I bought the 500x just to play with and then was overwhelmed by the sheer complexity. This video was the most helpful I have seen save song specific settings. excellent job and thank you.
Ive had my HD500X for over a year now and Ive been using it in multiple was but I'm always looking for better tones, like we all do, but yours have been the best by far! Thanks so much.
Mr. Hanmer, thank you very much for such a brilliant explanation of guitar sound control on POD HD! Maybe it's all simle for professionals, but for me it was extremely useful. Great thanks and best wishes!
Thank you so much for the info. This helps me a lot. I hope you can have a video about proper setup of the expression pedals; using it as a Wah and as a Volume control. Thanks again.
MY SUGGESTION TO EVERYONE... Peter's patches are unbelievable . I suggest you set your HD500X in the way you're going to use it while you are watching the video. for example, i set my hd500x into the POWERAMP section of my Fender DeLuxe loaded with a Celestian Cream speaker.... CREATE your patch while watching the video here with Peter .. you will notice the sound of your setup as you build the patch with him. I noticed when I added PARAMETRIC EQ my settings were slightly different then Peter's for the sound I WANTED.... it works great..... try it. HIGH 5 TO PETER for sharing his expertise and knowledge.... cheers
This was most awesome as I have an HD500x used with a dt50 and a L3t using the L6 for connectivity. The tones I achieve are good but harsh sometimes. The parametric technique you use is most awesome, but now I see I have a whole bunch of work to do as I have patches for 3 different bands I am in, but in the end it'll be worth it.
Absolutely brilliant! This opens up a whole new world and gives us average musicians the key we need to open the door to meaningful and usable tones. Thanks!
Great playing and excellent tutorial on the hd500. Thanks Glenn Peter! May I suggest to all the players out there that clean playing (present company included) no matter your style or interface is the best way to produce a tight and in your face guitar sound. The more polished the guitar part the louder you can turn it up in the mix (within reason) without hindering other instrument tone. EQing is blast with quality playing and tone.
There is gold here Peter. I purchased this unit so I could run direct without an amp live. I was worried about whether I would be able to get a tone similar to my current tone, but your demo and advice has convinced me that it will be great.
Just seen your Video demonstration on the Line 6 Hd 500x pro version - Excellently explained and easy to understand demonstration due to your great expertise & knowledge of its use! Looking forwards to your videos with the latest firmware updates! A great helpful tutorial.Easily the best on youtube! Thank you VERY MUCH!! Mick Hill.
Really good video! I have been using the hd500x for years, never thought of this particular application of the parametric eq and always cringed at the irritating high frequencies of the amp sim! thanks a lot!
Fantastic tutorial!! I've been dorking around with my HD500X for a long time. This helped clear up a couple of nagging problems for me. Much appreciated!!!
Very helpful - I'm a lead player in a worship band and really needed those tips. I have an old POD XLT big metal beast that wasn't too shabby for it's era, but that was over 18-yrs. ago.
Superb tutorial! My work with my HD500 is still a work in progress, but this is definitely a super helpful tutorial in getting a usable tone for live performances.
I was beginning to get frustrated with HD500X, all I was getting were muddy, boomy, unusable tones. Plexi mud was making me crazy. Then you picked Plexi. It sounded muddy the same as for me and you made it sound like a beast... Thanks! I will use your tones and methods as a starting point.
I must have watched this video 20 times over the last couple of years. Very inspiring. It's actually one of the reasons I finally bought a HD500X last year. Sadly I haven't come around to using it yet, since I - oddly enough - started to get some decent tones out of my old Boss GT-10 pretty much at the same time I bought the POD. I don't doubt that the POD will improve things though. Thank you for taking the time to make these informative videos!
Holy geez. I'm always complimented on my tones when playing live. It's always a... "Dude, what kind of amp is hidden back behind those backdrops? Tone is killer!" (None of course) But DANG...... this dude just made it look so easy and man.... Those tones were great. Nice job and nice explanation. Looks like I'm gonna work on some new patches! Thanks brother
Great video! Proper use of EQ is the key to getting rid of the dreaded 'fizzies' in any modeling device, not just the POD series. I have found that the use of a de-esser plug-in or a tube 'saturation/softener' type plug-in also works in this kind of application as well. Especially if you are looking for a more subtle comb filtering type of effect.
Thanks, MeTuLHeD, I have to say that "fizz" doesn't really bother me that much. I should imagine that using a "de esser" would work very well though. . If you stick your ear in front of a real speaker cab when an amp is set for a fairly high gain you'll hear a fair amount of "fizz" too. I like to call it "sizzle"
Ummm...really? By fizz I mean the frequencies you are notching out. The ugliness around 3K. The harsh frequencies you are using the EQ to remove. I'm not sure what some people mean by 'fizzy', but that's what I'm referring to. And it's what most of the players I know who dislike modelers say they hate is that digital harshness.
MeTuLHeD I think everyone's idea of "fizz" is different. I see it as that high frequency component about the 5kHz area. Sometimes you can remove it completely without changing the tone but more often than not you can also lose a lot of the "sizzle" from a high gain amp.
I have found that over the years whether I was using an amp with pedals, a GSP-21 guitar processor, a line 6 XT Live or the HD 500(x) I usually try to get the same sort of sound that I'm used to. Although the HD 500(x) has got so much fun stuff to fool around with.
Super tutorial! It helps to have a really nice Gibson as your input, too 😉. I think a lot of the salt against the POD comes from the fact that virtually all of these cabs and amps need tweaking, and in some cases, a LOT of it. You have shown that with a little patience and tips, the POD is capable of some terrific tones. Geeze, I may actually forego the Helix and see about polishing some of my POD patches instead...
I have an X3 and this helped me a LOT. Trying to make densely layered but heavy music similar to oldish Cloudkicker is a hell of a challenge, production wise. Very difficult to maintain clarity.
Hi Peter .. loved you video, I have question, how to put boost for lead. I can't really find a good booster on POD HD500x. and from dynamic they just give me a color. it will really nice if you make another video of that. Thanks.
great demo...i have plan to buy this effect, but i have not knowledge about sound output, can you tell me like in your here demo what is speaker output is better if need too ? i've only marshall valvestate 275 can i use for line 500 hd ? thanks for your suggestion.
This is a great series of videos...could you explain how you "sweep" the EQ to get rid of unwanted tones and frequencies a little more in depth? Thanks
+Boomer Hi Boomer, I'm not sure I'm understanding what you're asking. I suggest that you send me an email and we can talk about it. I'll try and help where I can.Cheers.
This is so very helpful! Would you be able to post how you have the HD500x's internal mixer and also how you have your inputs set? I see some guys that have Input 1 set to guitar and Input 2 set to same, while others will have Input 2 set to Variax or other or even mute the right channel path in the mixer. Thanks! Wes
This is the Best tutorial of the POD HD500X
Thanks Jose. Cheers.
I agree with Jose ! Very useful and clearly explained. Good job !
GREAT VIDEO. The HD500x is invaluable tool for any guitarist.
I bought the 500x just to play with and then was overwhelmed by the sheer complexity. This video was the most helpful I have seen save song specific settings. excellent job and thank you.
I don't own a Pod HD, but that parametric eq tip was brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Pedro. Glad you enjoyed it.

