  • Some people don't seem to be as affected by challenging experiences than others. What they have more of is called "resilience"-the ability to bounce back better and/or quicker after a set-back. In this video I share a brain-imaging study that shows the differences between resilient and not-so-resilient brains and what we can learn from this.

“In study after study, just as we found, researchers found that people who bounce back show more emotional complexity when facing stressors. When stress arrives at your doorstep does positivity fly out the window? For many people it does. But not for those who score high on resiliency surveys. Instead of simply succumbing to negativity, these folks also retain their positivity. Their emotions are more complex because their positivity sits side by side with their negativity. They don’t deny the reality of negativity, but they don’t wallow in it either.“ Barbara Fredrickson

Luckily the brain is constantly developing new cells, so it can learn well 🧠🌱

What psychology ignores is the biochemical effects of chronic stress which can originate in the womb and continue on throughout your life. Stress causes kryptopyrroles to increase which bind to Vitamin B6 and C, Zinc and Magnesium all which are very important for a functional HPA axis. Once chronically low on these important nutrients Emotional Intelligence is thrown out the window as it causes a very short fuse from being chronically stressed

Thanks for sharing this! I've also learned this, that past trauma increases our sensitivity towards stress.
