  • Today we’re joined by Lynn Wilder, author of Unveiling Grace: The Story of How We Found Our Way out of the Mormon Church and host of the “Unveiling Grace” podcast, who is sharing her story of finding Christ and leaving the Mormon church. We discuss her introductions to the Mormon church and what led her to not just join, but become deeply involved in Mormon community. We look at some general Mormon doctrine, such as what Mormons believe about the Bible and God’s unchanging nature. Lynn shares the instances that led to the breaking down of her Mormon faith, from teaching at BYU to hearing her son’s salvation story. We discuss Mormon influence over Christian homeschool curricula and media and some questions we should ask about this. Then, Lynn shares the gospel that changed her life.

I'm a Mormon watching this and I am so confused and struggling so much. I just want the truth. I desperately do not want God to say "depart from me, I know you not." That's my motivation on my faith journey. Please pray for me. I need God and Christ. I need to know the truth. My salvation depends on it.

Like mentioned in the interview, begin with reading the New Testament all the way through without putting LDS goggles on before you do. May the Lord bless you on this journey ❤️

I left Mormonism last year. I’ve lived in Utah most of my life. The last 10 years I was miserable, lonely, anxious and was suicidal. July 2023, I dropped to my knees and asked God to help me… that was the day I was finally going to take my life. BUT GOD. Now I’m living in the South, God moved my family away. Im born again. All the glory be to Him that saves. Thank you Jesus.

Former Mormon here. Thanks Lynn and Allie! I left ‘the church’ 40 years ago. Didn’t like it anymore even though it was my family’s religion from the beginning. I wanted to know the Bible and for years kept getting this prompting to learn the Bible. 20 years ago I started attending a Bible Study at a local Christian church and have been changed, made new, reborn, since then. I pray for the Mormon people every day of my new birth in Christ Jesus. God is good. His will be done.

I had some doubts about my faith in Mormonism growing up. The things we did and going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. I personally always felt unworthy and could never please God. Also asked to do things I didn’t want to do. I relied only on my feelings about the Book of Mormon. Of course I felt good about it. But there was always a void. I stopped going to church for a while and at age 35 I was trying to go back to the ward in my area. I wanted God but God had other plans. I started to hear the word of God and started reading the Bible. I decide not to pursue going back to the Mormon church and focus on my relationship with God in my home. God met me not in a church but at home. I started encountering him daily. He started transforming me. I knew I was saved by his grace and that Jesus fulfilled everything for me. What a relief!!!

This is the absolute opposite of what God wants us to experience. We should never feel like we have to always please Him or He will hate us. The Wilders definitely share this message and it's false. I'm LDS and feel such light and peace in my life when I steer clear of messages that are meant to create doubt and cast aspersions. The most important thing that we can do is to pursue things that will help us to uphold good values, build our inner light and build our inner happiness.

I was raised mormon. I remember the pressure of performance as a young child. My mother was raised as an evangelical Christian whose parents moved to Utah and she then met my Dad who is many generations mormon and he converted her to the LDS church. She even works at BYU now. I see the terrible pressure she is in to promote herself. My grandparents watched her turn from her Christian faith and mourned the loss of their daughter. I was about 18 when I left mormonism to follow a life of drugs, alcohol, and even went down the homosexual/new age rabbit hole. I got pregnant with my then boyfriend (now husband) when Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on my door. Their message felt so familiar to me but in an even more powerful way. I thought it must be the truth because this religion teaches world wide unity and rejects worldliness and anything that is "pagan". I was a zealous Jehovah Witness for 8 years. It wasn't until I started listening to CZcams influencers like Allie and Mike Winger and Aplogia Studios when I heard the voice of Jesus tell me "I AM" (which just blew open the Trinity to me). I surrendered in that moment and just wept on my knees. The pressure and anxiety of performance was over. Jesus said "It is finished" and meant it!! I was baptized this last summer and am teaching my wonderful children about the beautiful grace filled gospel and the true God of the Bible. Pray for my family because they are all still suffering in mormonism or new age beliefs. 🙏

To me, it just make so much sense that a perfect god would not count our salvation based on our performance but rather reward us appropriately for our performances. Because nothing we do will match his standard. We can’t unconditionally bare the burden of other’s sin and struggle like Christ.

