back from time to time for a wander and all the memories come back. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Howard. You can at least see some of the large scale redevelopment, like the big black monolith near Coral Island.
Ha! I know that area well too. My weekend and school holiday job used to be photographer in the Golden Mike Centre, now the Sea Life.
My mam and dad had an hotel on Coop Street
i loved blackpool as a child growing up, allways wanted to live their, im from bradford but when the kids grew up we bought a house their, allways are dream, it was 2002, we only lasted their 9 mounths, realey opened my eyes, came back to bradford which is realey saying something, since then i have lost two of my children, but at least when they were growing up they allways called blackpool the magic town, very sad to say it is no longer now, great videos by the way, tony.
@Michael Walton cheers michael, used to love dewsbury market years ago, bet its not the same now eh,
Great video... great music... beautiful pictures of the sunset. As another viewer said.... no place like home! God bless Blackpool and St.Anne’s ❤️. Thank you
Thanks Drew
Blackpool came to an end in the sixties, when people discovered Spain and ended the path of millions on their annual holidays
That was when the rot set in. It did rebrand itself as a stag & hen party destination, but that does not really fit in so well with families.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Can't have it both ways.
You can't be serious people would go to Blackpool for thier annual hols, for two or three weeks.
You would only go for about an hour, while you eat your fish n chips in your car.
Then head home. 🇬🇧🤣
@@steveberry1826 well they did, in their millions.
Some lovely pics at the end - thanks for sharing them and your Central Drive tour. Grim summed it up nicely
How about Topping Street sometime?
Hi Nic. I did do Topping Street last year.
Love the clip of the cats 💘💘
Another enjoyable video , just love the haunting music that goes so well with the run down streets.
I subscribed to your videos because you have a sense of pride in trying times. We need more of this kind of thing. Looking forward to seeing the next video matey. 👍👍
I used to only live up the road, Near the junction of St Annes road and Central Drive, and this was the route, i would take into the town centre. I remember, it would turn very sinister, after sundown, along Central Drive! I left Blackpool to go and live further up North, back in 2016, but i lived in Blackpool for 19 years, so it's nice to catch up with what has been happening there, since i left. I love ya videos. Glad i found your site, as ya always come across as a real sweet gentleman and your videos are very informative and interesting! I just watched your Tyldsley road video! Keep up the good work. xx
Twinkle Aww, thank you :-)

