I loved her audition so much I didn't even care how she did in the finals, I knew she'd go on to make music that I'd buy. She sang Lauryn Hill's Ready or Not and it was totally current and fresh for Idol. If Camile had brought more of that vibe in the later rounds, she could've been a serious contender. Still, the amount of potential shown in that first audition was insane. The only contestant beside's Fantasia who's music I listen to.
One of the most convincing bottom 2 groups in Idol's history, but I would have also sent Camile home instead of Jasmine. Camile actually impressed me, vocals-wise, but her nerves killed any chance of her making it further to the competition. It's a bit sad that her performances deteriorated continuously up to this stage, despite her having a unique hip-hop vibe that was a bit uncommon among finalists during Idol's early seasons.
Nat Famisan yeah vocally she's a little bit better than jasmine because she has a unique and nice tone but the nerves got the best out of her. Liked her back then though. And it is true she has that rnb hip-hop style which is uncommon back then in AI. I just wishes she would have capitalized that uniqueness and style back then. She could have finished higher than 9th.
Atleast top 6 I guess? Who knows. Judges were very unpredictable that year. If she just had that confidence she could have finished better. Besides, there were other favorites that year (three divas) but still her style and vibes were the things I like about her. Such a unique voice.
This was the year that Jennifer Hudson was eliminated before making top 6 even. That showed what a joke the competition was. Simon kept ragging on Jennifer every week until he could influence the callers not to vote for her. She only went on to become a superstar, winning an Oscar for a legendary performance in a movie, (beating out Fantasia for the part of Effie), won A Golden Globe and Grammys. Yep, she was no American Idol, was she? Jenner proved that this show was a sham and who had the chops to make it in the real world. She has proven to be a much bigger star than Fantasia will ever be. The show was a joke, but at least did give some talented kids some exposure and then it was up to them to prove Simon wrong in a world that he didn’t control.
I liked back then the at least gave them a tribute clip and then they sang a song. ABC's version doesn't let them do that which is unfortunate, they announce the results the night of and then that is it.
I remember this as if it was yesterday I was in the king county jail in Seattle on my way back to the Penitentiary and I was in a cell with 20 other men all hardened criminals all the hardest of the hard all going to the joint some for life others for 10-20-30 years we all Killers rapist robbers big-time Dope dealers harden criminals and each and everyone of us knew somebody or knew each other that knew someone amongst us and we watched American Idol whenever it was on and we loved her But we knew that she was out classed but when she sang this song with so much heart and how her voice sounded it was her soul speaking wasn’t a man in that cell without a tear in his eye we all sat there for a few moments and were silent I think sometimes people take a lot for granted it’s just television or is just a show but when you have men that basically have nothing to lose and I’ve seen it all and did it all and you’re on the way to pay for their crimes to look at this beautiful young woman back then and to hear her we knew that when we get out that we can make it if we try hard enough because we saw this beautiful young woman sing her soul with such great conviction to what is a song that is about losing and still moving forward what a great choice the great song of Yellow Brick road I’ll never forget as long as I live and sometimes not making its ok as only those that have gave there best know or those that have gave it but the only reason is someone was better and or someone always has to lose but you got to keep moving forward no matter what even in the eyes of defeat she stood proud and displayed her soul to the world that is what makes it so remarkable someday if she keeps going the way she is they will say this about this moment all the music historians but I got to watch the souls conviction while being there with myself and others that where convicted and seen something that was beautiful and as real as it gets.
these two eventually split the Hawaii vote with bad feedback the night before caused them to land in the bottom two. Jasmine had stronger performances than Camille up till now so it made sense that Camille would go home.
@sboudreaux27 I remember him saying the day before that Elton John was somewhere throwing a TV out a hotel window. I thought that was very disrespectful
@sboudreaux27 She wasn't good enough though. I remember them cutting multiple great performers in the Hawaii audition round only to let some less talented contestants go through. Camille didn't have one performance I would consider great on this show!!! She was always nervous and extremely pitchy!!!
Jasmine only really nailed a performance after this on top 7 night, everything else was either meh or bad. So, a double elimination here, wouldnt make me mad... But between the two, no way Camile should survive. Every single week was hard to watch her battle nerves on stage with zero improvement, actually getting worst. She probably got somehow relieved the stress was over.
She’s doing outstanding! Eli MAC bangin w her reggae tunes❤❤❤ 👌👌👌she’s a Roots Girl!
Love these girls from hawaii
Camile will always hold a special place in my heart. She helped me discover great music. For real, she was and is beyond American Idol.
Eli-Mac look her up

Remember this one. It made me cry 😭😭😭
I always thought it was cool how she slipped the hometown Hawaii reference in there.
I didn't remember Camille was on the same season as my cousin Jasmine Trias! 😮😣 I was like 4 or 5 years old that time.

Bless you brother. Hope you are in a good place these days.
Boom! Look at her now, The Famous ELI MAC!!!! hell yeah! She's awesome, So glad she didnt take Paulas advice on becoming a RnB signer lol
That theme song takes me back
I loved Velascos's voice.
Go check her out she's still making music as Eli-Mac
She’s beautiful. It’s sad to see her go.

she was my fave along with fantasia!
Go look up Eli-Mac
I love both of the young ladies. But I love Eli Mac...Camille is Eli Mac now, backwards of her and her songs are the bomb.
I remember this exact day, April 7 2004 because it's my birthday also. I was sad to see Camile go 😢
@sboudreaux27 I remember him saying the day before that Elton John was somewhere throwing a TV out a hotel window. I thought that was very disrespectful

I love Camille and love her more now, Elli MAC.

what the title of the song???
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John. All the contestants sang Elton John songs that week.
I've watched this episode on tv and anyone of them getting eliminated is just deserving. Both of them gave bad performance that night.
She was ripped off they could've put the notes up for her to sing it her way
Not a good song choice. I agree with Paula!
Yes, kinda cringey.
This is when I knew this show was all about ratings and making a soap opera. Using these Hawaii girls in such a way turned me off.
Saidakine they we're both filipina
Camille was awful
@@callysalayo2871 No shit. Notice I said Hawaii and not Hawaiian.
camille was terrible.
Terrrrible yellow brick road I've heard much better drunk karaoke
Great voice...bad song choices.
