Went to Perth for 8 days a week ago (from Brisbane), found most people are friendly there. I like the slow pace and planning to move there. It’s very quiet during week days, most shops close from 6pm. The most beneficial part is I don’t need to stuck in traffic anymore if I live there, save petrol and time. ❤😂 have visited every city in Australia, so far found Perth is the most beautiful and relaxing city.
How does Perth Compare to Adelaide in your travels, im trying to decide on either coming from NZ. cheers
@@UNAKLD Adelaide is smaller, humid and cold, but quiet and beautiful as well, you can easily see wallabies in the park. It’s in south so the sunny days not as many as in Perth. In Perth there are 6 seasons (2 summers) the second summer is so pleasant, it’s sunny ☀️ and breeze is cool.

@@UNAKLD just a heads up, we are in Adelaide a lot (my son lives there) and have lived in Perth also, most of our family are still there. Hot in Summer, and like Perth, cool to cold in Winter. Not as windy as Perth and probably not as vibrant and buzzy for young people. BUT the trees, oh the trees, the wildlife on your doorstep. Those Adelaide hills are 😍! My son lives just 8km from the city and he has owls, possums, bats. It's beautiful and he loves it. Great restaurants too...and it is hands down friendlier!
Hey Cat. Nice vid. Having spent most of my life in Perth I have to agree with all those points. As you made clear, all of these things can be seen in the positive but for travellers they can seem big hurdles. Look forward to your next vid.
If you guys think Perth is quiet and dead, wait till you visit New Zealand. Almost all of New Zealand except Auckland and wellington is quiet and all restaurants and bars close very early.
Hi Cat, Thanks for your non bias summary of Perth. I always have had a high opinion of Perth being from there I guess it is home. I truely believe you see Perth for what it is and have respectfully commented as you see it. I truely can't find a case against what you say. This video made me miss it even more, it is SO laid back, but that is SO me!! I'm glad you love it aside from these cons. but also the people - it depends who you hang out with or familiarise yourself with. I love how quiet it is too! it's brilliant for introverts like me. Victoria Park is great during winter months with food and drink bars. I totally agree with the culture and vibe its very plain but also is clean and beauty, as well as has stunning sunsets!
Hi Cat, it's great to see you back online, I've genuinely missed you. I agree with your key points, having been in Perth since 2010 as an immigrant from Scotland, Perth does take some getting used to, it's certainly not as 'sleepy' as it was when I arrived and definitely not as sleepy as people in the Eastern states think it is. I've been fortunate enough to visit must major cities in Australia and I'd still rather be in Perth, Hobart might be a close second. I've compared the Australian capital cities to the major cities in Scotland and here is my summary: Sydney is like Glasgow, very busy, a nice enough place but people are always in a hurry and can appear a bit agressive, Melbourne is like Edinburgh a bit more laid back with a cool vibe, Perth is Luke Aberdeen, remote, jobs are in the resources industries and that makes it more affluent than elsewhere, also surrounded by lovely scenery if you get out of the city. Brisbane is like Inverness, nice place, remote like Perth, nice people and an acquired taste, Darwin is Luke Dundee everyone knows where it is but no-one wants to go there, about unfair perhaps because I've not been to Darwin yet. Like Dundee it has a reputation as being unfriendly and a bit dangerous. I've lworked in England a bit as well but can't really draw the same comparison to English cities but I'm sure someone can or has. I think the remote nature of Perth is actually a plus point, also the proximity to the rest of Asia like Singapore, Indonesia, etc. is great.