Judge not lest ye be judged. There is no place in the Bible that explicitly says Mormons are not Christian and they are going to hell without needing extrapolation, inference, interpretation or opinion. That said, the most important thing in this life is that we build good relationships, pursue a path that will help us to uphold good values, build our inner light and to build our inner happiness. If those things are met, whatever path we choose the Lord will take care of us.

This will be long, but I want to share it. I was born into the Mormon Church. Served a mission, got married in the temple, my husband blessed our kids into it. Starting in 2019 at the age of 29, I had a series of strange dreams with meanings that didn't seem obvious to me. They included seeing church buildings on fire and trying to escape with my kids, swimming in water with sharks at a church event, but seeing a cross in the distance and being told to run to it. And other strange things. I felt like God was trying to tell me something, but I couldn't understand it because I loved the church and truly believed in it. I believed it was a good thing for myself and my family. Fast forward to about a year ago, and I was serving as a primary president in my ward when I watched this video. It was triggering. Many of your videos were triggering. They made me uncomfortable. Steve Deace's videos affected me the same way at the same time. But as I watched and listened, those dreams began to be illuminated to my mind. I started to understand what I was being warned of in them. I cried to God, telling Him that this was a confusing and hard thing for me and I wanted to know what to do. That night, I had another dream. I was a mormon missionary swimming through a high flood with my companion when I was suddenly bit by something I couldn't see in the water. My companion told me it was one of the invisible sharks, and it had taken a chunk out of my arm. I showed the mission president, other missionaries, and none of them seemed concerned. I was in so much pain and wanted help. No one would help me. The mission president's wife said "You were bit by necromancy. That will never stop hurting you." I cried out "My right arm offends me! I have to cut it off!" Then I woke up. I instantly remembered the dream about swimming with sharks at church and realized what it meant. I understood that all the work I did in the temple, all the mormon doctrine I believed, was rooted in this belief in necromancy. I had been attempting to engage in this relationship with dead people in order to save them, and that was not only offensive to God, but harmful to myself! My eyes have been opened to all of the other offensive and harmful doctrine of the LDS church, and I have left for Christianity. So all of this long post to say.. thank you! You and Steve Deace were instruments in God's call to get me out of this false and dangerous belief system. I can't thank you enough. Praise God!

He was never very invested in Mormonism to begin with. Now he attends with me at our local evangelical church most of the time. He says he believes that Jesus is God, and he asks questions sometimes. But he's not quite at the point of giving Himself to Jesus yet. I'm hopeful that God will continue to work on his heart, and am trying my best to put my faith in God for that. I am Lds and we do an rigorous study of the Bible. We are encouraged to study it and not only that, but to know the history behind all of it's writings. We are theists. Meaning, we read all of the words of the Bible and search for that truth. We don't cherry pick verses. We don't sit and listen to a pastor talk each Sunday. (Our church is volunteer based religion) We learn for ourselves. We make connections. Take this verse for instance.
"Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?"
      1 Corinthians 15:29 NKJV
The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints answers this question and many others.

    • @dz7a756
      @dz7a756 Před 6 měsíci +6

@ctcsadboc22 Not cherry-picking verses? I am glad you picked this 1 Corinthians 15 verse because it's good for deeper context, to quote the two verses above it:
For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.” (Of course, when it says “all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.)
Then, when all things are under his authority, the Son will put himself under God’s authority, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.
      1 Corinthians 15:27‭-‬28 NLT
God's authority, who gave His son Jesus Christ authority over all things everywhere.
So in other words, Joseph Smith doesn't have authority, the book of Mormon doesn't have authority, people over your wards don't have authority and neither do those men who claim to be prophets (that are false).
Anyone who claims to have the will of God in their lives will not have teachings and doctrines that go against the God in Jesus Christ's authority.
Be well and be at peace.

