- The former artistic gymnastics world star Svetlana Boginskaya was special guest of the "Tournament of Masters" 2015, in this city, where she made her first international competition herself, in Cottbus, Germany:
In 1987 she was member of the youth team of the Soviet Union, participating at the so-called "Competitions of Friendship", a special form of events for the juniors of the former socialist countries.
Here in Cottbus she made also her very first international TV interview.
The former TV reporter GDR television was Eckhard Herholz: He recalls: "She was a very, very shy girl. Your longest answers were 'Da' (Yes) and 'Nyet' (No!)."

Her English is so good! I remember in the 90s the commentators saying she was learning English and now she sounds like she's been speaking it her whole life!
She’s been living in the US for quite some time, so I’m sure the immersion has helped a ton, but I’m still surprised at how great her accent is!

due to her Kazak heritage on her Dad's side... she is so uniquely pretty with Asian facial features along with Slavic physic. Such a mixture of beauty indeed.
Wow, I only knew her (and loved her) as a gymnast; I had no idea she was such an eloquent speaker. She sounds very intelligent and professional.
She was, still is, and will always be, the quintessential Goddess of Gymnastics.

I’ve seen Olga’s parallel moves with awe, and all of the other great female gymnasts that are equally inspiring to young girls. Ms Boginskya moved so gracefully and artistically being taller than most gymnasts, that, in my opinion, was the most eloquent and beautiful gymnast! I am pleased to watch her performance on CZcams.

deenibeeniable Yeah it is. Her accent is really strong but she still uses correct terminology and she speaks so eloquently. You can tell she's intelligent.
@@Rakim8 I would say her accent is quite good! There’s obviously an accent there, but considering how late in life (in terms of language development) that she began learning, I think she sounds great.
@@ItsSeanzie I didn’t say she doesn’t sound great, I was complimenting her - profoundly. Her accent is still strong regardless, irrespective of when or how or why, it’s there and it’s evident and that’s fine. She’s amazing, a legend 🤷🏻♂️

When the interviewer asked Svetlana that what do you wish to do outside of gymnastics, I anticipated that she would say that she wants visit India (very mischievously) and I was shocked when she actually said that, I couldn't believe that she said that. Svetlana you are always welcome if you want to visit India.
My favorite gymnast ever! Not sure why she was labeled a bitch but she is nice. I emailed her years ago and she actually responded. Made my day! I love you Belarusian Swan!

Classic Memories I'm not surprised. She has such a warm spirit. I don't know how in the world she got labeled in such a negative manner.
Well, when she competed she always looked very serious (you could see why)..but in person she actually has a great sense of humor:) She also has a great relationship with many of her former competitors. The American team of the 96 Olympics made many appearances during her summer camps:)
Classic Memories I suspect most of the hate she got came from jealous insecure women. I mean, Svetlana was and is drop dead gorgeous. When I first saw her, she stopped me dead in my tracks! This coming from a heterosexual woman from a completely different culture! Also she had confidence and confident women make insecure women steam with envy. When she responded to my email over some 20 years ago, I knew she had a heart of gold and humility and I never forgot that. It's so nice to hear that someone else knows this and has experienced this with her. She is truly amazing!
Well said Lizzie. You and Svetlana must have been very early in the internet age if you exchanged emails 20 years ago though! Most young people started using email around 1997.
She was the reason I started watching gymnastics back in 1988. No one can compare to her grace. I also love her even more for rocking both Adidas and Chanel in the same outfit :)

Me too, me too! Well, her and Daniella Silivas. Then Silivas retired and I stayed a fan to Boginskaya well into the 90s.
Who doesn't love Svetlana Boginskaya? No one!!! She is the undisputed queen!
Svetlana, fellow Belarussian Vitaly Scherbo, Henrietta Onodi (Hungary,) Tatiana Gutsu (Ukraine,) and Tatiana Lysenko (also Ukrainian) ALL have become naturalized citizens of the U.S.A. (along with Ukrainian figure skater Oksana Baiul) - and I bet ALL of them show more patriotism or take pride living the American Dream than ANY of the WOKE athletes that take a knee to the playing of our Nat'l Anthem or turn their back to Old Glory.
I'm four years too late, but this was such a wonderful interview. Fell in love with Svetlana Boginskaya again. She's absolutely wonderful in every way, and incredibly warm, eloquent, and intelligent as well.
Boginskaya, Nadia Comenici, Nellie Kim are some of my all time favorite gymnasts. I love Boginskaya's unique talent of combining classical ballet/dance in general and gymnastics. Absolutely beautiful.
I was just a teenager when I saw her for the first time. She is the reason why I still love to watch gymnastics!
Since I was a teen she's my fav and my crush.....Even when I didn't know anything about her...I never forget her....So strong..so beautiful and amazing gymnastic in all the times.

Svetlana, with her grace and beauty, brought the Woman back into Women's Gymnastics! Since 1972 the sport was dominated by the teenage 'Firecrackers'! Svetlana came along and showed us what elegance was!

Wow, She continues to amaze me. She is well articulate and super smart. My ascination for Russian began in 1988 Olympics with her and Shushunova. I'm happy to see her doing well. I wish one day I can meet her in person and get a picture with her.
I got spoiled after watching Boguinskaya, I have always compared gymnasts since, to her and none can seem to come close.

She came to Seoul Korea in 1988 for Summer Olympics as a Soviet athlete and I was 12th grade of a Korean High School in Seoul then and I was so stuck with her and her teammate the late Yelena Shushunova. Not only the unbelievable performance but their beautiful appearances. However, I was little more attracted by Svetlana's since her gene consists of both Asian (her dad) + Western (her mom). Asian alike Western look with the bright killing eye color of her ... ooh Svetlana, kill me softly with the staring of your eyes 💟😉 She had me lose in her eyes 😍😵💟
I wonder if Ms. Boginskaya is suffering from any joint problems related to her years as a gymnast--the landings she did on the vaults/dismounts alone must have done a real number on her knees/hips/back