Direct flights from London too. The public transport is really good in Perth but most people drive because its one of the most spread out cities in the world.
Wait until next summer and we may possibly have a replay of 'Hot in the City Tonight', based on what has been happening recently in New York.
Here are some characteristics of Perth. Shopping centres are busier in the suburbs than the centre city. The best eating areas tend to be a few km from CBD than actually in it. In winter Perth people tend to not go out as much especially at night. In Perth if cold and wet people cancel going to footy. More likely stay in. Perth is based around the outdoors really, with biking, swimming, hiking, picnics, kayaking... In winter AFL football is very popular with crowds of 40,000 to 55,000 going to AFL footy matches every week. Australian football, watching, playing and talking is an important hub for people to get involved in, like soccer/football in UK. Cricket is also extremely popular for all social groups. So much stuff is organised in Perth in summer because you're almost guaranteed it will never rain from October to March. To May (just before winter in June) you can still swim in the ocean and the weather can be warm. But from June to August it does tend to rain a lot. But you're video is incorrect, in that its still warmer than Adelaide Melbourne and often Sydney. The rain in Perth is really over 3 months and I love the showers and squalls that come through. Very good bus and train network. But most people drive. Despite that road congestion is fine apart from the freeway. The culture in Perth is to replace old architecture with new glass and steel. With the exception of particularly historical areas, houses are generally knocked over with huge modern mansions. In the centre of city a lot of historical building were removed in the 1960s and then a lot of new development and removal green space in 2000s. There is a psyche that Perth is like a country town, so the developers push the agenda that Perth needs to modernise and progress is always good etc. So every 30 years there is a big push to knock over old buildings because we need to be more like other international cities. I think its all contrived by developers. That's why in the city there isn't much historical. Perth Stadium is considered one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world mind you. The beauty in Perth is the river and beaches really. From certain vantage spots its stunningly beautiful. Perth is the longest city in the world. Significant number of Brits in the northern suburbs near Joondalup. South Africans north as well from Duncraig and Darch right up past Joondalup. If you have money move closer in is my advice. Where there are some traditional and classy suburbs. If you have money and want the beach culture then go west of the city where there are large swathes of parkland, incredible beaches and quick access to the city. South West of WA is amazing for beaches, forests, wineries etc... North is great but you have to travel a lot further. Perth has parkland, not too much congestion... what isn't there to like. I recommend it.
@@markdavison8602 Parking is too expensive in the city, so you can't really park and shop. People don't want to take a bus, if they can easily drive to a shopping centre. Perth is spread out 40km north and south... so there isn't the density to demand long hours by shops and patronage by locals. Perth just doesn't have the shopping mentality. People prefer to spend time outside.
@@markdavison8602 I'm not convinced there is a demand for shops open all hours. I also feel that its not fair for the workers who have to work at night which conflict with their family time or lifestyle... just so some people can choose to shop at 9 on a weeknight. Doesn't seem right. I think two nights for late night shopping for shopping centres is sufficient really. Major shops can easily accommodate and just put the extra cost onto the consumer. The sole trader then is forced to close and miss out on business and be kicked out of the shopping centre, hire extra staff which will cut profits, or work all day and night 7 days a week.
@@markdavison8602 I should say that Mirrabooka Kmart is open every night Mon to Fri... so there is the odd department store open. Mightn't suit your fashion sense though.
@@markdavison8602 actually i think the kmart/big W at Australind was open 24/7 I heard. Not sure if it still is. I think its ridiculous to open to midnight and just leads to big business dominating and ultimately the costs of being open all hours are put on to the customers. Its not hard to be shopping at reasonable hours. Doesn't take that much effort.
@@markdavison8602 Thornlie to Cockburn is a good first step. In 20 years time they'll do High Wycombe to that line too. There needs to be debate about extending Fremantle line or how to better service suburbs south of the Fremantle and connect them to the Fremantle and Mandurah lines. Workplaces at Fremantle struggle to get staff in the Cockburn proximity because its quicker to get to the city and Osb Park by train, than it is to get to Fremantle. That's damning. I suggest either rail through to Cockburn. Which is tricky when a lot of it is single track and used by industry. Or consider using light rail on rail reserve and some tracks. Then long term look at connecting the Joondalup line and the Ellenbrook or Midland lines at Morley or Bayswater station. Using Reid Hwy reserve. The big thing is how to service the East Wanneroo area that is significant. Tunnelling would be required possibly via Reid Hwy and then going north Balga or Alexander Dr. Or talk of a spur off the Malaga station and going north west. But for me that is very indirect. Trackless trams are being considered at Scarborough (but not sure if its the best route). Consider straight up Alexander drive through Mirrabooka, Marangaroo, Gnangara and beyond. But it would need to largely be an expressway.
Hi Cat, like your videos. Youll find it interesting that Perth Did actually have a whole city full of historic Victorian buildings, but they knocked them down in the 70s for the bland office blocks you see today. Luckily Fremantle avoided this fate and is honestly one of the most beautiful historic towns ive been too, and that's coming from an Englishman!
I love Fremantle! I'm lucky enough to spend a lot of time there, definitely gives me my heritage 'fill'!