The Mormon "bible" is not the same as the KJV Holy Bible. Joseph Smith "cherry-picked" and changed, twisted/deleted/added... MANY words and verses in prophecy and scripture! If you were to get a REAL Bible and compare it to your Mormon "bible," you would see that Joseph Smith plagiarized the REAL Bible(and some literary works) when putting together the Book of Mormon, the Mormon "bible," AND The Pearl of Great Price, AND the Doctrines and Covenants. It's all FICTION made up by Joseph Smith. I encourage you to go watch a YT video at Expedition Bible and watch a Christian and devout Mormon comparing/debating the ACTUAL ancient Holy Scriptures using Joseph Smith's "bible," ancient manuscripts and the Dead Sea Scrolls. It proves that Joseph Smith was a false prophet. Many of his prophecies NEVER came true(which defines a FALSE PROPHET). Hopefully, you will SEE...hopefully, God will open your eyes to the truth. Mormonism is just NOT TRUE. Jesus is NOT the brother of Lucifer/Satan. God was NOT "just a man," there is NO BAPTISM for the dead, there are no secret names, underwear, rituals, etc., etc. in TRUE Christian faith and salvation by faith in Christ ALONE.@@ctcsadboc22

Unfortunately, the LDS church's belief on works is poorly represented in this video. The LDS church doesn't believe any amount of works will save anyone. I just want to be really clear about that. The LDS church doesn't believe you can simply bypass the Messiah and ignore His sacrifice by doing good things. He is the only way to salvation and is the gate through which we enter. To put this in context, the reason this error about LDS belief is so pervasive is other Christian churches had a big problem back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's because the LDS membership was known as being strange but extremely devout. As in, the LDS were literally known for trying really hard to be Christian. To counter that belief, Evangelical's in particular came up with this idea that the LDS religion worships another Jesus and doesn't believe he is necessary for salvation. After more than 50 years of preaching that to their congregations there are a disappointing number of Christians who believe it because they trust their pastors. So much so that a growing number of Christians are actually scared to even associate with LDS members. Anyway, don't take the information in this video too seriously. Hopefully, it's well-intentioned but you'd be better off going to the LDS website if you want to know what they teach.

From the LDS website, "Mormons believe that all men and women ever to be born, including Jesus Christ, lived with God as His spirit children before this life. God wanted each of us to come to earth to gain experience, learn, and grow to become more like Him. But God also knew that His children would all sin, die, and fall short of His glory. We would need a Savior to overcome our sins and imperfections and reconcile us with God. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ was chosen to be this Savior long ago during our premortal life with God." This, along with so many other Mormon beliefs, clearly demonstrates that Mormons worship a different Jesus than the Jesus of Christianity.

Pray that God will reveal Himself to you, it may not happen immediately, but He WILL. He longs to bring us back to where we need to be. ❤. I am finally on firm ground, and whenever my faith starts wavering, I remember those specific personal spiritual experiences with God. Just take all your doubts, questions, and confusion to Him. He understands that we have human minds, and that Satan stops at nothing to confuse us! God WILL bring clarity. And also, of course reading the Bible….and, one of my all time favorite (famous) pastors are Charles Stanley, and David Jeremiah. Their messages are so easy to understand, because they speak it like it is….and straight from the word of God. Also, find out what your local Christian radio stations are….there are lots of amazing pastors speaking throughout the day (great music as well). Praying you get the clarity you are seeking. 🙏💛

The Bible says that it’s not by works, but it’s by faith that we are saved. Also, Jesus said that there are no husbands or wives in Heaven. There is only one heaven (one new earth), it’s called the New Jerusalem and Jesus will be the light to that earth, where all those that believe and confess with their mouths will be in. There no other heavens. The uttermost important commandment is to love God, but if you don’t know who God really is, idk how you will accomplish this commandment. How can you have faith if you don’t know the true Jesus? Thus, pick up a Bible and read it with fresh eyes. Men will not become gods of their own earth, there will be no husband or wives in heaven, there will be no sex in Heaven.

I could not possibly be more excited for this episode! I was born and raised LDS and I was absolutely DEVOUT. In June of 2021, Lynn's son, Micah, was the spark that started a wildfire of study and prayer in my home, all directed at finding the truth of Jesus' biblical gospel. I left the Mormon church and my husband followed a year later. We PRAISE GOD that He brought us out while our children are still small so that we can raise them up in the way they should go.
If anyone's willing, we would joyously welcome prayers for our family who haven't yet accepted the biblical gospel of salvation by grace alone through faith alone. ❤️
(Side note, be sure you read both Unveiling Grace AND Passport to Heaven! They enrich each other beautifully.)
EDIT: I reached Lynn's testimony at the end and it made me feel like grinning and crying and punching the air and shouting "YES! HE IS SO GOOD!!!" all at the same time. What a beautiful gospel. His love wrecks me over and over and over again.

