    This one's really cool once you get it down. The break really let's you be a part of the band and add your own touch.

    By far the best tuition format I’ve seen on CZcams, so thoughtful to show the transition to each chord and show what chord is next!

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  Před 3 lety +5

      Thanks...I don't actually consider it a "tuition" format, as it really wasn't intended to help people learn a song--it's a way to play along with a song, practice chord changes, and to have fun. The main goal was for classroom instruction, where music can feel irrelevant or out-of-date to students, so these are a way to make music more accessible and "current" for our students.
      However...I know quite a few people have gone on to use these resources to learn a song by heart and then perform it.

    It would be really helpful if there was some indication of how long each chord was held, a suggested strum pattern, etc.

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  Před 4 lety +10

      It changes all the time. The chord "box" fades right before you change, and the other thing is that you are building your skills and listening. I now make 3 types of play alongs...ukulele, baritone, and even a "Lyric based" which shows the chords over lyrics...which looks like a traditional chord chart that you can download from any one of the ukulele groups (e.g. Petey Mack's wonderful collection).
      That format doesn't show music over time, either. You need to know the music and listen with your ears.
      If I could legally publish a lead sheet, showing traditional music notation--but that is something copyright holders absolutely will not tolerate.
      They tolerate the play alongs because they get revenue from them, as if they were their own posted music, with no additional charge to them to make it a play along...in other words, free money. (We get nothing for making the play alongs). Oh...CZcams takes its share, too.

      One of my friends, Ukulaliens has made a play along of this song. When someone else makes a Play Along, I generally don’t remake it unless there is something I specifically need to do (e.g. I need color chord shapes for my students). If you're talking at 01:56, not in this recording. Can it fit away from the recording? Sure. But I work very, very hard (for free) to try to make sure that my chords match the original songs. Are there mistakes? Sure. But they're rare. I put that Ph.D. in music to good use! 😂

      There are many options, and no one right answer. How good are you at strumming and picking? Please respond in a whole new reply…CZcams doesn’t make it easy to respond to comments to comments (nested comments) and those comments can get lost in the process.

      I do all kinds of songs. Have you seen the (free) lists at ukeplayalongs.com (I haven't updated this recently) or the different index at ukeability.org? We've got songs with over 20 chords ("We" being the various people that make these play alongs).
      I'd also ask--in a non-snarky way--have you noticed there are over 500 videos here on the channel? The videos were all intended for classroom use (originally), but all kinds of levels and styles are represented.
      There has been one person I know (other than myself) who has played through them ALL!
