In WW1, the Germans had a good strategy.
They built their defensive lines on dry ground and baited the English to match the German lines with their English troops standing in the mud all Winter.
(The English military is still nuts about footcare because of all the problems this caused.)
The conditions killed more English soldiers than the German guns.
Ukraine should think about where they want the Russians to spend the winter. Donetsk or a cold muddy field near Avdiivka?

@@OKOKOKOKOKOKOK-zn2fyA bit out with your analysis of WW1, yes there was a German strategy to take the higher ground where possible. Part of the problem for the average Tommy on the ground was British Generals did not want their soldiers getting too comfortable in their trenches so they never developed them to the same extent as the German trenches. The British worked on a rotation system whereby a unit generally only spent 5/6 days in a front line trench before moving to other duties whereas the German stayed a lot longer. I don’t think too many British soldiers died of trench foot though it was very debilitating. Ultimately one of the main decisive factor was the presence of the at that time Royal Navy who blockaded Germany thus preventing food getting through to German forces and civilians and tactical advances in warfare such as tanks, creeping barrages , cordinated attacks with adequate support. Hopefully Ukraine and Russia will move to a suitable resolution in the near future.

Anti-tank mines do not miss. In addition, Ukraine has a sufficient amount of “smart” ammunition. They are more expensive, but hit with one shot. And I think you also know about Javelin.

Does anyone ever think that anyone with experience on the Russian side are dead now? Yes the incompetent leaders are still in place but the rank and file soldiers have to be almost all new grunts being sacrificed.
I think you may be right. What we seem to be seeing now, are the "train 'em up for 2 weeks then send 'em" brigade. There are those who seem to feel Russia still has thousands of front line tanks in reserve, along with half a million well trained troops. But would you really sit back for 2 years while your armed forces were being eradicated and ground down, if you had huge reserves? Or would you have used your huge reserves to gain a victory very quickly, earlier in the war, and prevent all the losses in men and military equipment? I rather think if Putin could have pulled off a quick victory way sooner in this war, then he would have done so. Every day this goes on, makes him look weaker. After all, he was the one who claimed this would all be over in 10 days......

I may never had been a paratrooper when I served but my thinking is the key part of being a paratrooper is getting to your objective via parachuting, usually behind enemy lines. Riding in the back of a vehicle is basic mechanized infantry stuff.
Yes, but when the BMP is hit and the paras are on top of it, they fly off needing a parachute to land safely.
both sides have such powerful anti-aircraft defenses that transporting paratroopers by plane is actually death.
Even russian tank crews can earn parachute wings now when their exploding turret sends them 100 ft in the air.
Russian VDV is oly called "paratroopers", actualy they always has been used as heavy infantry. That's because they have at least some training, while actual infantry in russian army has no training at all.
Also to be fair Ukrainian paratroopers are also "para in name only"
I was skeptical of the 300,000 plus Russian casualties, but seeing all the videos Russian equipment destroyed by theses inexpensive drones put this into perspective, this has changed warfare dramatically I sure sure the United States DOD, has notice of this to !!!

By now ,almost any other modern country in the world would have effective anti drone capabilities . Russians haven't evolved at all . These guys would get absolutely slaughtered against a modern equipped military . ( even worse than they are now ) Still using WW2 tactics . Quote Zhukov :- “If we come to a minefield, our infantry attacks exactly as it were not there.”. Now they use tanks and AFV,s.
I recently saw a video of a Ruzzian drone jamming vehicle that apparently was not operating at the time when it was discovered.....by a Ukrainian drone!

We should never have withheld any equipment, systems, aircraft, etc. It should have been supplied promptly as they were able to logistically receive it.

What might the overall cost of tanks etc the Russians have lost compared to the cost of drones that destroy all the vehicles ,that would be interesting ,millions versus peanuts

Most of these soldiers come the distant regions of Russia where they consider themselves lucky if they have a flushing toilet, and if they do have a flushing khazi they feel it their duty, therefore, to sacrfice their worthless lives for Mother Russia.

This war is costing both sides monetarily and in Human lives, but on the latter, Russia has lost several billion USD (equivalent)! With all of the sanctions+ these losses how can Putin still justify the expense? Keep fighting the attrition war Ukraine. At some point Putin must either be deposed or just unable to keep fighting.
Am I the only one that feels bad for the average Russian soldier knowing they were forced into battle, most do not support the war at all and are underfed, very underequipped and basically know their government doesn't care about them at all? I support Ukraine 10 percent but I do still feel bad for the dead.
