Just wanted to say, I went to a uni 200 miles away from my family, and when i shut the door and watched them walk away it was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Went back into my room, cried and phoned my best friend back at home saying "i think i've made a bad decision". I just wanted you to know its totally normal and honestly it gets so much easier, you'll meet lovely people and have the best time, so don't worry!

The same thing happened to me today. Even though I'm "only" 90miles away from my family, I felt terrible when I had to watch them leave. I started to regret my decision right away. You just gave me hope. Thank you so much. It means more to me than you think.

@@blorange14 lol late response i apologise but ive just finished my masters degree now and i had the time of my life. moved in with 19 strangers and shared 3 toilets and one kitchen, but i wouldnt change a thing. i found myself not wanting to go back home, i really think i found my place in york and im desperate to go back. when i first got there it was obviously slightly terrifying, my parents left as quick as possible so they could step out of my way and i forced myself to sit with everyone in the kitchen (which is what i would recommend every fresher do bc thats the only way to settle in quick) and by the night time we were all getting along like we’d known each other our whole lives. it was a positive change i needed in my life, my mum got really ill at christmas in first year and having this little family at uni really got me through it. met friends for life who have gotten me through the best and the worst of times, they travelled all the way to come and see me when my mum died (which was slap bang in the middle of dissertation hand in week which was well times lol thanks mum) and continue to be my closest friends. uni was exactly what i needed, although it obviously isnt for everyone, it suited me perfectly and im so glad my mum clicked that apply button for me, and forced me through my a levels, because there were so many times i was going to quit but i got here eventually:) (sorry for the long and slightly trauma dumped response lol)
Aw Molly 😢 I can relate to this video so much! I was exactly the same when I moved to London for uni 3 years ago, I was a total mess when my family left me on my first night. I just found it all so overwhelming and I was so scared because I literally didn’t know anybody and was so nervous to meet my flat mates. I promise it all gets better! It took me a good couple of weeks to kinda stop feeling home sick, it’s just getting used to everything which takes time. Generally starting uni can feel so lonely and weird which is why I totally get your emotions at the end of this video. Everything will be okay though 💗

Your accommodation looks brilliant Molly! I remmeber when i moved in i thought what the heck have i done??!! but it gets a lot better and you will meet so many people that will amaze you. Also remember you're not too far from home and can go home whenever you want to, but it will be amazing there in Leeds! I'm moving into second year there in around 2 weeks and am always around if you need any advice or a chat! have the best week at uni and make the most of every second xxxx

Fill your first week with meeting new people, and doing as much as you possibly can in a new city. Im in my third year of uni and found being busy really helps as it distracts from any homesickness x Remember how you are feeling is completely normal and that in time you will feel better, all you can do is enjoy this new experience x

you'll honestly have the best time at uni and while it seems daunting and maybe a little lonely at the moment you will soon settle in and meet so many amazing people! you've made your room so cosy which is the best thing to do!! i was worried i'd be home sick when i moved to uni so i made my room all cosy and comfy and it helped a lot. you've got such an exciting future ahead! take your time, settle in and meet new people. you'll soon love it more than you thought you would!! good luck sweetie!! Even though I am in year 10 I have felt a very similar feeling missing you family as both of my brothers have been to Uni and I missed them hugely. But you will enjoy yourself so much! Honestly though, it Will get better. I moved out for sixth form and i can tell you that the first few days after you’ve spent a lot of time with your family are always the hardest. Just remember you’re close enough to home that if you absolutely feel like you need to, you can easily go home for an afternoon and you’ll see them every other weekend.
I know it doesn’t sound like a lot of comfort right now, but I promise it will get better💗

I've been at uni in leeds for 2 years and i move back on saturday for 3rd year, when i moved in for my first year i basically had a mental breakdown because i really didn't want to go but I've loved every second! make sure to meet loads of new people and you'll have an amazing year x

I moved to Uni 3 years ago and the first day when your family leave is always the hardest! You go through so many emotions in the first week and it's okay to cry and feel mixed about everything! Throw yourself into everything possible, and you can be anyone you want to be! You'll start to settle in within the next few weeks and won't be able to remember life without it and the new friends you make! Good luck for it all, it'll be a life changing experience! Xxx

Hey girl, I rarely comment on videos but watching the end of this video really made me want to! You reminded me of myself this time last year. I too was starting uni, moving away to a city where I knew no one. I too felt strange and upset watching my parents drive away and had a little cry but honestly I just want you to know it gets so much easier and you’ll have the year of your life! I feel like no one really talks about how difficult and odd the first few weeks can feel but everyone is feeling the same! Seeing you sad really made me go back to when I first moved to uni!! It’s so difficult when you’re so happy living in your family home and are close to your family. However, as you said the first week will be the toughest and as you get to know more people and explore the city I think you’re gonna love it and you won’t want to move home 😋 cos you’ll miss your uni friends. This literally made me emotional because it reminded me of exactly how I felt 3 years ago when my parents left me after moving in. It probably doesn’t seem it now, but it will get easier I promise! It’s okay to miss home- it’s only natural, but keep yourself busy and remember they’re always only a phone call away! Xx

Aww watching this gave me all the feels it’s definitely true that actually moving to uni doesn’t hit you until your moved in and your family has left it’s sounds silly but it’s true! Just want you to know though that literally everyone feels the way your feeling and you might see other people and think how are they coping so well but everyone will be feeling the way you are, it will take some while getting used to/settled but trust me it will happen! Just remember it’s not forever and you are fortunate enough that your not too far away from home and if you ever feel like you need to see your family or go home for the night don’t feel guilty and just do it I’m sure they will be missing you as much as you are! But seriously this feeling won’t last forever I know it’s easy for people to say but I’ve been there and before you know it you’ll be settled in and crying at the thought of uni ending!! It’s weird how life changes so quick but just take it as it comes and it will all work out, you’ve got all of us who are behind you and supporting you and whatever happens we always will! Sending you lots of love and hope everything is going well! ❤️
