    People say "don't fix it, move the pipe" but the reality is you need to know where the leak is so you don't move the wrong pipe or chop up the floor if the leak is really in the wall near by. As always, a proper diagnosis is key to the right choice for repair.

    To locate cold water side leak, shut off all fixtures inside/outside house. Look at your water meter, if it's still running then you have a leak somewhere. Look for obvious signs such as water damage, listen for hissing pipes with a doctor's scipscope.

    From me experience as a NDT (not a plumber tho) if you wanna detect cold water, you shut off all the water except the one you are looking and then use a heater on the floor it depends type of floor and temprature of the floor. Wait until desired tempreture gained since water observe the heat faster than floor use the same method in the video. I hope this might help some of you.

    How do you check for a cold water leak beneath the flooring of a slab house?

  • @OneLeggedTarantula
    @OneLeggedTarantula Před 9 měsíci

    just saw another video where the professional "leak detector" the insurance company sent out got it wrong and the plumber had to cut two holes. Another one where a plumber got it wrong and cut a huge hole into the nice living room floor only to eventually dig under the wall and find the leak under the floor inside a closet opposite the wall..
    I pays to hire a pro with the right equipment.

    replace the most difficult to access portions of the hot water delivery system - it doesn't belong under slab in the first place unless you have well welded stainless or titanium plumbing pipes. And there's a good chance that if one joint has failed, the rest aren't going to be too far off. Sorry but you have to sacrifice beauty for function, people. Make america great - not ridiculous or frivolous.

      could be many things and one if you have a crawl space under your house, it could be missing insulation in that area. This would let cold air come in contact with the subfloor.

      Hot line actually freeze more in the winter when the water becomes stagnant. Cold can be done in a very similar way. Using a frezz machine on running water will show a cold spot in the floor. if its metal pipe or has a tracer wire locate it finding the cold spot is easier