Fremantle used to have verandahs on all the two and three storey buildings. It looked like New Orleans. The verandah posts interfered with motor vehicles so they were detached and replaced with awnings. There are still some old photographs of Fremantle with its verandahs.
Thanks for sharing insight about Perth, the only state I have not visited yet. Plan to visit Perth in the near future, From Melbourne.
Perth is good. If you like heat go in Summer. Otherwise Spring or Autumn through to early May. Winter will be fine but you won't get the beaches for swimming and it can be a bit wild and wooly. But not as cold as Melbourne.
You're not a Richmond supporter are you. Go over to Optus Stadium and see the footy then. I can give you some suggestions to visit or stay.
I don't understand the obsession with restaurants, cafes and wine bars. How, exactly do they make a city more interesting?
They don't know any better. It is so sad that some people actually need to drown in crowds to feel alive...

Perth is the most isolated CAPITAL city in the world.
BUT Perth is on Asia's timezone and is closer to any city in Asia than any other capital city in Australia than Darwin. So, Perth is more plugged in to Asia. If you holiday from Perth you can just go to Bali for a weekend. Its dirt cheap. If you perceive Perth as 'islolated" then its probably because youre euro-centred in your thinking and you need to get out more. If youre here then youre not in europe any more, Tonto...
Alcohol is expensive in Australia because of the taxes, which are designed to make alcohol expensive so people dont binge drink as much.
Perth's culture is not that much different from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. It just depends what you want to do. If youre raising a family then Perth is probably number 1 in the world for you. But if youre an 18 year old kid who wants to go out clubbing until 3am and hit the drugs then try sydney or melbourne.
Perth is cheaper than most of the rest of Australia - especially when it comes to power costs, we have no road tolls, and other costs are lower.
You are so right, I think Cat is wanting the high life and is blind to all theat Perth and WA in general has to offer. I've travelled to Europe 3 times, plus Asia and other parts of Oz, Perth is the best 👌

...sometimes it's not about the favourable aesthetics of a region, but what happens there. In my opinion, Perth just doesn't have it. It lacks enthusiasm and much often doesn't get it right. If u want to study anything other than accounting or forklift-driving, u will need to travel to Melbourne or Sydney.

I refer to the more unusual courses such as: shoemaking, leather crafting, guitar making, etc. Perth doesn't offer these, period. Also, cities such as Melbourne are more flexible; universities and certain TAFE campuses will offer enrolment for certain single subjects. Preston TAFE, for instance, will offer music studies of an evening. Perth offers ZERO

Hi Cat. Great Video, thanks for sharing! I went to Perth a few times on business and holiday. As a visitor, I think the city itself it great, it is not cheap, but still cheaper than Mel and Sydney.
What would you say the job market in general is like in Perth at the moment? Is there a high employment rate? Are people finding it hard to get jobs?
Thanks so much! I can’t comment from experience as when I was last job hunting it was a very different time (April 2021, ie peak pandemic still!) but from what I’ve read there’s a big recruitment drive particularly for government sectors (doctors, nurses, teachers, police etc) in Perth at the moment. I also know all industries that typically heavily rely on migrant workforces (hospitality/ service sectors for example) have massively suffered over the last couple of years so are crying out for more people! Beyond these industries/examples I don’t have experience / expertise to comment! X

Spot on with most of your commentary, apart from the weather. Summers are very low humidity and very bearable. The hottest day this summer was 38 C. There's always a pleasant sea breeze during the daytime and a cooler night time breeze from the interior. Winters are glorious. However, if you're living in a cooped-up, low airflow apartment in East Perth, with poor air-conditioning, I can see why you would find the weather a bit harsh. Also, if you live outside the city area cats are everywhere and not closely monitored. This may be against the "rules", but I've never come across anyone who keeps their cat locked up. The most dangerous animals in Australia are humans. They do the most damage to the environment and kill the most things. If you're not afraid of other humans you shouldn't be afraid of spiders, snakes, sharks, crocodiles, jellyfish, bats, kangas, etc. There's a lot of theatrical nonsense about the dangerous aspect of everyday Australian life - it's all bollocks. Australia is one of the safest places to live and it is incredibly free.

