I could not understand her favorite jewelery brand or also the affordable one, She also mentioned two clothing brands, Joseph and the other was academic? You two should do another one maybe on makeup brands and how to get that parisan `hair i think of it as that Bridget Bardot look lol,. Thank you Kate I hope you are feeling well and ready for the birth of your child, it will be such a wonderful experience. Oh last thing, I dont know if you ve done this but could you talk about renting and buying a place in Paris, best neighbors (I love the 18, 9 and 10) and best closest suburbs near france to buy in. When I booked a "wardrobe consultation" a few years ago, I had to fill out a questionnaire which included naming my "style icon". I went with Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris -- I think she always looks so relaxed and cool. Sadly, I can't pull off shirts with buttons because I have boobs, aka those mystical unicorns that buttoned-clothing designers have never seen and will never believe in.

    I study French and American fashion from the mid-1800s, and it’s interesting to see that the things which would make one of those dresses stand out as quintessentially French are apparently now _not_ French.

    OMG the hair ha ha ha! Seeing the newscasters on TV with huge unruly (even frizzy) curls is still so unnerving for me. I'm not used to it, because gosh that would never happen in the U.S. But the truth is, the idea that our natural hair isn't good enough is kind of annoying once you think about it! So honestly I prefer the French way. I brought a straightener with me that I used to use every day, that I now haven't touched in months. And the truth is...my hair has gotten a lot healthier and looks better natural now because it's not so fried. And my (French) boyfriend has specifically requested that I keep wearing it this way even after I go back to the States. 😄I'll try!
    Thanks for this video - I feel like it was for me! 😄It's funny, whenever I walk past Mango I'm like "gosh that's too trendy for me", but I think it's probably just too trendy if I'm buying staple pieces. I'll try it again soon, but with the eye for more "accessorizing/transitory" pieces. I always feel boring here in Paris because I have some good staples in neutrals but not much beyond scarves for anything with some character.
    The one thing I would add that you guys didn't touch upon is that I find the French (not just the Parisians) are really good at putting together things that don't necessarily *match*, but that still complement each other. That's what takes an outfit to the next level I think...and I have no idea how to do that. 😂

    • @UnintentionallyFrenchified
      @UnintentionallyFrenchified  Před 4 lety +3

      Such a great insight about the non matching, matching!! And i would totally agree that mango is too trendy for staple pieces and the quality isn't great so it would be a waste of money to expect it to last really long, so try to go for the trendy pieces in mind. and congrats on letting your hair go all natural. I'm sure it's more healthy for it and you just gotta embrace all the curls and waves if you've got them!

  • @lavinder11
    @lavinder11 Před 4 lety +8

    Thanks for this video. I especially love the brand recommendations.
    I work in fashion/beauty with a lot of French people. The simplicity, dark colors and the amount of work they put into appearing to be effortless were the most noticeable things.
    While I do appreciate the attention to detail, emphasis on minimalistic and dainty things and lack of bared breasts, I find Parisian fashion, as a whole, to be uninspiring and a bit formulaic, especially the intentional lack of color.
    One of my friends has red hair and intense blue eyes. She used to wear colors that brought out those contrasts, but after living in Paris for four years, she came back wearing all black, which made her look a bit drab.
    But I think this depends on your social circle as well. I know many French artists in Paris and Afro-Europeans who don't subscribe to the stereotypical Parisian style and they still look chic. Also, I think the youth are beginning to change these rules w/youtube and Instagram lookbooks. They seem to be taking cues from London fashion.

    • @UnintentionallyFrenchified
      @UnintentionallyFrenchified  Před 4 lety +4

      I would love to see a more vibrant style take a hold of the Parisians because i do agree with you that it can get a bit drab if you wear all black all the time! But when I really get ready, it's so obvious that I've made an effort. I love how the French constantly look effortlessly, naturally, beautiful!

    Au cours d’une douzaine d’années passée dans littéralement les plus grosses multinationales françaises dans les années 1995-2007, je peux dire que cette mode des neutrals, blanc et noir, n’existait pas à l’époque. Les gens portaient de la couleur. La prochaine fois que je passe à Paris j’y prêterai attention.
    Le plus grand tout de force des parisiennes est, même en étant à la bourre, qu’elles arrivent en 5 min à se donner ce côté chic et naturel (et sexy). Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

There are definitely plenty of brands and boutiques in Paris that offer staple pieces for lower budgets than some of the brands I mentioned for long term investments, which are only some of my personal favorites :) I hope you were still able to relate to some of the other points in this video!