really good tutorial. Everyone can see that hoy know what you 're talking about, very clear. I Want to get the hd500x
Brilliant video! One of the best pod-videos I have seen. With few tweaks you can get a great tone from pod500/500x.
Anders Persson Thanks, Anders. I agree. It's a great modeller.
Best line 6 podhd500x tutorial ever , that improved my patches live and in the studio and makes my unit more versatile, thank you !
Excellent video....!
I have learn more from your videos than any other source on the HD500x...!

Glad to hear that, Charles. It was my pleasure.

Glad to hear it helped, Bryan.
This is exactly what i needed appreciate your efforts immensely! !
+ASHISH George Mathew I'm glad it helped, George.
This video helped me fall in love with my HD500x again :)
mir auch
I was very frustrated with my HD500X, because I'm not an expert and no one ever suggested the Parametric eq....this has inspired me.
Who would've thought that an amp modeler could produce such monstrous guitar sounds? Good show, dear boy!
I've seen thousands of videos of hd500 and this one of the bests, really great job, thanks a lot !
Wow, its brilliant how you achieved that sound. What a difference it makes.
Now what are you going to do on part 3?
How long will it take to see part 3?
I'm hooked... lol!
Thanks again
Charles
Yes part 3 please
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try it out at home. I also hope this will help with the awful distortions when using pedals with the Fender amps.
Thank you! There's lots of complaints about these frequencies and bottom end on the line6 forums. Seems easy to fix. Great work.
+rokspodcast Yes, it's just a matter of finding the frequencies that kinda jump out at you and "smoothing" the freequency curve.
+MarshallMusicDirect helped me a great deal, thanks.
Got this today. And I must say your settings are spot on. Amazing sooo glad I found your channel!
Absolutely brilliant! This opens up a whole new world and gives us average musicians the key we need to open the door to meaningful and usable tones. Thanks!
Im very glad there is a people like this guy who shares their experiences which helps a lot. Thanks a bunch and a much and a lot :)

No reason why it shouldn't be great, Paul. The HD500X is still a very good modeler.
Best tutorial of podhd500x on youtube! Thanks a lot!!
the best tutorial ever
Thank you so much for this series.I understand much more about how to create my own tones and what makes for bad tones.
What a great job. Best demo out there!
You rock Peter. Great playing. Great tutorial video. Keep em coming

Love to see a video on how to use IR impulse response files with the POD.
Epic video, your tips are excellent, been struggling with getting a good sound in a band situation!

Simple and clear, very helpful to me. Thank you very much !! Could I ask you which setting r u using for Input 2 ( Guitar, Same, Variax.. ) ?
Thanks for the comment. I'm sorry but it was a while ago and I don't remember. I'm sure that it was a default setting though. I hope this helps.
Peter, this is an excellent video. What software are you using to monitor the frequency response?
I used Adobe Audition.
This is so very helpful! Would you be able to post how you have the HD500x's internal mixer and also how you have your inputs set? Wes
I set my inputs the same.
Hi, the parametric eq global for pod? Help and thanks
Thanks for your help! Do you think an epiphone will give a very different sound? Thank you
It shouldn't be radically different. It all depends on what pick ups you have in it.
