Richard Dawkins Begs Christianity to Come Back | Ep 979

  • Today, we discuss the recent controversy over Korbin Albert, a player on the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team who apologized after facing backlash for sharing a video testimony of a Christian who repented of a transgender and homosexual lifestyle. We explain why apologizing is not an example of how Christians should handle backlash from sharing the gospel. Plus, Richard Dawkins recently said he doesn't want to lose "cultural Christianity" and prefers Christianity over Islam. Yet, he claims that he doesn't believe anything that has to do with actual Christianity. And were dinosaurs homosexual? A British museum thinks so ... but we have questions.

I just became a Christian a few months ago and one of the things that really helped me to come back to God was noticing just how much the world has been changing lately. I stumbled on Allie's channel when she interviewed Candace Cameron Bure about how Hollywood and everyone was trying to silence her for promoting a program that focuses on traditional marriage, which holds to her values. I just started noticing more and more how people I was around would try to silence anyone who disagreed with them. I think God showed me that it wasn't right. I should also mention I used to consider myself bisexual even though it was mostly just attraction that I rarely acted on because I felt so conflicted for years.
So stay strong, friends. Your messages of Truth are reaching people even when they try to silence you. It reached me.

Something really sad about what Korbin did is that by sharing the post she was showing support for a young man, a teenager, that has been through a lot, has struggled and has quite likely lost all his friends and all his circle of support when he detransitioned and is not longer gay.
By apologizing so profusely for having given support for him, she was in effect withdrawing support from a young person who is in a very vulnerable position of probably having already lost a lot, and will be disparaged and publicly dragged through the mud by his previous 'community.'
This was not the time for a public figure to announce her withdrawal of support for him.
And to even go so far as to describe his post in which he shared his own experience and testimony as 'offensive, insensitive and hurtful.' I can't even find words for that. She not only very publicly withdrew support - made it known to all the world including this young man that she openly un-supports him. But really added insult to injury.
Keep the young man in prayer. He has Jesus, and Jesus is the greatest support of all. But i's still hard to go through what a lot of our young people are going through as they find their way back from the lgbtqia+ life.

The difference between a "believing" Christian and a "cultural" Christian is that one is a true Christian and the other is not.

    • @kaitlynkarol4600
      @kaitlynkarol4600 Před 3 měsíci +3

You are so right but also, it's still true at the same time - that we encourage atheists and the like to keep believing in and fighting for cultural Christianity b/c this is a good place to start for many for where the seeds are sewn: to be more ethical, responsible, moral and fair/ decent in our humanity. W/out these basic standards of living, we have not much hope to swim into the upstream, to move up to the higher levels of truth.
Also, the bible informs us that God uses everyone - all of his creations may not be his children too, but they were blessed w/ certain talents and certain insights that ONLY that person has and so sometimes, a non-Christian can also lead or help the Christian. We see this in ALL areas of life so we need to bear this balancing act of wisdom in mind b/c for one thing, it keeps us humble.
So yes, cultural Christianity is not good for the soul to get to heaven on for the individual but it is essential to keep and encourage to be the anchor to ground us in as far as our society. W/out this anchor, we have no sense of direction at all. Ppl too often make this a thing where they want to split hairs and say choose one over the other - but this kind of choice would be a false dichotomy b/c we need BOTH.
However, like I said, it also depends on the reason for the Q - which contextual way do you mean to ask the Q...? which audience are we speaking to? The saved or the unsaved? These are all very imperative/ important categories of data and elements of critical thinking. If we over-generalize these beliefs, we get into trouble b/c we lose our focus which can cause us to lose our way.

@@Theo_SkeptomaiI would personally say no, that it is not an offense. It is a sadness. We have the joy of looking forward to life after this in the presence of the one who loves us. The way I look at it, this earth is the presence of God and Satan. The next world will be split. You either get God OR Satan. I know which one I would(and do) want. Those of us who believe in God see this as the most critical determination of our lives. In order for me personally to determine what I believed, I’ve spent probably 800 hours researching(probably way more than that) what seems to be the truth.
Lee Strobel, an atheist and journalist set about to disprove God using his professional skills. He couldn’t do it. The more he studied, the more he saw the plausibility. He became a believer. There are many stories like his. Sean McDowell is someone who I find very interesting to watch. There’s also a book- probably the most important one in my mind on the subject of near death experiences that sought out, recorded and cataloged or categorized near death experiences and “charted” them pertentages. Its called Imagine Heaven by John Burke. With all sincerity and humility would ask you to look into even just those resources and see if you have the same opinion afterward. I know these things convinced me about the reality of God.