I love your videos and the photographs are amazing. I enjoyed my time spent in Lytham St Annes, Blackpool and Fleetwood. Thanks so much.
Gosh you’re not kidding about central drive it use to be really nice when I use to stay in palatine road I use to walk up central drive to the pleasure Beach back in the 1990’s felt safe back then don’t think I walk it now such a shame as I love Blackpool thanks for your videos 😀
This brings back many a memory of walking back to my hotel after crazy nights at rebellion lol
Two good interesting videos Steve, it's all happening in Blackpool this weekend ,, and you was out extremely early this morning , all the best... Dave 👍
Its great you're making these videos, thanks so much and amazing photographs too!
Thanks for the stroll - I thoroughly enjoyed it so much that I subscribed to your channel. I have always been fascinated by the historical side of Blackpool, particularly Central Pier, BlackpoolTower, the ballroom, The Grand and the skeleton that I think is now in Preston (originally found in Blackpool). I look forward to visiting Blackpool once international air travel reopens again. Stay safe and healthy.
Thanks for the follow. I have much more to come!
What a great video I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and the videos I've watched so far are really interesting indeed.thank you very much indeed for SharePoint your videos on the Great Blackpool....Thanks.😊
I lived a few streets from here opposite Revoe School growing up in the 70s and spent many happy times at the Gymnasium library. I haven't lived in Blackpool for a long time but I revisited a few years ago and was really saddened at how the area has changed.
Also I was proposed to outside the George in 1985...lol...
Amazing June. It's not quite as romantic there now lol.
Great video, I love the way you do other areas of blackpool,. I first went to Blackpool with my mam when I was ten and try to go once a year at least. I remember we stayed in a back street b and b. Back in the 70s it was so different to now. Keep your videos coming I love to watch them with a cuppa. 😃
Susan Crisp Thanks Susan. I am glad you enjoy these vlogs with a difference. The next one will probably be Dickson Road.
Blackpool del la sol in full glory, no place like home 👍👍
loving the vids , some nice editing , spend most of my childhood hols in blackpool , big fan of the Doric...
Oh God! the George Pub, did a fashion show there back in the early 80's x
Gone for good.
Dear gods.
I was last in Blackpool back in 2003, when I had a ladyfriend visiting from Canada, and wanted to visit Blackpool because of the Pleasure Beach. We parked in that car park, went to Coral Island, then walked down to the pleasure beach via the back roads, and then back to the car along the promenade.
What has happened to Blackpool? It looks like it took a nosedive into dilapidation.
This makes me sad, I have lots of fond memories of Blackpool from when I was a kid, and fond memories of a lovely summers day in 2003 with a ladyfriend. Since then I lost my drivers licence owing to deteriorating retinal problem, and have not been able to return. Really shocked at how bad its become :(
It used to be one of the main holiday areas when we had central train station, my grandad had a chippy on the drive back then, in summer always massif quess, now of course the pits so run down, like many former holiday areas here, north shore being as grim.
Thank you. I used to live at 195 Central Drive, a long time ago.
Just loving your videos , many thanks
Another fine video keep up them coming great viewing.
House of jokes aka the houses of Parliament Westminster! I know blackpool has some real nice sunsets as I lived there briefly for a couple of years.. So I can vouch for that. I love your videos you present them brilliantly. A joy to watch. Thanks.
Is there a lot of homelessness in Blackpool. Under government and covid why are they are not off the streets in these times its important if they had virus not to be in direct contact with people thanks 4 sharing
Beautiful photography at the end. Perfect pictures.
Thank you Mary 🙏
Lived n St Anne's till the age of 8. Remember attending a birthday party in the MacDonalds, must have been 83. Also have memories of being followed by a pack of stray dogs. My grandmother managed to scare them off. We were going to see Cannon and Ball.
Thanks for the subscribe Matthew. I hope you like what is to come.
Great photographs and an interesting video
Glad you enjoyed it
Glad to see 'The King Edward' boozer i s still there. We used to call it 'The Spuds'
The joke shop was right next to the car park where Central Station used to be, and Stavonia Fish n Chips was the best in Blackpool.
Our treat before going to The Flying Handbag and Cruz 101. Those were the days.
The King Edward will be included as part of the Heritage Quarter when the new Blackpool Central development is underway.
My old stomping ground in the 80's I lived on Charnley Rd but Reads, Hornby, Vance, Hull and Albert rd was where all my mates lived...Shame too see it in such a state..especially the old joke shop, I went in there loads of times. But the Stevonia is still there! Wd for that one!
I used to knock about in the Ibisson Court area late 80's & early 90's.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Those were the days when Backpool was alive!
just great stuff
keep em coming youngman
Big Cee33 Will do.
had my first visit to blackpool last year and stayed at the village hotel which was nice and had a visit to the zoo which we thought was excellent but blackpool is in desperate need of regeneration the amount of closed down shops and shops actually falling down is horrendous which is sad but we just stayed over the weekend and walked along the front to see the lights which was ok but not like years gone by from what i have been told which is a shame considering blackpool was one of the major places that people visited for a holiday in the past especially from up here in scotland, i really hope the council inject some much needed cash into blackpool and bring it back upto its former glory.
I think its what they call 'Fur coat and no knickers' James.
Good old Blackpool. I have always been meaning to to go there for a visit, but i never seemed to make it there. maybe soon i hope.
blackpool was our yearly holiday as children very dear to me, carried on visiting as a teen and adult when we moved to fair ground and pubs, i remember you could barely get a room in guest house when the famous illuminations were turned on every year
Always interesting videos bit of a grim area though, lovely easy listening relaxing music makes the area look a bit more cheerful.
Videos are excellent mate I love seeing the backstreet as well as the sea front as it's all history keep up the good work we all know Blackpool needs a major revamp and boost but it doesn't stop me visiting
Thanks.
Great vid! Interesting contract isn't it between the Central Drive area & the sea front!? Good to watch! That area is the second most deprived neighborhood in England. (Behind number one in Essex) in fact 8 of the 10 most deprived neighbourhoods are in Blackpool!!
Yes I did hear about that. I have seen the place in Essex & it looks like a trailer park by the sea. In fact, I was supposed to mention it but forgot. I'll probably do another vid & hopefully remember.
great video haven't been down for a while have walked a few of those streets im sure..
Central Drive used to be my favourite place to look for handbags and purses.
Great video
I've just come back today from a night away in blackpool, we stayed in the queen's Hotel, which was lovely however i literally did not feel safe at all pretty much the entire time and its a shame. Had such fond memories of blackpool as a kid but its just deteriorated so badly since then, everywhere looks run down and with all the boards its definitely off putting. I shan't be hurrying back but I really do think of what a shame it must be for the residents of blackpool to live with a council who clearly aren't doing much to reinvigorate the area.
I agree, so sad to see it as it is. I remember the 60s and how magical it was - so many memories
Love the videos thank you, even more so your beautiful photos- do you have a gallery where we could see more and potentially buy some prints? Thanks again, great stuff!