Depends who you ask haha! Some people say that Perth people are very cliquey, everyone knows everyone and there’s a sense of an ‘in’ and ‘out’ crowd. However I’ve found people to be welcoming, friendly and social - there’s some great expat communities which we found helpful for meeting likeminded people when we first moved.

I have never seen a coffee shop close at 1 p.m. i.e. the lunch trade, which is when cafes make most of their money. Cafe hours vary in Perth depending on location. Perth is not a tourist mecca, but family oriented which is why cafe owners here have the luxury of taking one day off a week, usually on a Sunday, so they can spend time with their kids and be normal. A lot of ppl come to Perth for business or family reasons, so one can't expect to have in Perth what the British are used to when going on holiday to Spain. Melbourne and Sydney would suit Cat, much better. I've lived here for 30 years and love it.
I visited friends. It’s real nice but yes it is rather isolated and very quiet.
I live in Cannington in the eastern suburbs. It's much busier out here than probably where you're living ..everything is open here on Sundays. Much more traffic and denser population than say outer northern suburbs like joondalup or down Rockingham way .totally different experience if you lived out this way

It depends where you live in Perth . I'm a 15 - 20 min walk to the city and in my area supermarket 24/ 7 same with the servos . The markets are open mainly w/ ends ,but definitely all year round . We get the most days of sunshine of any Aussie capital so picnicking is up to you .

My wife and I recently holidayed in WA and loved it, especially Rottnest Island and Margaret River area. Bloody flies were herendous at times though, especially at the Pinnacles.
Good insight and video, I’m debating moving back to Perth. I lived there when I was younger but now situated elsewhere. It seems like a challenge for a lone younger person.

Perth metro area is the longest, end to end, in the world. That's why the city is empty. Most people have everything they need in their local area. Why travel all that way into the city? It wasn't always like that. When I was a teenager, in the 70's, the city centre was much livelier. There were cinemas, bars, nightclubs and restaurants aplenty. Friday and Saturday nights the city was a busy place. Also much more shopping going on, especially on Saturdays. The suburban mega shopping centres and later online shopping killed the city centre. Covid dealt the final blow.
I've been to L.A. several times and it's a similar situation there. The city is designed around the motor car and most people just don't go into the city centre.
The two legged animals have ruined both cities, not Covid!
I get the impression you’re not into nature, bush walking etc. Perth is really good for that.
You should really break down the shark death stats. A lot of them are a very long way from Perth. We have beach patrols in the city to spot them.

For a nature hit, I spend quite a bit of time round Herdsman Lake. Very underrated and only 5kms from the CBD.
Perth is just an outdoor recreation place. Its just what people do. Playing, watching, encouraging kids in sport and recreation. There is just so much stuff to do all relatively close to people's houses.

Hmm not my impression of Perth. But we’re in our 60s.
CBD has fabulous rooftop bars and restaurants … and during the arts festival lots of events to attend.
Subiaco is very much heritage housing from the 1930s and very attractive.
There’s lots of places to visit within Perth we spent 3 mths on our last trip with never repeating a day.
You can arrive and leave via train/boat ….
There’s a great sporting and music scene in Perth plus comedy clubs too.

about the weather I felt it had 4 season a day sometime when I was there XD~ In the early morning was really cold might be with rain. I have to put on my heavy jackets to go to the school and the temperture going up til noon became really hot. And then the temperture drops til the evening became really cold again.

One of the biggest concerns for me to move to Australia is the dangerous animals with spiders and snakes. We want to have a (veg) garden and I just imagine that it probably won't be such a relaxing time while always having to watch out for them (or worse having them in your home). Is that the truth or am I over exaggerating? I have been to the Perth area around 10 years ago as a school exchange during Perth winter and was lucky that I didn't see anything whilst staying on their farm. (I'm from Europe so we are pretty spoiled with not having to watch out for animals) Would appreciate any comment from someone living in that area especially more the "countryside" .
Yeh, over exaggerated. I’ve lived in country Western Australia and Perth all my life and give very little thought to spiders and snakes. Have only ever seen snakes in the wild about ten times ( I’m 68).
If I leave shoes outside, I do give them a tap on the ground before I put them on, in case a spider has wandered in there. But there’s only one venomous spider here and it’s bite won’t kill you….