I left when I was 22 (was disfellowshipped) then returned at 24, left 6 months later (ended up disfellowshipped again- I really didn't know any other way to get out than make a mistake), completely confused and my spirit was telling me this wasn't the truth. Happy to say 11 years later, Jesus (God) lead me back to him. I was saved on 10/31/22 along with my husband. It's so incredible that I was never taught to believe that we are saved by grace, it was all by works... even then "probably you might get saved", it was never enough... it was very hard to walk away and lose everyone I ever knew but, it was the right thing looking back. I hope anyone reading this that is in a religious group teaching doctrines that are contrary to the gospel to please pray for the truth to come into your heart. Yeah like maybe her boss, Glenn Beck. I cannot imagine working for somebody who gives you the platform to make money and a living, and then disparaging their religion. I would never do that to anyone whether it was a Christian, Muslim, Jew or Mormon. It's gross. I love how of course the majority of comments just assume everything in this interview is the absolute truth and are sharing it and "convicted" to "save" their Mormon friends and "had no idea" about this and are so grateful Allie and this person have enlightened them. Of all the religions out there I think Mormonism already gets the most hate and derision even from those whom they hoped would be allies. It's not like they need MORE people "enlightened" against them. As Mormons we're used to it but it doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt. I've gotten to the point where I never engage with people about the tenets of my faith. It's not worth it. The vast majority of people have already been indoctrinated and equipped by the Internet or their own pastors to vehemently insist we're wrong and not Christian and a cult and know what we believe and where we're going better than we do. It's pointless. I think the best think to do in regards to Allie for Mormons is to just unfollow. She's always been anti Mormon like most Christians I've encountered in my life. Why not use the new conservative line, "stop giving your money/business to people who hate you."

I also figured I could absolutely benefit and learn from this woman's perspective and experience. I have enjoyed listening to your podcast for a couple of years now. I have loved supporting a Christian woman who shares so many of my views. That being said, I found it shocking that you would put this interview out there. I am all for hearing about other people's experiences and I wanted to hear what this woman has to say/believes. I have known many people who have left the LDS church for various reasons. It's interesting to hear their stories as well as the many stories of people who join our church. I was mostly just taken back at the way you carried the interview knowing that many of your listeners could be LDS. We absolutely believe in Jesus Christ as our savior and redeemer. To say we don't is hurtful. I don't feel like this was a fair depiction of what we believe in its entirety. I honestly can't understand how you could throw so much negative energy into this interview considering what is happening in the world. We are good people who follow Jesus Christ and are trying our best to serve and love those around us. I have NEVER commented on a public forum of any kind until today. This stirred so many feelings in me that I had to comment. Just a little side note: next year, our church curriculum will be dedicated to the study of the new testament again (just finished a year of the old testament) I am excited to read, study, and discuss it as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Learning of Him is how we become more like Him. That's the ultimate goal. We should be encouraging each other.

My husband is an ex Mormon by marriage. He taught in the Mormon church was sealed in the Temple. He was told specifically that he cannot trust the Holy Bible and was discouraged to teach out of it. He started to question these things and started to get called into the Bishops office and he started to push back against in search of truth and was getting shunned. He ended up finding the true gospel and found freedom in Christ. He can now say that He knows without a shadow of a doubt where he will be for all eternity not because of the rules he followed, but because of his faith in what Jesus did for him. He now has that Blessed Assurance. He knew as a Mormon he couldn’t have. He would always have fear or wonder where he stood with his own righteousness which as the Bible says is like filthy rags. When we believe upon Jesus and what He did by shedding His blood for the washing away of our sins, we can have assurance of our Salvation because of His righteousness and His obedience to the Father, not our own to be saved. He doesn’t want a legal relationship (the spinning on the hamster wheel never knowing if we are ever going to be ‘good enough’), He wants our heart. A real active loving relationship with Him by the power of the Holy Spirit. ♥️

The Comment from Robyn is typical from the Mormons that I knew. First it’s amazing the stories and untrue things they claimed and still believe about me. Second, it is likely true what she said about being uncomfortable. A few people, especially leaders were uncomfortable to hear the word of god from the Bible. It made them uncomfortable because it challenged many of their beliefs. This is direct proof that Mormonism is not Christian. I was never ordained by Christ. I was saved by Christ. In the same way anyone who goes to Christ is saved. I am episcopal now, baptized and confirmed. I hear the word most Sundays preached as it should be. Waking up to Mormonism was a process. It involved reading the scriptures. I learned that Joe Smith, a sociopath and megalomaniac, copied much of the Book of Mormon from the Bible. Sadly, many Mormons cannot see the deception. It hurts them. It makes them fee uncomfortable. And to deal with it they slander and libel anyone who they see as departing their path. This is common cult behavior. Mormonism is a cult. It was founded by a sociopath snd it is not Christian. Thank the Lord I was saved and born again.

