I think the biggest issue with car groups (in my area) is the sheer amount of immature people involved. People are constantly going back and forth on IG over who is low and who isn’t, who has “clout” and who doesn’t, bags vs static, etc. I go to a car meet maybe once a month that’s usually full of the older generation. No one there gives a damn what you drive as long as you like it

Car clubs are just drama and the last car club I went into was filled of guys over 30 years old. I went in thinking I would be with mature people but I ended up being around cocky old people who thought they were the shit. They would call any other car a basic POS but the main guy did a basic carbon fiber set up that's been done for years 😂 (carbon fenders, hood, trunk, shit dude did carbon doors)

I only got into cars because of a local car club. Everyone had clean budget builds, including a 600+ hp fox body, a 340 hp Tiburon on a body kit, a vortec sc 350Z, two VR4 3k GTs and many Mustangs. I joined it and bought my first Mustang a year after. We did cruise-in for a cause which was a car show where people brought toys to the show and we personally drove them to a children's hospital every year. We had a club shop and life was great. Things just kinda fell apart between people having kids and just having the wrong people join just because of what they drove. Went from feeling like a family to a group of peeps with interesting cars... Really miss the hours of driving with 20+ people all with the same club banner on their cars :/ I do have a WCEC sticker on my ST even though I'm not really involved, gotta rep Wisconsin though!!🧀

I feel ya. I got into cars to learn the technical aspect, especially as a science geek - going for the most powerful and reliable car. And then it got to a point where it was all about the clout, the sideshows, and other BS. Through it all, it is how you make of it. A car should be about what you want. And from there you’ll find the right community.

I run and created my local car club “Alliance Auto Club” in 2016, we have 1000 members for a smaller area in my province (Canada). What your saying is absolutely true, we have a merch line, and I sell group stickers. I keep decent control over stupid behaviour (which I think is what drives a lot of the older people away) and my group seems to have a very diverse age, youngest being 16/17 just getting their license, all the way up to late 60s, it’s a pretty cool feeling to have a group the way it is. I think the older folk have a big impact on the younger gens in our group.
Great video, you checked alot of boxes that needed to be checked, and in general pretty much made a good example of how the 21st century car clubs begin to die early on.

I'd rather roll with a crew of 100 shit boxes that guys just love and work on as they can afford than 2 "sick builds" with some IG stars. They are the reason people slap cheap shit on their car rather than save for the quality parts from good manufacturers as finances allow. Cheers to you!

Facebook killed car clubs, the introduction of social media and FB pages became the platform instead of Forums. Forums could create private events that only members knew about. Once social media came along, private events were took over like strangers coming to a house party.

The issues with car clubs are well some of the obvious. Immaturity and lack of respect, the undeniable hatred toward anything and everyone else's build, lack of actual growth within the club and the over growth. I mean I been in the game a long time and through some spectacular 600 plus car shows. Not 1 glitch why because the Immaturity was able to exist throughout my event. Owning a car and building one isn't the same. The as we call car passion is an expensive drug that constantly needs to be fed and I don't think people take that into account. So for me 400hp is alot for let's 75% of the people on the road. Having the same exact car build is not in anymore. Creativity and being completely different is the way to go. Except for stamped ass cars riding sideways on their rims nah can't even get with that lol

Lowered or not. Clapped out or riced out. It doesn't matter. We have about 100 members right now. And while we don't always have the greatest turnout for various events, knowing that someone in the group knows how to do this or that, how to solve this issue or that one, or knowing where to find aftermarket parts, tunes, mods etc, is a valuable resource.

i grew up around car clubs, i can tell you exactly what happened to car clubs. 1. Politics. showing up to car club meets felt like going to family court. mfs mad at others over whos in charge and whos in control. mfs campaigning for favortism and when you show up you feel like you have to pick sides so car club meetings felt more like a jerry springer show. and 2. Dues and fees. why the hell do you need to pay to hang out with friends doing what you like you better hace $30 every tuesday for them and if you broke a rule or missed a meeting you suddenly owe fees and fines. this was bullshit especially when we all knew the club president was paying his rent and building his car and buying his beer with our money. lastly 3. Rules. if im going to build my car without your help or you paying for any of it why am i going to listen to you tell me what to do with the car especially if i can and am doing more with my car than the rest of the club.
want a car club to work and be enjoyable? No one is in control its just all your friends hanging out meeting up and going to shows together, NO DUES OR FEES, no rules or obligations. if you are a dumbass and do dumb shit while wearing the club logo youre out its that simple but youre screened for a while before you can join anyways

I think this video touched a big issue with the car scene today and why the meets aren’t as good as they could be. When the car clubs were a huge part around here, I’m talking pre WCEC. Clubs like Positive Force, Lowered Images and Import Dynamics younger car enthusiasts would act better at meets. Most guys wanted to eventually be or build something to be in one of those clubs. Well with wanting to join you needed to show up to events and conduct yourself in a manner for them to let you in. When the clubs went away there was no social hierarchy to rein in this behavior. Now you have a situation where most guys over the ages of 30-35 have left the social part of the scene because of this. They don’t want their rare and/or expensive cars around a kid that might try a burnout and hit their car or kick up rocks at it. Now those older more mature enthusiasts are only found at Road America or the cars and coffee meets around the state. The other meets and shows in WI should be so much better with the rich history of Motorsports here but until the scene calms down there will continue to be issues getting the older crowd out and about.

I’d say about half the posts in all the car meet up groups where I live are people roasting other people or talking crap. I’m in a Veloster N group thats pretty tight knit but unfortunately many of the other Ns don’t come to events. I do sorta wish the cost to entry was more than hitting join and verifying your make a model on a Facebook group.

    • @rawrbrz
      @rawrbrz Před 2 lety +1

creating more barrier to entry definitely makes being in a club feel more worthwhile. make a private fb page, make your events private so new people can only really find out by word of mouth. and make it so new people have to show up to 3 meets in order to get invited to the private group and get their decal

Car Clubs today are generally either people that really love cars and have skill or their punks that only like getting involved in drama or trying to clout chase I tried once only once. After that I'd meet up with lots of individual clubs and ask what it is they actually do. If they can't answer those questions I move on. At that point you answer my question right there. I go out to take pictures they keep me in the loop.

Everything’s so open and accessible if you don’t like something you leave and then join another
There’s no importance to a lot of clubs now and when people find a club that values it’s members and it’s members value the club they (the people wanting to join) don’t want to deal with the commitment or pay/give to keep the club alive.
What people want is a fancy looking sticker to keep up for a few months and then change.

The fancy sticker part is very true. Personally, i view car clubs as mostly a "sense of belonging" type thing these days. And with that the "us vs. them" mentality might follow suit, given enough idiots in one car club or another, which doesn't exactly create a foundation for a healthy, non-troublesome community.

Car clubs are definitly going through growing pains. I think people that are just getting into cars are introduced by this instant gratification car club stuff that facebook has been feeding us and they dont know how good it can b in a proper car club. The group I am working with currently, Cruising Addicts, that my friends and I founded out of me just hosting cruises down to WCEC events for the past 4 years is something that I want to push into that gap that between internet car clubs and old school car clubs. I feel if we can make a proper hybrid of the two I really think we could make something really awesome!
