  • Thanks so much for watching! We had the best day celebrating my last day of funemployment exploring Rottnest Island and meeting the happiest lil furry friends, quokkas!
As promised, below is a mini-guide for a day trip to Rottnest!
    Rottnest Island information: rottnestisland.com
    Ferry: rottnestexpress.com.au
We went from B-Shed Fremantle to Rottnest Island, $51 (Ferry Fare) + $19.50 (Rottnest admission fee) each. Takes around 30mins.
Our outgoing ferry was the 9.30am, arriving into Rottnest at 10am. Ferry back home was the 5.30pm, arriving at 6.00pm (and travelling through sunset!) on Friday 9th April 2021.
Bike Hire: $30 via Rottnest Express
Parking: Victoria Quay Fremantle ($10 all day when we went) www.victoriaquay.com.au/visit...
    Take with you:
    - Backpack containing…
    - Plenty of water - minimum 2L each!
    - Microfibre Towel (or beach towel but a microfibre is much smaller & lighter!)
    - Suncream
    - Snorkel & flippers (or hire some)
    - Waterproof camera/bag for your phone to take underwater pics!
    - Flipflops
    - Snacks/packed lunch (or head straight to the Settlement area (where all the shops/cafes are) to grab sandwiches before heading on your way)
    - Bumbag for your phone if you’re like me and don’t have pockets for it - you’ll want it easily accessible in case you spot a quokka on your travels!
    - Selfie stick - helps with getting better quokka pics but not essential.
    - Binoculars may be helpful if you’re that way inclined - there’s often seals around the island, as well as dolphins & whales if you’re super lucky
    Wear:
    - Swimwear with loose breathable clothes on top to throw on after a swim - ideally something that covers your shoulders, it’s a long day with minimal shade
    - Trainers
    - Sunhat & sunglasses
    - Depending on the time of year a light jumper may be needed, it’s about 5°c cooler at Rottnest than the mainland, and very breezy
    Route:
Grab a map from the ferry or at the info kiosk on the island - or if you want to plan ahead, take a look here:
    rottnestisland.com/the-island...
We travelled anticlockwise around the island - head towards Coral Bay first then follow it around. We followed the orange/brown cycling route, but missed out the south west section, turning right towards Stark Bay just after Mary Cove. This was just because we felt we’d not have enough time snorkelling/chilling on the beach if we did the full loop. In total we cycled 27km and that was 3 hours cycling time (according to my Apple Watch!), with half hour snorkelling stop offs along the way.
    Cafes/Bars/Restaurants/Shops:
    Full info here: rottnestisland.com/eat-and-drink
    We went to -
Bakery: Rottnest Bakery, located in the mall at the Thomson Bay Settlement, Maley Street.
Geordie Bay General Store: located on Hydroflyte Loop, Geordie Bay.

Close encounters of the furry kind. Glad to see you two out enjoying wonderful world of "Rotto" especially ahead of this weekend's lockdown. At least you have a view from your balcony. No lockdown on this side of Oz. Always nice to see Rottness through newcomer's eyes. Well done and good luck with your new job. Probably be my only ever comment but welcome to Australia.

Heyo, that wind you were experiencing on Rotto and in the afternoon is freo is called the 'Fremantle Doctor'. Its basically a gale of wind that blows into Freo in the arvo of most days and cools the temperature down by about 3-4 degrees (hence why it is called the Freo Doctor, very nice in the hot summer!)

under the Rottnest Island Authority Act, it is illegal to pet or feed Quokkas with fines of at least $150 given on the spot. (To protect the quokkas and people)