19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof."
To be fair, hopefully you realize that in comparison, these ladies are being very gentle in their approach.
Truth being objective, discussions about the essential differences in teachings between the Bible and Joseph Smith’s should not be immediately perceived as a personal attack.

There are answers and with God we do not need more faith than the abundance of evidence there actually is. As an Ex-Member myself, there is no need to "bash" one another, but rather love one another in the truth.

D&C 101 condemning polygamy was removed. D&C 132 where people who deny the 'eternal principle of polygamy' will be condemned replaced it.

@@halodisciple8459 There are a lot of inconsistencies in the Mormonism.
The Book of Mormon teaches that there is one, eternal God- three persons.
2 Nephi 31:21 “….And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.”
Alma 11:44 and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.
D&C 20:28 Which Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God, infinite and eternal, without end. Amen.
Mormon 7:7 And he hath brought to pass the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgment day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end.
Later on, Joseph Smith said the Book of Mormon was wrong. God is not eternal. There is not one God, but actually three God's.
"I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods,"
(Teachings of Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 370).
“We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see. These are incomprehensible ideas to some, but they are simple. It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God, and to know that we may converse with him as one man converses with another and that he was once a man like us; yea, that God the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did, and I will show it from the Bible”

Maybe you should suggest the change. They did remove some parts that were racist and parts that did not follow the story line.
      For example,
. . . “In Mosiah 21:28 the name of the king has been changed from Benjamin to Mosiah. In the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon we read as follows:
"... king Benjamin had a gift from God, whereby he could interpret such engravings ..." (Book of Mormon, 1830 edition, page 200)
Unfortunately the author forgot that king Benjamin was already dead. In modern editions of the Book of Mormon this verse has been changed to read:
"... king Mosiah had a gift from God, whereby he could interpret such engravings ..." (Book of Mormon, 1964 edition, Mosiah 21:28)
According to chronology found in the Book of Mormon, king Benjamin was dead at this time; therefore, the Mormon Church leaders evidently felt that it was best to change the king's name to Mosiah.

I grew up Mormon. I stopped attending when I was 18. I attend a nondenominational Christian church now after taking many years away from church in general because of the pressures I felt growing up in the Mormon church. I just wanted to live my life. However, these types of conversations have never sat well with me. Mormons believe in Christ. He is their Savior. I mean… the full name of the church is centered around ‘Christ’. The actual Bible is still very much alive and breathing in most mormon households. Now, are there Mormons who have taken ‘their truth’ too far? Of course. It is why so many children in the mormon church suffer from depression and suicide rates are higher than normal society. Are there Mormons who push and shove their beliefs onto others? Making the church look like it is some exclusive club that only a select few are welcome to? Yes, of course. But every religion has people who act in these ways. ‘Religion’ as we know it will and can never be perfect… because humans run religion. And human will never be perfect. There has been and will always be only one perfect person to ever walk the face of the earth… and that is where my faith now lies. My journey has led me back to that reality, and Christ is the center of my ‘religion’. But every church, every sect of Christianity, every ‘religion’… will be flawed, and of course they will all have people who don’t portray or live in a way that Christ truly would have acted. Find me a perfect church, and I’ll show you a church lacking humility. Christ alone is who I pursue. The church I attend is simply the place I feel most connected to him and enjoy worshipping. I was careful about which church I chose, but my faith is built every other day of the week, not just Sunday. Be kind to one another, Merry Christmas to all.