Great video work
Good photos at the end
Really enjoy your take and photographic style of Blackpool, with an unbiased focus on all areas. Would you be able to answer a query that has been niggling me for some time.
I know that the Golden Mile over the years has been developed and restructured. But what became of the Proms underground toilet facilities and what is available now for all who visit the front. Thnks and I hope you continue with your vlogs.
Thanks for your input. All of the promenade's underground toilet facilities have been closed off, like the example seen in the video. I think the main reason for doing this was the amount of lewd behaviour which went on in these toilets. Bethesda Square underground toilets had a bit of a bad reputation for gay men meeting for you-know-what.
Actually they were closed due to need for disabled access and to privatise them due to councils all over the country being starved of cash from central government nothing to do with gay men or lewd behaviour.
Love the vlogs keep it up and stay safe, I've seen juliettes videos, really hope they get some regeneration in those areas of Blackpool, was just thinking that they were throwing some money at the North end of Blackpool, and the central part, probably some of the south end needs regeneration too, would say though that the majority only go to Blackpool North Station and the bars such as ma Kelly's up north, could be wrong, don't get down the south end often
Thanks Graeme.
We live in Wales but went on holliday to Blackpool last August and we got my 8 year olds hair cut at the ' Beach Barber ' and then he went in the joke shop and they sold him a little plastic gun that gives you a little electric shock when you shoot it! Is it shut down now or is it just shut due to covid?🙈 We didn't go any further down past the barbers though 😂 Enjoying the vids keep it up 👍
Thanks for watching. The joke shop is indeed still open, but hours are probably limited.
Taking a trip down central drive is like going into LAGO from the movie High Plains Drifter.
nice video matey as always

it looks a bit run down......not how i remember it .when we went there in the 80s

Definately an interesting street nowadays. My mother played around woolman road, central drive back in the 50s. Then escaped to st annes lol
Probably a good thing. It's not an area I would like to live, although I did a lot of growing up here. I once looked to buy a house on Woolman Road but I'm glad I got one in the Marton area instead of here, even if the area of Marton where I bought my first house was not the best.
I left Blackpool when the new tram depot was being built.. And there was talk of an extension of the trams going up Talbot Road to the station (blackpool North).. 🤔 🤔
They have already layed the tracks.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool I've only ever travelled on the old trams in Blackpool. I see there are newer ones now running. You say the tracks are laid but no mention of running trams on the extension?

Another excellent video...thanks love the pics at the end... just curious are all the shop fronts boarded up because of crime? Subbed from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you sir. They board them up when empty, most likely to stop squatters.
I was there in 2010,had a really nice time, only there for two nights but went to a pub near the football ground and had a big drink with some of the locals, could you tell me the name of the pub, and maybe make a video of that area, thanks mate enjoy your videos
Depends how close to the football ground you mean. I guess the closest is the No1 club just up the road, but there is the Bridge Hotel round the corner on Lytham Road along with the Excelsior as the closest pubs to the ground.
Great video, there was a glimpse of the E-tel Express store on Central Drive - we offer, internet cafe, photocopy, print and design services, call in for a chat anytime (we are next to Tesco Express store )

The problem with Blackpool is the council have no vision. I can remember Disney were interested in locating their site in Blackpool, obviously it went to Paris.

The area doesn't look so terrible. In fact, it seems quite tame compared to similar places like Coney Island in N.Y.C., US. And what's with the winter coats.? Was this video taken in the middle of July, or what.? Cold and dreary. I'd rather be in Benidorm, wouldn't you.?,
It just looks like a war torn town. It’s the modern day and age people that’s made it like that. They have different needs now a decent Blackpool isn’t one of them.
There are a lot of foreigners who have moved into this area, mainly because it is cheap. Most of them are probably good people, but they won't have an affection for the area like if they were local. This is just one reason why it has become so rundown.

@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool
That was very much the impression I had, too. There were clues all around as to the nature and one of the causes of Central Drive's crisis. The area is possibly beyond being 'fixed'. Using the town centre 'improvements' as a guide, the council's response seems to consist of throwing money around for new pavements, elaborate 'arty' streetlights, new shiny street furniture and road resurfacing. That is all very well.....but if you look up from the pavement (as you must from time to time), the surrounding crumbling Victorian buildings continue to crumble because owners can't afford to repair them and any new businesses that might be courageous (or foolish enough) to open are, in all probability, unlikely to survive until the end of the season.
I thought this was grim.....until I watched your Bond Street and Lytham Road videos! And Dickson Rd is yet to come!
Incidentally, the large, imposing brick building at 07:50 near the Henry lV pub used to be a hostel for the train crews arriving at Central Station during 'steam' days, I believe.
Always loved blackpool but some of them back streets have been neglected for years espically by the council .
Central Drive - More Boarding than Travis Perkins - Unfortunately this has to be one of the most deprived areas now in Blackpool
It is pretty desperate.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool I've worked in and around central drive for years through my work and i've seen it gradually deteriorate especially over last 10 years - its a shame but hey ho
@@Scrim13 I think they are waiting for it to literally crumble down so they don't have to compulsory purchase & demolish the whole street.
@pammens missBllackpool as a whole hasnt surely?
What a crying shame, Blackpool from the mid seventies to date has been on a downward spiral, it’s time for strong leaders in the council to start the long haul back, it surely cannot get much worse !!! Reminds me of Rhyl and look what happened there, time for strict enforcement on these dodgy property and business owners standards need to be set a lot higher, if people don’t comply compulsory purchase and or heavy fines, every owner renter to be responsible for around their property business. Come on Blackpool used to be my favourite place !!!
