Dot and Bubble got a series low of 3.38million - BUT it was the most watched TV programme on that day (Nothing else topped 3mil). It's not a series that's in decline, it's an outdated system to judge a show's popularity. Say what you like about the quality of the show these days, but this era will be the most watched series of Doctor Who ever internationally thanks to the Disney deal. So even with the cult following, I think it'll break out a bit more this time round. But it was never going to break any top 10s, it's an old-ass show with a healthy following and not "the next big thing".
I do wish people will get away from the Disney thing though. It's nothing more than a cheapo acquisition for them, and they'll have limited input in to the show itself. I bet all the cash injection comes from Sony who own Bad Wolf (And do a better job of selling their product around the world).
I haven't watched a single episode of this series yet but I'll watch them all (If it's any good of course!) once the series is over. It's how I watch most weekly series these days, and I imagine that's the same for everyone else. I'd be interested to see viewing figures for a show like Doctor Who 2/3 years down the line. Like a CZcams video, I feel like series these days gather views over time rather than the old way of getting a big hit at once.

The recent episode wasn't terrible, but it wasn't up there with the end-of-series two-parters of the past. The Bluey theory has some legs in my opinion. RTD said that they took DW to Disney to save it from the inevitable collapse of the BBC.

The way we watch tv has changed, I rarely watch live TV anymore. Doctor who's ratings are really bad but the show has been back for nearly 20 years and it's hard to keep people interested with a show that old. RTD has accelerated the downfall of DW with his awful ideas but the writings been on the wall for years with doctor who and I think it'll be cancelled in the next few years.

WRT the Nielsen chart. They breakout streaming to show individual streaming services, but they don't break out cable and broadcast. If they showed all the individual cable channels wouldn't they be smaller than the individual streamers? (complication: some streamers host content from multiple cable channels-e.g. Max carries HBO, HGTV, Discovery, Food Network, Cartoon Network, TCM, etc.). Found a Nielsen report on Apple TV+ from February. They were at 0.29% of total viewership. Netflix that month stood at 7.8%.(compared ot 7.6% in the May report.) Apple TV+ has some of the highest ranked shows by quality, but they don't draw many viewers compared to others.

Nothing has ruined this series of Who more than permanently online whingers rubbing their hands with glee at ratings they believe to be poor (despite ratings being poor for EVERYTHING except sport and all the other arguments i wont repeat here).
But step outside of that and the consensus from the people who watch the thing is that the season has got better and better. Its not perfect - it really needs more episodes and more Doctor - but its the most fun and engaging Who has been for a long time.

@@michaeldallaway1988 Boom is good but this is a rather tired Moffat who came back. Everything in this episode screams older (and stronger) stories he wrote 10 years ago. It felt like a lesser remix. 73 Yards is interesting, only let down by the last third of the episode. It tried to be overly complex but there was no point. Sometimes great simplicity is better than weak complexity (hence why The Devil's Chord is much better). Dot and Bubbles is average, too much superficial for it's ambitions. Rogue is nice

2 things will happen, Disney will not renew for a third year, and the BBC will take back full control from RTD Bad wolf, as both will be very vey unhappy with the ratings, Disney moreso because they are all about the bottom line and they do not prop up stuff with such poor ratings, this is a stable for all streaming services.

Russell T Davis has ruined the Doctors character by humanising him with the bi-generation. When you change what works then this is the result, falling viewers. It needs new writers and a strong lead. Michael Sheen, Paterson Joseph, Eddie Marsan, Julian Richings or Adrian Lester would have all been better choices for the Doctor. RTD and Co. Seem to think the Doctor needs sex appeal but it was never really about that especially in Classic Who. The writing had gone stale with recycled plots so bring in new writers and good science fiction writers. RTD is writing soap fantasy rather than decent science fiction.

I've been watching Doctor Who since it began in 1963 (never missed a single episode in all that time), and I have to say I'm really enjoying this latest series on the whole. I'm certainly enjoying it much more that the vast majority of the Chibnall / Whittaker era. I'm not saying it's the greatest Doctor Who ever made and a couple of episodes weren't very good, but overall it's certainly not deserving of the criticism it's getting from some quarters. Do ratings really matter much these days, when most people will likely binge watch the series well after release? Also it's worth remembering that some of the worst ever Doctor Who ratings in the classic series were for serials that are now considered among the best of DW.

Dr Who as always been rubbish, that's just me though. It's a kids program, it's always been a kids program, the story lines are ridiculous, always have been. It just shows up more when you haven't got a big name actor who gets forgiven for anything. It should be on earlier on a Saturday for all the little people to watch, it's not an adult program, not adult stories, it's always been for kids and kids that are a little bit, well, simple!
Dr Who as never been any good. Finally, maybe! People are beginning to realise that.