I am a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For many years we had accepted the label of "Mormon" as a way to turn what was meant as a derogatory term into something that would be seen as positive through our relationship with God and with our brothers and sisters. Now we have shifted back to correcting the misnomer that we are "Mormons" because it does not accurately represent where our faith lies and Who is in the center of our worship.
With all respect, Lynn inaccurately portrayed beliefs we hold. One big one is the claim that we never called ourselves Christian until recently. In truth, everything in this Church is and always has been centered around Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Him (it adds its witness to the Old and New Testament). I know this is true because I've read it and applied the principles therein to my life, and everytime I have done so with a sincere desire to do better, God has changed me. I know that what the Book of Mormon teaches is true because of how it's led me to the healing power of my Savior, just as the Bible has. I am a Christian, and I love my Redeemer.
I did not complete this video. It was upsetting that our beliefs were being portrayed with falsehood. Please, if it's possible to do without it becoming combative, have an active member of the Church come on and state his or her beliefs. We want everyone to know that we believe in Jesus Christ. He is our God. We love Him.
If anyone has questions about our beliefs, please visit the Church's official website at churchofJesusChrist.org. A good place to start would be www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/about-us.
The Book of Mormon is also available to view at www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm?lang=eng. The invitation is open to all to read it and discover for yourself whether it is the word of God.

I'm only part way through the video myself, so I can't yet speak to what she discussed, but I think you may find Micah Wilder's book to be a helpful perspective since he was born into the faith and obviously had a very different perspective than his mom. It makes me so sad that in a time like this that churches are trying to discredit other religions. This is a time when we need to come together in likeness and fight the evils of the world. That’s the real enemy here, Satan and what he’s doing to this world.
We all believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. We all believe in being good to our fellow man, loving our neighbor. We need to come together.
I have never had a closer relationship with my savior, and had a full understanding of the atonement, then I do now as a member of the LDS church. Who are you to tell me I’m wrong in MY faith. I know that one day I will be with my Father in Heaven. If that give me and so many others comfort then what is it to you?
I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I am a Christian. And you telling me I’m not does nothing to my faith or my salvation.
And BTW: anyone on here that says that all the “Mormons” are getting upset in their comments, is wrong about that. I can guarantee, just as I am writing this now, that every LDS member who has commented is doing it with a very calm spirit. No anger or hate. Just defending what we believe to be right FOR US.

Do you believe that Jesus is God and always has been God, like what she was reading in John 1? *sincere question*
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
It’s just hard to tell, when you say you believe in Jesus, I just don’t know what you mean exactly, or what you believe about Him. When Jesus interacted with demons, they knew him, believed he is who he says he is, and proclaimed it - so they believed but in a different way, and of course there was no salvation in it for them.
Do you trust that the atoning work of Jesus at the cross is required and sufficient for salvation?