Spiders can be anywhere. In Perth the dangerous ones are redbacks. They can be under pot plants rims or fence capping. You just be more careful about putting your fingers. Red backs seek protection. Anyway you can always spray. In the metropolitan area in the suburbs its fine for snakes. If you live opposite bushland or a swamp there is always a risk of a snake coming across, but not that likely. In the established areas there just aren't snakes as houses have been there for generations. I'd be cautious for living in a bush property in the hills, as there would be snakes probably. But growing a vege patch in suburbia isn't a concern. In the bushland if you have a bush property you probably just need to be a bit careful. Especially if you were picking strawberries, or pumpkins etc. Even if you lived on a farm in summer you might often not see snakes. But obviously they're more active then. Give us a bit more of an idea and I can suggest areas etc.

even if something does happen to you, our medical centers are equipted with anti venom, and also if your in the outback, you can call the flying doctors which is a free service. but unless you go deep in the bush, u wont see snakes

Can anyone tell if there are snakes, do they enter houses and apartments, are there any at picnic areas or on beaches? We are in New Zealand and planning to move to Perth but I have a huge fear of snakes and need a realistic picture please. Thanks in advance. ❤
I have been here almost 2 months from nz and haven't seen anything, they are around, there is signs for them - so maybe don't go bush walking! but windows and doors have nettings

I visited Perth and it’s more relaxed which I liked. I hated the London lifestyle didn’t feel safe and everybody was rude, so I now live in Europe but I’ve noticed how expensive it is in Europe where poverty is rising rapidly. It’s a little more safer than London but it’s very expensive compared to the UK
Dont worry Cat - most people agree with you... Personally after spending 10yrs in Perth it became unbearable.... everyone is from either WA or 'over East'...and thats how typically parochial they are because a large chunk of WA is East Of Perth... but they actually say to people 'oh youre from over east' ... its boring and flat... you have to buy rocks for landscaping because its a massive sand plain..... and if you dont rig up reticulation for your garden your plants will all die.... yes there are great places to visit but once you've done that - and its a long drive between towns of a few hundred people - its painfully BORING !!!!! thats why most of the people go to Bali and drive everyone nuts up there in their new Bintang singlets .. its the closest place !!!
Hmmm...interesting. You hate the place yet stayed here for ten years. You do know that there's no lock on the gate, don't you? You can leave any time you like.
The only poisonous spider we have in Perth is the redback, which is a kind of black widow spider. In spite of it being common, nobody has ever died from a redback spider bite.
The poisonous snakes are few and far between. Just stay away from them and leave them alone.

You are spot on with all of these points! You're also very game, can't wait for all the comments. 🤣 A heads up for you...Melbourne has a lot of beautiful old architecture and I think it is the most like a European city, Victoria in general has some lovely quaint towns as does Tasmania. Hobart and Launceston have lots of Victorian terraces and Georgian style homes, especially in Launceston. Funny you mention Guildford, it is by far my fave area I've been to but I don't think people rate it there....I'm surprised it hasn't all been knocked down and had new homes built over it. It's beautiful and that river 😍. Other states have lots of gorgeous historic towns dotted all over. I think some local councils have banned cats being outside in lots of areas.. Perth has a culture to knock down old houses and buildings and replace with new. In the city there is a push from developers and they always push the argument that we're just a country town (1960s mining boom) or dullsville (2000s mining boom). The result can be that's its pushed as an excuse to knock favourite historical buildings over. People get conned and caught up in that needing to make Perth an international city thing... then 10 years later people cry how it was allowed to occur. Damn developers....
I moved to Perth in 85 from the UK 🇬🇧 i hated it to start off with shops closed at Midday no Football on live but I weathered the storm Perth has it's good bit's and bad but what CIty doesn't have 😊
Agree with everything except the weather. The only capital city with milder winters would be Brisbane. Also factor in you can literally drive 60 mins from Sydney and Melbourne and see snow on occasion due to the surrounding areas that are at elevation.
I thought the winter comment was a bit strange too. Yes it rains in winter and there are squalls that come through. But the rain will pass and then it will be sunny. It rarely gets below 16 degrees in winter in Perth. Its far warmer than Melb, Adel Canberra and Hobart. Even Sydney is often cooler in winter. At night its usually around 8 degrees. A really cold night is about 2 degrees. If you look at the footy in Perth, it usually doesn't rain unlike other states. Fans are often in the stands wearing shirts only, without jackets. Thats a funny thing about Perth people just dont' dress for winter because it doesn't really get cold.

