Would it have been better if I had died as an infant? Would that have been more humane than having to live the life I had to live? Many of these people's lives are so bad, these are the questions they ask themselves every day. That is why little gets done to resolve problems. Perhaps it would serve them well to enact some sort of Universal Basic Income so that they could focus on better question that serve all of us.

    • @audiobookfull8

@@chris6246 doing things for money is what our society is about. So we must recognize that. Detaching right and wrong from monetary gain should be our first objective. We are going down a dangerous path. How can we reduce "misinfo"? We must reduce government while building trust. This will allow us to decouple money from right and wrong. It is time for out-side-the-box thinking. If we enact Universal Basic Income, people will be less likely to feel the need to view things any other way than what they want -- not through the money they need. Who is to say what is right or what is wrong when you live in a society that is so backward? We need to change the way people are incentivized.

I don’t expect it to change much of how I feel in terms of finally finding some meaning or anything like that - I’m probably too far gone for that heh - but maybe I can help some people while I’m still here and they’ll find the meaning I couldn’t.

Emma's story really touched me--she could be my sister, I could be sitting with her in the hospital for 5 months, hoping she recovers. I love this little corner of the Internet: Nerdfighters are truly good people, and there's nothing we can't accomplish together. Few other people would raise $25 million for a health center and then say "We can do more. What else can we do?" It doesn’t matter what bad things are happening either in the world at large or in my own little life I can always rely on nerdfighteria to keep chugging along doing amazing things and supporting eachother, I’ve been somewhat a part of this community, sadly more watching than really getting to know any of you amazing people, for over half my life now and I truly am so grateful to you all. You’ve kept me going, kept me sane and honestly at times kept me around, and all the while you’ve been finding ways to do the same for so many people all around the world! The maternal centre of excellence is the strongest and most amazing example I’ve seen of what a bunch of normal people can do when they get together and decide to care in a world that often makes caring exhausting! Sorry if I’m not making great sense, but just wow, you all amaze and inspire me.

Thank you for emphasizing that every cent or even bringing attention to the cause helps. Last fall I thought about canceling my awesome socks subscription and donating the $1200 straight to PiH, but the socks bring so much joy to my family that it was a really tough decision for me. So thanks for making even small time donors feel like we can change the world!

What breaks my heart in the best way is that you guys did this with grit and determination and also with just the complete willingness to be your authentic and genuine emotional selves to an audience for 15 years. Thank you for the commitments you have made to this planet and to humanity.
I'm crying because of just all of it, but also because this year my income finally increased to a level where I can contribute to these projects like I always wanted to in 2007, I just subscribed to the awesome socks protect last month and will be making my P4A donation this month.
You did it. You actually decreased world suck. By like, a lot. Great job, truly.

Just like Emma, my exgirlfriend became a nurse because of a serious accident when she was 9 years old (she spent almost a year in a hospital). She had a completely different value ranking compared to mine when we met, it really made me think and adjust what I value in life. I'm very proud of what you achieved here and will certainly become a donor!

Listening to this, I was thinking about how incredibly proud John's parents must be of him, and then I realised that one day, I'll be that proud of my son for something he does. He's three now, and I am bursting with pride at every new phrase he learns and every new skill he picks up, but this made me realise that one day I'll be proud not of what he's learning for himself, but for what he's doing for other people, and now I'm crying.

6 years ago I became too disabled to work consistently enough to hold a job. But boredom was a real problem. I turned to CZcams for entertainment. It wasn't until COVID that the algorithm finally tossed me SciShow and then vlogbrothers. This is the first I've heard of your families efforts to assist Sierra Leone. Bravo. Now if you could go all activist and make that happen in poverty stricken urban and rural America, your ideas would be most welcome. In the meantime, you are brilliant and kind people, and thank you for helping those in the most need.
