It was said that these locos (also known as Intercity 225 when with the carriages) were `state of the art DC' when they came out in the late 80s and they still may be now that AC motors are the norm. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of traction motor noise in the obviously well insulated cab until at 02.22 the driver `put his foot down' and the loco really sounded like it was working. It's good to see these British designed & built locos still running and working so well. Thanks for posting.
Terrific! The landscape between Kings X and Finsbury Park has totally changed since 1997.
Thanks mate!
Wow!
Great video mate liked and subbed :-)
Thanks and no Problem.
Very true you hear the grumble from the start like the 86's 87's because the motors are suspended on the bogies like a cd mechanism theres no vibration transfer into the cab. I missed my train once and still didn't hear nothing but fans when the loco left kings cross!
Yes they're a Great Loco
take it you like your electrics LOL, Thanks :-)
Yes, judging from the few vids on YT, the Class 89 was the same - rather boring sound wise compared to earlier locos although a little more vocal than class 91.The Eurostar power car noise I also find unappealing (these have AC motors though). For traction motor sound I recommend the DVD `Dover & Out' by Locomaster Profiles which features a Travelling Post Office top & tailed by Class 73 Electro Diesels. Even in Diesel mode the traction motors can be heard.
Superb footage, a very fast run!! :-) I would so love to have a ride up front in one of these.
Which loco was this and what was the service?
its got 93 now lol :)
Cant remember which 91 it was, it was on a Leeds service though. Thanks
Is the light coming out of tunnel as hard on the eyes as it appears to be on the camera?
The best parts are whenever the train goes through a tunnel...
Wish I'd been a train driver.
Is it ok if I use this footage for a film I'm making its about a hijacked train in the UK I will credit you.
afraid i cant tell you, sorry :(