Honolulu is in a different category, it has no other capital cities on the same land mass, so doesn't count in this particular race... :)
The weather is good... Gets hot. But that's about it. The weather is better than Melbourne and Sydney. The city of choose is Brisbane... And yes it's isolated that's the one thing I hate. But it's actually beautiful

blood oath it is. She made an interesting comment about homeless and alcohol/drugged out types in the city. Not quite right. In other cities you have a lot more people in the city shopping and going to restaurants.. So you don't notice the homeless types. But they're still there. At night and at times on weekends its virtually empty in the CBD, though it is improving. So rough types stand out. When I was working in the city, I'd always walk at lunch time no matter the weather. On wet days, I'd be a bit shocked by the loiterers, but it was only because everyone else had stayed at their desks. Perth is good compared to other cities.

As far as old buildings and heritage, Perth totally screwed that up 😥 Fremantle on the other hand has kept most of its heritage thankfully..& has its own vibe👍

Fair points, I definitely don’t disagree with the reasoning it’s just not something we’re used to in England - the overwhelming sentiment there is that keeping cats indoors is cruel, so takes some adjusting to a new way of thinking (no matter how logical!!)

Maybe Western Cape compared to Western Australia. I felt that they have quite a number of similarities. Weather, topography, wineries, cheese, sports, the vibe. Except WA is more flat, no high rocky mountains overlooking the city, no Cape Point. But WA doesn't have the same social issues, high crime rate, and xenophobia as in CPT or SA got. I see many Afrikaan-speaking people here in WA, but they're all over AU.

great video. I'm living in NZ and thinking about moving to Australia. Brisbane is my top, been there and I just love it. Perth sounds nice because quiet city but when look on google maps then is very dry there, no green.
Make sure you visit these cities first.. NZ has very mild temps Perth will kill you in the summer its desert heat.

Brisbane = bugs, humidity and rain. Perth is the sunniest capitol city in the world, always a magnet for Brits think they want sun 24 hours a day with out realising it gets HOT, but not as bad as Adelaide !

In winter it rains heavily, but less often as other cities. Also not cold either. Rarely gets below 16 max. Usually 18 to 20.
Please put up more videos like these. We need to keep out more people migrating to Perth because it will otherwise end up like all the other unliveable cities around the world. Perth and Western Australia is a beautiful place to live with a high standard of living.

Just to note: Perth is not the most isolated city or capital city in the world. Honolulu for example is more isolated. It's 2100kms to Adelaide from Perth, while it is 3800kms to SF from Honolulu. Then there is Yaktusk in the Siberian region of Russia. No road links to the rest of the world. I think that would qualify it as more isolated than Perth.

Mandurah has a very high crime rate.
Once the holiday spot for Perth City folk, now a run down crime/drug infested mini Perth. ie cheaper.
They demolished all the magnificent old buildings in Perth. I agree it's sterile. There is not much to go into the city

I agree, I am 60 and still remember some beautiful old architecture buildings on St Georges Tce & beautiful old theatres like The Capital & Metro Theatres on William St, The Ambassadors & Royal on Hay St.
I've put a number of comments on this. 1960s mining boom. All about Perth being just a country town. Suddenly old buildings were ripped up and barrcks had a freeway running through it and so on. then people are upset 10 years later. We have all this glass and steel. Ironically the govt then pushed to keep these 1960s montrosities because of the architecture. But at least they learned a bit. Then during the next mining boom we heard the arguments pumped out again, no doubt pushed by developers. Dullsville, Waitawhile, creating a modern international city that tourists want to visit... Outcome the big parkland in the centre of city was replaced with an inlet and a series of 30 floor buildings, all on what was a park for people to relax and play sport on. I don't think people come to Perth to see glass and steel towers. Thankfully the planners largely stood firm and didn't remove historical buildings.

