- Who can talk about mic stands for almost 30 minutes? I guess I can. Anyway, here is a comparison of the Samson and Gator offerings with some real-world set-ups. Hopefully this will help inform your buying decisions.
Links to buy these mini boom stands from B&H are below. I don't make any money from this but you should try B&H if you haven't. They are a great retailer.

Great video. Very helpful. Both seem to be very good, I will be using 1 of them with a Shure SM57 in front of the amp of an eDrum kit. The purpose is to collaborate with other musicians remotely / live and the app uses mic inputs only.
this was SUPER helpful. no boom arms fit my desks so i was looking at these stands for my mic. thank you!!
Very thorough!
Great video! Thank you
Thanks!
I just ordered the Samsom mic stand and read nothing but great reviews. Though a recently retired drummer due to wrist problems, I intend to use it to mic my acoustic guitar as I sit at my recording desk.
Great review and nice 'Slingy' kit with Ludwig snare?
Thank you very much sir for this review. I have a question, can the Samson be used for toms? Greetings!
These would be too short to mic the top- heads but you could do the bottom - and especially the snare side head.
Thank you very much for this video! One question if i may: do you think the Samson would work just fine in conjuction with the beta52 being placed way more inside the kick drum to get a more pure kick sound, stability and height wise? (Being the center of the kick port at 9,8 inches) Or is it too tall maybe?
Than you very much in advance!
Thanks for watching and commenting! If you want to go deep with the mic I think both of these stands would present problems as you suggest. The Samson really wouldn't work at all unless you rotate the port up to about the 3 o'clock position but if its in the center it would probably work fine. I hardly ever mic a kick that way anymore but it is a very common placement for a D112. B52s I think are best right at the boundary or a little outside with the port on the outer edge. You should compare the two positions and see what you think. You can always add a 57 from the beater side, flip phase, and add that in to get the aggressive attack that burying the mic will give you. Try it out.
@@ampsmith1885 You have helped me a lot with all this data. Thank you very very much! I will definitely try the 57 from the beater side trick! Best regards and best of lucks with the channel! Cheers!!