@@Theo_Skeptomai - Why can't it be both? Why do have to live in such a state of this constant nagging false dichotomy? There are diff forms of wisdom so you're both right. It's true we don't know everything and that is ironically, saying the same thing or at least, a similar thing to what the other commenter said. Accepting you don't know it all is a good humble place to begin b/c God is the one who knows all and can help us figure things out. The spiritual wisdom is how the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom in that way, and how we admit we don't know what he does is that first step into letting go and letting God lead us to higher levels of wisdom.
Also, we can have wisdom of the world that comes from our own lived experiences. And this doesn't mean sinful worldly - it just means your full wholeness of life you've lived. For expl, I have a lot of wisdom from my spiritual insights and from my own intuition and hard lessons learned from mistakes I've made, from astute observations I've made from listening more to others, from intellectual & psychologically-learned insights, and from all the many adventures I've opened myself up to experiencing by living outside of the box of the boring, LIMITED status quo, outside of my own biased bubbles, which has brought me immense wisdom. ALL of these forms of wisdom count in their own unique ways. But there is the kind of wisdom we need to be able to survive and occupy on this earth and then there's life-long enduring wisdom that lingers into the afterlife.
When it comes down to it, what we're really discussing here is how these diff types of wisdom need to be better prioritized, from the most important, most essential wisdom to the lesser ones. The most important one that most ppl don't want to face or correct in themselves - is that of the heart - as in our relationship w/God. That is an eternal wisdom that should be placed at the top of our priority list b/c it takes us into the afterlife and the other wisdom forms we have outside of that won't be useful in the afterlife as they're only useful for earth purposes where we live in the flesh.
I find that this is where most ppl stumble and fight or debate in these limited ways b/c you're not allowing nuance to balance out the real full picture of complete CONTEXT & OBJECTIVE facts about what wisdom really is b/c it's so layered and nuanced. But as humans, we lean more on our own ego and get stuck in the personal bias of our opinions. And this is def not wise!

To tell anyone willing to stand up to the perversion and deception that they will change their mind. Meg rip reminds me of an abusive partner. Always there to remind you you better behave or you're going to get it. She seems so sweet, NOT! Christians stand against this perversion it is life destroying and sinful.

The only way faith will return is if it's brought back to popular culture including the TV programming, music, Hollywood stars aka the "role models." Only then will more parents and teachers bring it back into the household and school because parents unfortunately aren't welcoming morality at their own volition. Pop culture influences the people.

I proclaimed to be an atheist for decades, nearly 20 years I read the God Dillustion 5 times . Last year and over the last few, I came back to Christ. Like me when I followed him like a pastor,I'm telling you he is lying to him self. This is how O came to Christ I started taking my children to church for this reason but I have seen too much Truth in Scripture and faith. Dawkins wants people to be Christian, otherwise there can't be Christianity in your culture. 😢 The Holy Spirit is at work w The heart of Dawkins and the heart of Nonbelievers. It is much more logical to and probable that there is a God In our world and that there are too many coincidences to not believe in at least there is a benevolent creator we are patterned after. I came to Christ as a Staunch Non-believer. I also believe that Richard Dawkins can also Evolve, he has a large Cross to take up but I Pray that Christ Moves the Heart of Richard Dawkins and his Wife. I pray also For Ricky Gervais and his Partner that they come to the Lord and so many people who follow them will see their Evolution and have their hearts consumed as I have.
Imagine the Miracle of Christ's love Changing Richard Dawkins heart and mind. Imagine if like me Dawkins comes to Christ through Atheithism! Imagine how many hearts and minds that would change. I believe Jesus is seeking the heart of the Nonbeliever
I found christ through reading physics and theory by Scientist to see that there is something more, there is a Rainbow Connection and if My Nielistic heart can change so can Richard Dawkins'!!

Calling atheism a belief system, is like saying not collecting stamps is a hobby. Also, nobody claims everything came from nothing, the only people who claim this are theist. Ironically, because Christians believe God created everything from nothing. You listed a bunch of things you don't think science can account for. Are you saying your God exist in the ever receding gaps of our knowledge?
You're definitely putting a lot of words into Dawkins mouth here. By the way, he's been talking about being a cultural Christian for over 15 years, this isn't anything new from him. He thinks Christianity has better values than Islam, that's all he's saying. He's not begging for Christianity to come back, he just doesn't want Islamic culture to be propped up over Christianity, which makes sense, practically.

Righteousness comes by faith (Romans 1:17, quoting Habbakuk 2:4)
Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17)
To put it in sequence, the Word of God gives us faith, faith gives us righteousness, and righteousness gives us courage.
It's time to get righteous through the Word of God, written (bible) spoken (biblical preaching) and incarnate (personal relationship with Jesus through bible meditation and prayer)
Being "cultural Christians" is not evil, it's not devil worship, but it's not enough. We need to be bible Christians to live and preach with courage

He is seeing the artistic side of Christianity be stripped away … may God use this in some mysterious way to turn his soul. He said, it feels like home… and that’s Jesus, the Holy Trinity is “Home”, we rest in our Lord, He makes us family, “home” is a beautiful word to express Jesus, redemption with the Father, the COMFORTER Holy Spirit in a nutshell. He’s so close yet so far away.
he’s saying what we followers of Christ are “extreme” about - love, home, salvation! Of course we too see the womb as a “home” for a human too. Atheism can be (it is) extreme too, I mean he takes it to the extreme to have share his dogmas to the end of the globe. His book sales, that is extreme, and how has that helped mankind? And atheism can (does) have impacts just as “religion” does, at least (in some regards-) religion has a moral compass, ethics guidelines, whereas atheism is just flat. Sad… my heart was saddened to hear how he enjoys the songs that proclaim and praise Jesus (like Christmas songs) but doesn’t see the full picture, so close…. If he likes the cultural Christianity , well that didn’t come about without zealous acts of decades and years! Through martyrs and generations of joyful suffering to carry on the gospel brought that art . It didn’t just pop out of a machine. Let us pray for him, he will be extremely surprised at his deathbed 😢 or eternally too late - and in a place where there is zero Christian culture. Heartbreaking, Lord don’t stop pursuing this man’s soul, crack the rock heart, and deliver him from evil ❤ in Jesus’ holy name amen