WA (wait awhile). People fuck you around here all the time. Conservative and unfriendly. Hard to make friends. Lots of road rage. Flies are absolutely disgusting in spring and they try to burrow into ears or nose. My local has a GBH (grievous bodily harm) charge once a year. City populated with sports bars and chain stores where every suburb has an identical set of shops. Beaches congested. Surrounded by scrubland or miles of fuckin gum trees. Isolated. Hard to nurse a garden through summer months. Most dangerous animals are the bogan drivers. Derelicts on public transport. Revolting crows. It’s a desert. Other than that the wages are decent comparatively and it’s an awesome place. Good parks. Things are spread out and you have to travel outside your bubble to find places. Overpriced parking in CBD. I am not from here but I am stuck here. ‘SEND HELP PLEASE!!
You are at least nice about your reasons not to live in Perth . I watched a video about an African man that lived in Perth and he bagged Australia and even rubbished the natural beauty of Australia . He found it hard with finding work after studying here . He thinks that Canada is perfect and is moving there now . He has no appreciation of Australia . The trouble with people who move to Australia is that they expect everything on a golden platter . Well no country is perfect and why did you leave your country birth country in the first place ? Before moving to a new country , do your homework first then come for a holiday and see if people can afford to put food on the table . You never just move to a country just like that then complain about it . I hope this African man moves to Canada and it works out for him and is able to look back and appreciate the life he had in Australia .

Pretty spot on, We are from New Zealand and just brought a home in Mandurah. Love it here but having a hard time with how slow everything is. Everyone keeps telling me thats why WA is called wait awhile.
No one is in a hurry to do any thing, buying house furniture and get told 6-8 weeks wait which seems crazy to me haha.
I thought getting work would be easy also but boy was i wrong, crazy how many people can turn down skilled people that are eager to work.
Its very much a who you know not what you know country which is hard when you know no one.
I'm a bit suspicious about the whole wait a while thing. I reckon its a thing contrived and pushed often by developers that want to knock over buildings and build over parklands. In the 1960s (before my time) they knocked over a lot of Perth historic buildings during the mining boom, with the comment that we were just a big country town. Replaced with plain glass and steel. Then during the next big boom in the 2000s there was another push. People pushed for Elizabeth Quay and basically building highrise on a city park on the river. Which occurred. We started hearing Perth being dullsville, wait awhile... suddenly pushing for massive towers at Scarborough and so on. I'm suspicious. Fortunately, mostly the planners pushed back a bit from big money developers. (ironic that the planner pushed to also keep those shocking buildings that went up in the 60s, but I suppose they're classics now).
Mandurah has the highest unemployment in Perth, especially youth unemployment. But a beautiful location and incredibly fast growing.

The reason why there are few wine bars or nightclubs out in the suburbs is probably because few people want them, and those who do just can't be bothered because they can easily hop on a train and go down to Northbridge or Leederville. There are some nice pubs around, although you do need to make the effort to find them, and I guess people just can't be bothered if they don't suit them. Also, have you ever looked into the costs and red tape that is involved in operating any business in Australia, which are the main reasons why no one wants to do it? Until we change the crazy political system and inefficient public service very little will change.
I have been in Perth for 40 years (originally from the UK). The only way that anyone is going to know what it is like here in Perth is to either visit for a holiday. or take the plunge and migrate here. I taught international students at a local college before retiring, and out of possibly hundreds of overseas students, only one wanted to go back home, and he was from Switzerland. Yes Perth has ugly modern architecture especially Yagan Square . It's a shame as old photos of St Georges Tce show beautiful Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco architecture from the Gold rush era, all sadly demolished in the 1960s to build ugly towers. To be fair tho, London has more than its fair share of ugly Brutalist buildings, yuk national theatre & Barbican centre & those god awful modern sky scrapers like the walky talky and the tacky razor building. This is destroying the beauty of Central London.
I've made a few comments on this in the site. It annoys me that in the 1960s the old country town argument was used to rip down buildings. Then in the 2000s it was about dullsville and building a city to attract tourists. We destroyed the Esplanade parkland replaced with an inlet and highrise. But fortunately most other buildings remained this time. Even the ugly ones built in the 60s.. Ironic.
