From Mess to Marvel: This Backyard really needed a Restoration!

- So you may think that this property looks familiar, and you wouldn't be wrong. A couple of weeks ago and did a cleanup next door and noticed that the neighbour's place needed a cleanup as well. When I knocked on the door and offered to do a free cleanup, the tenant was more than happy for me to go ahead. The couple living here have a young family, and I thought it would be nice to clean up their yard for them. Now the children have somewhere nicer to play. All up, I spent around 11 hours on this job, including 2 trips to the landfill.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working. All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved.
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?

Not everyone my friend. There are very few who give attention to the detail. George, Blade mate and Tim the lawnmower man….All of them are class but none of them are my city unfortunately…..
Not only does George put crazy attention to detail in his work but he helps people who are actually living in these homes, not just abandoned properties.

George you are a marvel. No one cleans up a property like you do. Of the mowers I have watched in the United States no one removes trash and green waste like you do. You could hold a clinic. And I think all communities show give free trips to the dump or tip to you people doing this service. Thank you.

What a lovely clean up of the yard! More purposeful for older kids that don’t play with the smaller toys you hauled away, and a more open lot with the ability to see and avoid the rocks and garden beds. It is so open and clean now! Great vid!👍👍👏👏

You worked your usual magic and the yard looks so much bigger then it did before. Maybe that will help the parents teach the children how to help with that back yard by picking up the toys they bring out and putting them back where they belong so Dad doesn't have a harder time of mowing the back yard for them to play in. We can but hope. You did wonderful job of making that lawn safer for the kids to play in. Bravo!

Hi George , love your videos I can’t get over how dry it is in Tassie I live in central Victoria and I have to mow twice a week the east coast of Australia seems to be getting the rain and Tassie is missing out.
Yeah, I know. It's mostly just the South East around Hobart. I think the rest of Tassie has been around average, but below average down here. We had 36mm in January 🤔

well done, George, hard work, but a sad scenario. that poor 'lawn' needs water. and those random rock clusters need to be moved to the fence line to make the area safer for children. I hope when they see the improvement the renters will make changes.