Jesus + nothing = everything. I was raised Mormon and married in “The Temple”. By the Grace of God He pulled me out (think a toy claw machine) and after some time away, He opened my eyes to the truth. I once was lost, but now I’m found. Once was blind but now I see. That song was truly inspired- it’s exactly how I feel. My entire family are strong, true believing Mormons, including my amazing husband (I pray for him every day). I can totally relate to Lynn with God opening my eyes to all of my sins. I always thought I was SUCH A GOOD PERSON. I did NOT fear God, I did NOT understand his HOLINESS, or goodness or righteousness. Boy have my eyes been opened! I have a strong righteous fear of the Lord now, and not a day goes by that I don’t offer a heartfelt prayer of gratitude for what he’s done for a sinful wretch like me. God is so good! I will start by saying the most of my childhood was in a place of darkness. My parents were members of the church so we did have the Book of Mormon is our house but I was never taught anything about the gospel when I was growing up. When I finally decided to pray to God for the first time I felt His love so strongly, I will never forget it. During this prayer, the Holy Spirit prompted me to go and open the Book of Mormon. I felt his truth and love coming the scriptures as I read. I will never forget it. I will always testify of the truth of the Book of Mormon it IS a testament of Jesus Christ. I understand you don’t believe that and that’s fine as we are all on our spiritual journey. But you are asking what your guest specifically said that isn’t accurate according to what we believe. I cannot address everything she said in a youtube comment but I will share a couple of things. Again, as others have said, if you truly do want to understand our doctrine better please ask someone who is an active member. Why not have Glenn Beck on your show?
Your guest says over and over that this is a religion of works and only our works get us into heaven. SO NOT TRUE. We do believe in BOTH works and grace as it says in James 2:20- But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead. In the Book ofMormon it says in Moroni 10:32- Yea, come unto Christ and be perfected in him and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might , mind, and strength, then is his GRACE sufficient for you that by his GRACE that ye may be perfect in Christ and if by the GRACE of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. There are so many more scriptures about grace but I’ll leave it at that. Of course our works matter, what we choose to do in this life matters. If we have faith we will ACT on it. Your guest even said if we have faith, then we will repent. Repentance is an act. Why would there be a final judgement if what we did on this earth doesn’t matter? But we are a fallen and imperfect people and we need the grace of Christ to be forgiven of our sins. As for the cultural side of things. Yes, we tend to serve a lot! But we do not believe there is an act of service tracker in heaven keeping track of all our acts to make sure we get into heaven.
We do not believe that God changes. In the Book of Mormon- 1 Nephi 10:18 For he is the same yesterday, today and forever. But we do believe God can change what he commands us to do. For example why do Christians not practice animal sacrifice anymore, why is it okay to eat pork now, why do we not practice the law of circumcision? All of these things were once practiced in the Bible.
And I’m sorry I had to laugh out loud when your guest was talking about our church infiltrating homeschool curricula. Our church does NOT advocate homeschooling in any way. Though I think they should. But the truth is, is that you are weird your family decides to homeschool. It’s definitely against the culture.
Unfortunately, there is division within our church on the belief of polygamy being practiced in the past. Again, I couldn't even begin to discuss in a youtube comment. But there are definitely two sides to this. Same with blacks and the priesthood.
It seems that your guest has trouble reading scripture. She seems unfamiliar with what our scriptures actually say. It is her fault for never reading the bible and for not teaching her teaching her children to read the bible. In our home it is read everyday. I feel bad for her son who went to serve a mission so unprepared.
There is definitely a cultural battle happenining within our church. The ideas of liberalism have taken the hearts of many. But then, that’s why many of us conservative members come to your show to listen. Allie, I have LOVED your show. I have been a listener for the past four years. And no, I never expected you to understand the doctrine of my church. I agree with others that this has been hurtful because I know you would never do this to the Catholic faith nor the Jewish faith. Even though I know you do not agree with their theology.
Also this is not the church of Mormon. It is the church of Jesus Christ. The definition of a Christian is one who follows Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Yes, I am a Christian because I gave my heart and life to follow Jesus Christ.

I'm so deeply put off by the fact that Allie would pick Lynn Wilder, of ALL people to have a discussion about Mormonism with. Lynn didn't say one thing that was even remotely true, and her perspective is completely jaded.
It seems like Allie already had her mind set on Mormonism, and then invited someone who would confirm what she wants to believe.
It would be like deciding that eating meat is bad, and then inviting a PETA activist on, so you can both talk about how people who eat meat are bad.
      So incredibly disheartening.

If it’s not a works-based religion, then why does the third LDS article of faith explicitly state that all mankind may be saved by *obedience to the gospel laws and ordinances*
What purpose does the temple serve? Don’t you have to keep the Word of wisdom, serve your callings, tithe 10%, etc to even have access to the temple to do even more of saving ordinances necessary for eternal life?
I really don’t mean to sound sassy or rude-I just don’t understand how Mormons can say they believe in grace while also clinging to the works they must do to enter into the celestial kingdom and hopefully attain exaltation.

Mormons believe God is the God of this planet correct? Not the creator of all existence? Because their belief in the exaltation through all these different means leads to you basically becoming a god one day. That being said, you believe that is what happened to this planet. Who you reference as “heavenly father” is really just someone else who’s made it to exaltation, and now you’re waiting for your turn? Am I wrong about this. Explain. Because if God is the creator of all things in the Old Testament, how do you think you become exalted to a “god” of your own planet. Your god is not the God we believe in. We believe in Him as the creator, as we have been told in the Old Testament.

Traditionally the Christian Jesus is different from the LDS Jesus…who do you say Jesus is?
The OT law and sacrifices were only temporary and the animal sacrifices had to be repeated to continue to take away sins. Now, Jesus came and fulfilled the law. He was the ultimate sacrifice for all sin . He died for our sins - upon the cross said “it is finished.” The law was there to show us our sin, now it is written upon the hearts of believers through the Holy Spirit. Hebrews is a good book to help understand this.
